Opis:
Conductive polymeric membranes based on poly(siloxane-urethane)s (PSUR) and designed for potential application as separators in Li-ion batteries were obtained through consecutive heat and UV curing of compositions containing NCO-terminated PSUR prepolymers with both polysiloxane (SIL) and poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) segments in the polymer chain and unsaturated diols as chain extenders. Lithium salts in the form of solutions in ethylene carbonate/dimethyl carbonate (EC/DMC) mixture were incorporated into PSUR after curing (“post-cure” method) or (in some experiments only) also before curing (in situ method). The effect of polymer structural parameters (PEO segments content, NCO/OH ratio) as well as curing conditions and method of lithium salt incorporation on mechanical and thermal properties, swelling ability and specific conductivity of the corresponding membranes were investigated. Supramolecular structure of membranes was studied using scanning electron microscopy with X-ray analysis (SEM/EDS) technique. The selected membranes were tested as potential separators in lithium batteries.

An analytical model of ELF radiowave propagation in ground-ionosphere waveguides with a multilayered ground

Opis:
A planetary crust with a low electric conductivity has a strong influence on extremely low frequency (ELF) radiowave propagation in the ground-ionosphere waveguide due to the penetration of the ground by the wave's electromagnetic field. The amount of influence it has depends on the actual structure of the ground. Accurate models of radiowave propagation in the ELF range are essential in the study of atmospheric discharges and remote sensing applications. Analytical models are still of primary interest when trying to find inverse solutions and when dealing with large objects such as spherical waveguides that consists of a planetary ground and ionosphere. In this paper, we analyze the influence of a multilayered finite conductivity ground on the propagation of ELF electromagnetic waves in the ground-ionosphere waveguide. We have developed equations that enable us to include different ground models in propagation equations using the concept of complex altitudes, and applied them to the study of ELF electromagnetic field pulses on Mars. This study shows that the structure of the ground and its electrical conductivity has a strong influence on the observed waveforms. Therefore, ELF pulses can serve as a tool for probing planetary grounds. The presented model can also be used to study Schumann resonances.

Analytical modeling of Schumann resonance and ELF propagation parameters on Mars with a multi-layered ground

Opis:
Two electrically conductive planetary spheres, the ionosphere and the ground, form a spherical waveguide. Within such a planetary cavity a phenomenon called Schumann resonance (SR) can occur. It is a resonance of extremely low frequency (ELF) electromagnetic waves. The resonance parameters are strongly related to the electromagnetic properties of the cavity. On Mars, as there is no liquid water at the planetary surface, the ground has a low conductivity. In such a situation, ELF waves penetrate into the planetary subsurface up to many kilometers depth. To examine the influence of low-conductivity grounds on ELF propagation, we have introduced a recently developed analytical method, which enables to estimate the propagation parameters and explicate their dependence of the ground properties. Since the presented model is fully analytical, it is computationally efficient and can be very useful in finding inverse solutions. To demonstrate the potential of the method, we present the relationship between individual ground properties and the parameters of Schumann resonance. The obtained results indicate that Martian exploration performed by one ELF station located at the planetary surface can reveal, along with the properties of the ionosphere, the existence of liquid water under the Martian surface.

Opis:
Introduction: Invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC) occurs in 5–15% of all cases of breast cancer. In most studies, it is found to be more common among older patients, form larger tumours and present with ill-defined margins, in comparison to invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC). Material and methods: Histological preparations were obtained from 651 patients suffering from breast cancer. Preparations stained with hematoxylin and eosin were used to identify tumour type and grading. Samples underwent a basic molecular profile evaluation encompassing ER (oestrogen receptor), PR (progesterone receptor) and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) expression. Results: 592 cases of IDC and 59 cases of ILC were detected. The median age was 60 in both groups. While there were no statistically significant differences between IDC and ILC in nodal status and tumour size for all age groups, IDC was more frequently diagnosed at higher grading (G3). G3 accounted for 32% of all IDC specimens compared to only 13% of ILC specimens. In both groups, the most prevalent combination of hormone receptors was ER+/PR+/HER2-. The differences in ER and PR expression were statistically significant; both were assessed as positive in most ILC cases and just over half of IDC. No HER2 amplification was noted in most cases in both cancer subtypes. Conclusions: In our study, IDC and ILC showed no difference with respect to patients’ median age at the diagnosis and local disease advancement defined by TNM. ILC cases were hormone-dependent and HER2-negative more frequently than IDC. Grade 3 tumours accounted for a higher proportion of IDC cases. This was in line with several other clinicopathological analyses of breast cancer. However, there are also several papers indicating ILC’s association with favourable prognostic features, not only in terms of hormone receptors and HER2 expression but also tumour size and nodal involvement. This underlines the fact that clear differences between IDC and ILC prognosis still cannot be established.
