Opis:
Experiments were performed in an interdigital micromixer with 30 microchannels (40 μm width of each channel) to separate In3+, Fe3+ and Zn2+ from sulfate solutions using Di-(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid (D2EHPA) as the extractant. The effects of pH, extractant concentration and flow rate on the extraction efficiency and flow rate on mass transfer coefficient of In3+, Fe3+ and Zn2+ were investigated. At a phase flow rate of 7.0 mL/min and initial solution pH of 0.423, the extraction efficiency of In3+, Fe3+ and Zn2+ was 99.29%, 3.43% and 2.54%, respectively and mass transfer coefficient of In3+, Fe3+ and Zn2+ was 144.307 s-1,1.018 s-1 and 0.750 s-1. Then, the loaded organic phase was stripped in an interdigital micromixer. At a phase flow rate of 9.0 mL/min and HCl concentration of 160 g/L, stripping efficiency of In3+ was 98.92% and mass transfer coefficient of In3+ was 169.808 s-1, while concentration of Fe3+ and Zn2+ was lower than 0.005 g/L with good separation of In3+ from Fe3+ and Zn2+.

Opis:
We examined optimal cyclic uniaxial stretches for stem cell-to-tenocyte differentiation by applying a wide range of cyclic mechanical stimuli. Human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (hBMSCs) were subjected to three types of cyclic elongation of 5%, 10%, or 15% at a cyclic frequency of 1 Hz for 24 h or 48 h, and differentiation into tenocytes was assessed by two methods: real-time polymerase chain reaction determination of gene expression levels and western blotting analysis of protein expression levels. The gene expression levels of the differentiation markers type I collagen (Col I), type III collagen (Col III), tenascin-C (Tnc), and scleraxis (Scx), all of which are constituents of tendon tissue, were increased when cells were exposed to 10% stretching stimulation. The levels of Col I and Tnc protein synthesis levels were also higher in the cells with 10% stretching stimulation than in those subjected to other stimuli. The results indicated that 10% stretching stimulus was efficient to induce the differentiation of hBMSCs into tenocytes. In addition, the changes in gene and protein expression levels were strongly correlated with cell orientation angle. The results presented here suggest that mesenchymal stem cell-to-tenocyte differentiation is strongly associated with cumulative elongation load on the cells. This work provides novel insights into the differentiation of tenogenesis in a strain-induced environment and supports the therapeutic potential of hBMSCs.

Opis:
A well-known effect of amines, and also of water, on detonation characteristics of nitromethane (NM) is discussed from the point of view of the published knowledge about the study of initiation reactivity of this nitro paraffin. It is documented that bimolecular and higher interactions during the initiation of NM are impossible. The most widespread concepts of the primary steps of this initiation, i.e. formation of aci-NM anion [CH2=NO2]— by intermolecular hydrogen transfer in the neat NM submitted to shock and formation of this anion by action of an amine, have been scrutinized by the DFT B3LYP/cc-pVTZ+ method and evaluated as thermodynamically disadvantageous. Also the 1,3-intramolecular hydrogen shift in the NM molecule was characterized as a higher-barrier process. Two favorable primary mechanisms of fission in the NM initiation and development of its detonation were investigated by DFT B3LYP/cc-pVTZ+ calculations: homolysis of C–NO2 bond in the neat NM and homolysis of N–OH bond in its aci-form. The second mentioned pathway was found to be thermodynamically the most preferable mechanism of fission. Consequently, a detonation wave of NM with admixture of amine or water has a considerably reduced reaction zone length in comparison with the detonation of neat NM. The B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) calculations of transition states revealed that an admixture of methylamine and/or water influences the conversion of nitromethane to its aci-form, and this effect is more feasible in the case of methylamine rather than water.

Opis:
We provide an overview of the status of Monte-Carlo event generators for high-energy particle physics. Guided by the experimental needs and requirements, we highlight areas of active development, and opportunities for future improvements. Particular emphasis is given to physics models and algorithms that are employed across a variety of experiments. These common themes in event generator development lead to a more comprehensive understanding of physics at the highest energies and intensities, and allow models to be tested against a wealth of data that have been accumulated over the past decades. A cohesive approach to event generator development will allow these models to be further improved and systematic uncertainties to be reduced, directly contributing to future experimental success. Event generators are part of a much larger ecosystem of computational tools. They typically involve a number of unknown model parameters that must be tuned to experimental data, while maintaining the integrity of the underlying physics models. Making both these data, and the analyses with which they have been obtained accessible to future users is an essential aspect of open science and data preservation. It ensures the consistency of physics models across a variety of experiments.
