Opis:
Efficient coupling of micro/nano-optical waveguides with single-mode fibers is the premise for the efficient operation of the integrated photonic chip, which directly determines its optical performance. In this paper, the design principles of periodically segmented waveguide (PSW) structure used for high-efficiency fiber-chip coupling are proposed, and the effects of refractive index difference Δ on coupling efficiency and structural parameters are studied by simulation. It is found that as the Δ of the PSW increases, the period of the PSW tends to be smaller, and the coupling efficiency decreases continuously, reduced by around 0.673 dB in the range of Δ = 3% to Δ = 7%. Through the analysis of PSW optical mechanisms, it demonstrates that the main reason for the decrease of coupling efficiency is that the transmission loss of the tapered section increases sharply with the increase of Δ. High-Δ PSW is difficult to apply to highly integrated silica optical chips due to the unignorably insertion loss.

Dalitz plots as a tool to resolve nonsequential paths in strong-field triple ionization

Opis:
Strong-field triple ionization of atoms is studied by performing classical-trajectory Monte Carlo simulations. The momentum distributions of three electrons are visualized via Dalitz plots, exhibiting clear electronic correlations. Separated traces of various nonsequential paths are identified in these ternary spectra, including channels with multiple recollisions. It is proposed that Dalitz plots can be used as a valuable tool to study correlated electron dynamics in strong fields, in particular, as a method to retrieve from experimental data relative roles of various channels of nonsequential ionization such as direct ionization, recollision-induced excitation with subsequent ionization, or a multirecollison.

Opis:
The Lagrange test was conducted to investigate the shock ignition and growth of HMX-based polymer bonded explosives (PBXs) under different temperature conditions. In this study, three temperature conditions, 25 °C, 80 °C and 120 °C were used. The pressure history values along the direction of the detonation wave propagation were obtained and presented as the characteristics of the shock ignition and growth. Manganin piezoresistive pressure gauges were used to measure the pressure. The results showed that the distance to detonation was clearly reduced as the temperature was increased. A distance greater than 9 mm at 25 °C was changed to less than 3 mm at 120 °C. In order to understand this phenomenon in more detail, the Lee-Tarver ignition and growth model was employed to simulate the Lagrange test, and the simulated pressures were compared with the measured pressures. The results demonstrated that the intrinsic mechanism of the phenomenon was that the high temperature changed both the equation of state of the unreacted explosive and the chemical reaction rate. It was remarkable that the parameter R2 in the model was reduced from −0.05835 to −0.06338, and the parameter G1 in the model was increased from 1.3 to 2.12.

Opis:
In the paper we present an implementation of resonance coupling between a unidirectional air waveguide and two cavities with one-way rotating state in a two-dimensional dielectric photonic crystal and a magneto-optical photonic crystal. We theoretically calculate the dispersion curves of the line defect waveguide and the dispersion curves of waveguide-cavity interaction, respectively. Numerical simulations show that, via waveguide-cavity coupling, a series of interesting resonance phenomena can be generated in the system. By modifying direction of the applied external magnetic field, storing and discharging of photonic energy can be realized. Our work may provide a practical and useful guidance for optical communications.

Opis:
Three-dimensional (3D) locally resonant phononic crystals (LRPCs) are studied with the aim of optimising the sub-wavelength band gaps of such composites. By analysing their effective acoustic properties, it has been found that the effective acoustic speed of the composite will drop to zero when local resonance arise, and will increase monotonically when Bragg scattering effects occur. Moreover, if the matrix is a low-shear-speed medium, local resonators can significantly reduce the effective acoustic speed of the composite and, therefore, lower the frequency where Bragg scattering effects occur. Hence, a specific LRPC with alternating elastic and fluid matrices is proposed, whose resonance and Bragg gaps are already close in frequency. The fluid matrix behaves as a wave filter, which prevents the shear waves from propagating in the composite. By using the layer-multiple-scattering theory, the coupling behaviour of local resonance and Bragg scattering band gaps has been investigated. Both gaps are enhanced when they move closer to each other. Finally, a gap-coupled case is obtained that displays a broad sub-wavelength band gap. Such proposal excels at the application of underwater acoustic materials since the arrangement of structure can be handily adjusted for tuning the frequency of coupled gap.

Opis:
The electrostatic hazards of nitramine explosives (RDX, HMX) were assessed in this paper. The resistivities of different particle-size RDX and HMX were tested by a device designed and manufactured according to the standard ISO/IEC 80079-20-2:2016. This work shows that the resistivities of uncompacted RDX and HMX increase as the particle size decreases. Charging characteristics test experiments were also carried out using a so-called sieve method. Using this method, the influence of aperture size on charge accumulation of RDX was studied, and the characteristics of electrostatic accumulation of different particle-size RDX and HMX sieved with 50 mesh standard sieve were compared. The results show that the absolute value of the charge accumulation increases as the mesh number increases (i.e. the aperture size decreases), and increases as the particle size is decreased, indicating that nano-sized RDX and nano-sized HMX accumulate static electricity more easily than conventional micron-sized ones. Finally, the electrostatic discharge (ESD) sensitivity of nano-sized RDX and nano-sized HMX was investigated. Nano-sized nitramine explosives were found to have a higher ESD sensitivity than micron-sized ones.

Opis:
We propose and numerically investigate a directional coupler which consists of two dielectric loaded InSb based terahertz (THz) plasmonic waveguides. Owing to the permittivitly tunable property of InSb, the coupling strength between the two dielectric loaded plasmonic waveguides is affected by temperature, so the maximum power coupled from the input waveguide to the cross-waveguide and the correspondingly coupling length could be effectively tailored by altering temperature. Under different temperatures, this directional coupler could act as a thermally controlled terahertz wave switch or a 3-dB terahertz splitter around the frequency of 1.17 THz. This ultracompact and thermally controlled plasmonic directional coupler may find potential important applications in the highly integrated photonic circuits for terahertz system and technologies.

Opis:
Green cars and electronic products consume lots of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), and massive spent LIBs are yielded due to performance degradation. This paper provides an economical and environmentally friendly approach to recover valuable metals from cathode materials of the spent LIBs. It combines the in-situ thermal reduction (self-reduction by polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and residual electrolyte in cathode material) and sulfuric acid leaching. Elements of high valent are reduced by the binder (PVDF) and the residual electrolyte on the surface of $NCM(LiNi_xCo_yMn_{1-x-y}O_2)$ material at high temperatures. Moreover, the changes in substance type, element valency, and contents of cathode materials reduced with various terminal temperatures and retention time are analyzed by Xray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Results show that the optimal terminal temperature for in-situ thermal reduction is 600 °C, and the optimum retention time is 120 min. Under the best in-situ thermal reduction conditions, the results from XRD confirm that part of $Ni^{2+}$ is converted to simple substance $Ni$, $Co^{3+}$ is reduced to $Co$, and $Mn^{4+}$ is reduced to $Mn^{2+}$ and elemental $Mn$, which are confirmed by XRD. Analyzed results by XPS indicate that the content of $Ni^{2+}$ decreases to 67.05%, and $Co^{3+}$ is completely reduced to $Co$. $Mn^{4+}$ is reduced to 91.41% of $Mn^{2+}$ and 8.59% of simple substance $Mn$. In-situ thermal reduction benefits the leaching processes of cathode materials. The leaching efficiencies of $Ni$, $Co$, and $Mn$ increase from 53.39%, 51.95%, and 0.71% to 99.04%, 96.98%, and 97.52%, respectively.
