Opis:
Purpose: The study aims to investigate the effects of thermomechanical treatment, including tempering and hot–rolling, on the microstructure and mechanical properties of ferrite–martensite dual phase steel. Design/methodology/approach: The initial steel billet was a hypoeutectoid steel, which was annealed at 1000ºC, then hot–rolled at 920ºC, followed by austenitisation at various temperatures (730, 770, 800, and 830ºC), and finally quenched to obtain ferrite–martensite dual phase steel. X-ray diffractometer and optical microscopy investigated the microstructure and grain size of the dual-phase steel. Mechanical properties such as hardness, elongation, and tensile strength were also examined. Findings: The grain size decreased with increasing elongation percentage and remained constant after an elongation of 30%. The martensite/ferrite phase ratio increased with higher tempering temperatures. The hardness, elongation, and tensile strength reached a maximum when the tempering temperature was 800ºC. Research limitations/implications: Future studies could consider the effect of hot–rolling temperature or cold-rolling. Practical implications: The study proposes a straightforward and efficient thermomechanical treatment process to transform hypereutectoid steel into ferrite-martensite dual-phase dual- phase steel with improved mechanical properties. Originality/value: The study reveals the contributions of grain size and the martensite/ferrite ratio to the mechanical properties of ferrite–martensite dual steel through thermomechanical treatment.

Opis:
Purpose: Weed interference is a constraint in agricultural practice. The crop-weed interaction has been extensively described in literature, but the weed-weed interaction and their potential usage in crop production have not much been understood. In this paper, the interactions of allelochemicals of the weeds which cause troublesome in crop production and ecosystem against weeds, crops, and pathogens are described. Principal results: Weed allelochemicals are classified into many chemical classes, and the majority is consisting of phenolics acids, alkaloids, terpenes, flavonoids, long chain fatty acids, lactones, and other volatile compounds. Type of weed allelochemicals and their doses are varied among weed species. Some allelochemicals such as catechin (+/-) have been reported to be responsible for weed invasiveness. Some crops exude germination stimulants to parasitic weeds such as Striga spp. and Orobanche spp. In contrast to their negative impacts on crop production, many weeds can be exploited as promising sources to control harmful insects, fungi, bacteria, and weeds. For instance, Ageratum conyzoides is a destructive weed in crop production, but it exerted excellent insecticidal, antifungal, and herbicidal capacity and promoted citrus productivity in A. conyzoides intercropped citrus orchards. Major conclusions: In general, weeds compete with crops by chemical pathway by releasing plant growth inhibitors to reduce crop growth. Weed allelochemicals may be successfully exploited for pest and weed controls in an integrated sustainable crop production. Some weed allelochemicals are potent for development of natural pesticides.

Opis:
Clarifying the genetic background of the drought-tolerance trait is a crucial task that may help to improve plant performance under stress by a genetic engineering approach. dehydration-responsive element-binding protein (dREB) is a transcription factor family which modulates many stress-responsive genes. In this study, we isolated a DrEB homolog gene named ZmDrEBtv from Zea mays var. Tevang-1. Using bioinformatic tools, a number of Indels and SNPs in ZmDrEBtv sequence different from the reference accession were identified. In addition, based on deduced protein sequence similarity, ZmdREBtv was assigned to transcription factor dREB2 class as featured by a conserved dNa binding domain – aP2. The ZmDrEBtv construct under thecontrol of the rd29a promoter was transformed into a drought-sensitive maize plant, K7 line. The transgenic plants were assessed with reference to molecular and phenotypic characteristics related to the drought-tolenrance trait. The results proved that the maize plants carrying ZmDrEBtv gene showed enhanced tolerance and better performance to the water-deficit environment at different stages, compared to the wild-type plants.

Opis:
Kerr magnetometry was employed to study the temperature dependence of magnetization and magnetic hysteresis loops in ferromagnetic EuS-PbS semiconductor multilayers in the temperature range T=3-35 K at low magnetic fields H≤150 Oe. For EuS-PbS/KCl(100) structures with ultrathin non-magnetic PbS spacer of 1~nm, we observed a maximum on the temperature dependence of magnetization at low fields H≤30 Oe. For higher fields, we found for these structures a regular mean-field-like increase in magnetization with decreasing temperature. The same regular behavior was also found for EuS-PbS/KCl structures with thicker PbS spacer, as well as for all EuS-PbS/BaF$\text{}_{2}$(111) multilayers independently of spacer thickness. For qualitative interpretation of these findings, we consider two magnetic contributions to the total energy of EuS-PbS multilayers: the Zeeman energy and the antiferromagnetic interlayer exchange coupling between ferromagnetic EuS layers via diamagnetic PbS spacer.

Opis:
We have developed a new and unique experimental setup integrating the central part of the Wide Angle Shower Apparatus (WASA) into the Fragment Separator (FRS) at GSI. This combination opens up possibilities of new experiments with high-resolution spectroscopy at forward and measurements of light decay particles with nearly full solid-angle acceptance in coincidence. The first series of the WASA-FRS experiments have been successfully carried out in 2022. The developed experimental setup and two physics experiments performed in 2022 including the status of the preliminary data analysis are introduced.
