Opis:
This study investigates several factors that have not been specified in the standard for dynamic stiffness, compressibility, and long-term deformation; these factors can be used to evaluate the acoustic and physical performances of resilient materials. The study is intended to provide basic data for deriving the factors that need to be additionally reviewed through the standards. Since magnitude of dynamic stiffness changes with an increase in loading time, it is necessary to examine the setting of the loading time for a load plate under test conditions. Samples of size 300×300 mm, rather than 200×200 mm, yielded more reliable results for compressibility measurement. Since the test to infer long-term deformation of resilient materials after a period of 10 years in some samples showed variation characteristics different from those specified in the standards, it is recommended that the test method should be reviewed through ongoing research.

Opis:
Context. The sizes of many asteroids, especially slowly rotating, low-amplitude targets, remain poorly constrained due to selection effects. These biases limit the availability of high-quality data, leaving size estimates reliant on spherical shape assumptions. Such approximations introduce significant uncertainties propagating, for example, into density determinations or thermophysical and compositional studies, affecting our understanding of asteroid properties. Aims. This work targets poorly studied main-belt asteroids, for most of which no shape models were previously available. Using only high-quality, dense light curves, thermal infrared observations (systematically including WISE data), and stellar occultations, we aimed to produce reliable shape models and scale them using two independent techniques, allowing for size comparison at the end. We conducted two observing campaigns to achieve this: one to obtain dense photometric light curves and another to acquire multi-chord stellar occultations by these objects. Methods. Shape and spin models were reconstructed using light curve inversion techniques. Sizes were determined via two methods: (1) advanced thermophysical modelling using the convex inversion thermophysical model (CITPM), which optimises spin and shape models to light curve data in the visible range together with infrared data, and (2) scaling the shape models with stellar occultations. Results. We obtained precise sizes and shape models for 15 asteroids. CITPM and occultation-derived sizes agree within 5% for most cases, demonstrating the reliability of the modelling approach. Larger discrepancies are usually linked to incomplete occultation chord coverage. The study also provides insights into surface properties, including albedo, surface roughness and thermal inertia. Conclusions. The use of high-quality data, coupled with an advanced TPM that uses both thermal and visible data while allowing the shape model to be adjusted according to both types of data, enabled us to determine sizes with precision comparable to those derived from multichord stellar occultations. We resolved substantial inconsistencies in previous size determinations for target asteroids, providing good input for future studies on asteroid densities and surface properties.

Opis:
In this study, copper nanoparticles and nanofluids were synthesized by electrical explosion of wire (EEW) in liquid media such as water, ethanol, and acetone. The effect of the different conditions on the properties of the as-synthesized Cu powders and nanofluids were investigated. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis was employed to measure the phase of the as-synthesized powder. Only pure Cu phase appeared in case of acetone condition, but CuO and CuO2 phases could be observed in the others. The EEWed particle size was broadened from under 50 to 100 nm. The results showed that acetone was the best condition for achieving smaller particles, preventing the oxidation of the Cu particles and good stability of the nanofluids.

Opis:
This article is devoted to examining the relevance of ecophilosophy for sustainable development, especially in the modern East Asian context. It is framed as a response to environmental historian Mark Elvin’s claim thatallegedly ecofriendly philosophical and spiritual traditions like Daoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism had noeffect in preventing environmental degradation in the long history of preindustrial China, and also that given thishistorical precedent, ecophilosophy – or any type of ideology as such – is likely to have no relevance in the efforts toward sustainable development now under way worldwide. The article argues the necessity of examining Asian countries that are farther along in industrialization than China, and which have witnessed the emergence of powerful ecophilosophy-based movements as a reaction to industrialization and its unfortunate side-effects. In particular, the article focuses on the remarkable case of the Hansalim movement in South Korea, which has represented arguably the most comprehensive attempt yet at formulating an ecophilosophy based on the East Asian traditions which is relevant and practical for today’s world. While Hansalim’s achievements as the operator of the world’s largest community-based organic food cooperative have recently begun to gain recognition abroad, this article focuses on the ecophilosophy underlying the movement – for which food has been but a symbol – and analyzes it to be rich in implications, especially concerning the social pillar of sustainable development, localism, and the role of ecophilosophy.

Opis:
Continuous efforts to construct high-speed and lightweight ship have been made to reduce cost against growing oil prices. In this context, aluminum has received attention as an alternative material for steel, for small and medium-sized ships. In an effort to extend service life of aluminum, various researches have been attempting to improve the corrosion resistance and anti-corrosion characteristics by applying heat treatment and alloying. The material, however, has a high probability of being attacked by corrosion and erosion, caused by high ship speed in severe marine environments. Cavitation damage is dependent on several important factors, such as shape of objects, surface roughness, rotation speed, fluid pressure and velocity. Vapor pressure, density and surface tension of fluid are also taken into account. In this study, an electrochemical cavitation erosion-corrosion experiment was conducted as a function of solution temperature and applied amplitude for 5083-O aluminum alloy used commercially as a hull material for a small sized ship. The result of the experiment revealed that the damage was accelerated due to synergistic effect of corrosion and erosion as the solution temperature was elevated, and that the weight loss showed a steady increase with increasing time of cavitation.

Opis:
The influence of InAs coverage on the formation of self-assembled quantum dots grown by molecular-beam epitaxy was investigated by atomic force microscopy and photoluminescence measurements. As the InAs coverage increased from 2.0 to 3.0 monolayers, the quantum dot density decreased from 1.1 × $10^{11}$ to 1.36 × $10^{10} cm^{-2}$. This result could be attributed to the coalescence of neighboring small InAs quantum dots resulting in the formation of much larger InAs quantum dots with lower quantum dot density. Atomic force microscopy results revealed that as the InAs quantum dot coverage increased, the transition of size distribution of InAs quantum dots from single-modal to multimodal occurred. The temperature-dependent photoluminescence spectra showed that the photoluminescence spectra red shifted and the photoluminescence peak intensity decreased as the InAs coverage increased. The thermal activation energy was strongly dependent on the InAs coverage, and for InAs quantum dots with 3.0 ML thick InAs coverage, this energy was estimated to be 147 meV.

Opis:
Multi-stacked InAs QDs embedded in ten periods of GaAs/$In_{0.1}Ga_{0.9}As$ strained layers were grown by MBE and their optical properties were investigated by using PL spectroscopy. For the QDs embedded in ten periods of GaAs/$In_{0.1}Ga_{0.9}As$ strained layers, the PL intensity is enhanced about 4.7 times and a narrower FWHM of 26 meV is observed compared to those of the conventional multi-stacked QDs. The PL spectra of the InAs QDs show blue-shifts of about 50 meV with increasing annealing temperature up to 850°C. At annealing temperature of 600°C, the FWHM of the PL peak is reduced to 16 meV and PL intensity is enhanced compared to those of the as-grown sample, which indicates improvement of size uniformity and crystal quality of the QDs.

Opis:
This study reports the production of magnesium oxide (MgO) whiskers on silicon (Si) substrates by the thermal heating of $MgB_2$ powders. We investigated the structural properties of the as-synthesized whiskers by using X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, selected area electron diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy. The product consisted of one-dimensional whiskers with a square cross-section. The whiskers had a single-crystalline cubic structure of MgO. The photoluminescence measurement with the Gaussian fitting exhibited visible light emission bands centered at 2.39 eV and 2.91 eV. We proposed the growth of MgO whiskers to follow the vapor-solid mechanism.
