Opis:
In order to approximate discrete-event systems in which there exist considerable states and events, David and Alla define a continuous Petri net (CPN). So far, CPNs have been a useful tool not only for approximating discrete-event systems but also for modelling continuous processes. Due to different ways of calculating instantaneous firing speeds of transitions, various continuous Petri net models, such as the CCPN (constant speed CPN), VCPN (variable speed CPN) and the ACPN (asymptotic CPN), have been proposed, where the continuous flow is specified uniquely by maximal firing speeds. However, in applications such as chemical processes there exist situations where the continuous flow must be above some minimal speed or in the range of minimal and maximal speeds. In this paper, from the point of view of approximating a time Petri net, the CPN is augmented with maximal and minimal firing speeds, and a novel continuous model, i.e., the Interval speed CPN (ICPN) is defined. The enabling and firing semantics of transitions of the ICPN are discussed, and the facilitating of continuous transitions is classified into three levels: 0-level, 1-level and 2-level. Some policies to resolve the conflicts and algorithms to undertake the behavioural analysis for the ICPN are developed. In addition, a chemical process example is presented.

Opis:
The effective scheduling of operations in batch plants has a great potential for high economic returns, in which the formulation and an optimal solution algorithm are the main issues of study. Petri nets have proven to be a promising technique for solving many difficult problems associated with the modelling, formal analysis, design and coordination control of discrete-event systems. One of the major advantages of using a Petri-net model is that the same model can be used for the analysis of behavioural properties and performance evaluation, as well as for the systematic construction of discrete-event simulators and controllers. This paper aims at presenting a Petri-net based approach to the scheduling of operations in batch plants. Firstly, the short term of the `scheduling of batch plants' is formulated by means of a timed Petri net which can accommodate various intermediate storage policies, such as unlimited intermediate storage (UIS), no intermediate storage (NIS), finite intermediate storage (FIS), and mixed intermediate storage (MIS). Secondly, a heuristic search algorithm for the optimal scheduling of batch plants is given, which is based on generating and checking the markings in the reachability tree of the Petri-net model. Finally, the novel formulation and algorithm are tested with several simulation case studies.

Opis:
The photodecomposition mechanisms of energetic materials vary with molecular structure, photodissociation wavelength, the phase of the material, experimental pressure and temperature etc. In this paper, the significant progress on photodecomposition studies of some important energetic materials achieved in recent years is introduced in detail, including nitromethane, DMNA (dimethylnitramine), TATB (1,3,5-triamino-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene), RDX (hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine), HMX (1,3,5,7-tetranitro-1,3,5,7- tetrazacycloctane) and CL-20 (2,4,6,8,10,12-hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane). The difficulties and prospects of photodecomposition research of energetic materials are also indicated.

Opis:
We report the study of a huge optical intraday flare on 2021 November 12 at 2 a.m. UT in the blazar OJ 287. In the binary black hole model, it is associated with an impact of the secondary black hole on the accretion disk of the primary. Our multifrequency observing campaign was set up to search for such a signature of the impact based on a prediction made 8 yr earlier. The first I-band results of the flare have already been reported by Kishore et al. (2024). Here we combine these data with our monitoring in the R-band. There is a big change in the R–I spectral index by 1.0 ± 0.1 between the normal background and the flare, suggesting a new component of radiation. The polarization variation during the rise of the flare suggests the same. The limits on the source size place it most reasonably in the jet of the secondary BH. We then ask why we have not seen this phenomenon before. We show that OJ 287 was never before observed with sufficient sensitivity on the night when the flare should have happened according to the binary model. We also study the probability that this flare is just an oversized example of intraday variability using the Krakow data set of intense monitoring between 2015 and 2023. We find that the occurrence of a flare of this size and rapidity is unlikely. In machine-readable Tables 1 and 2, we give the full orbit-linked historical light curve of OJ 287 as well as the dense monitoring sample of Krakow.
