Opis:: The article addresses the issue of negative reactions to people who need help and to those who provide help. The author illustrates this problem with an example of a social action in Łódź, which she has been personally involved in, that aims at helping homeless people. The action is called the “Domni-Bezdomni” box (“home-ful for home-less”). The Box is a physical object that is a kind of street “furniture” located in a public place, which is meant to remind about homelessness and encourage help, and it constitutes a comfortable for both parties single point of contact for people affected by homelessness and those who can help. Simultaneously, the “Box action” reveals the stories of homeless people who ask for help and it is designed to address actual problems. The middle men in this process are volunteers, “Box keepers”, who stay in contact with both parties. By this example, the author reminds us what social exclusion is and presents the cultural mechanisms of social exclusion and stigmatization that come to light as a result of the “Box action”. The text also presents the methodology of such activities by showing the back-office of actions that are carried out in public space. It also shows the Action Research method being used in practice.

Opis:: The current article constructs the theoretical foundation, based chiefly on phenomenological reflection, devoted to the process of building biographies by women. Women have for a few years been researched by the author, who in her philosophical and anthropological reflections focuses on the categories of the ordinary and the commonplace, into which the interviewed women inscribed their lives. She also devoted her attention to the category of time, which is essential to the perception of one’s own identity and life, as well as to the category of suffering, which constituted a value in the majority of women’s biographical interviews

W artykule autorka buduje podłoże teoretyczne (oparte przede wszystkim na refleksji fenomenologicznej), poświęcone procesowi konstruowania biografii przez kobiety. Objęte były one badaniami na przestrzeni kilku ostatnich lat. W refleksji filozoficzno-antropologicznej autorka przybliża kategorie zwyczajności i potoczności, w które swoje życie wpisywały badane kobiety. Poświęca także uwagę kategorii czasu, istotnej w odczuwaniu własnej tożsamości i życia oraz kategorii cierpienia, która stawała się swoistą wartością w większości wywiadów biograficznych kobiet

Opis:: Autorka artykułu sięga do badawczych danych jakościowych gromadzonych od lat 60 XX w. w Archiwum Naukowym Instytutu Etnologii i Antropologii Kulturowej UŁ na temat lokalnej kultury robotniczej. Traktuje ten już historyczny materiał badawczy jako swoisty teren dla ponownych eksploracji etnograficznych na temat Łodzi i jej wyobrażenia jako miasta pracy, zwłaszcza miasta pracy kobiet zatrudnionych w zakładach włókienniczych.
The author of the article draws on qualitative research data that has been collected since the 1960s in the Scientific Archive of the Institute of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Łódź, focusing on local working-class culture. She also compares it with other sources. The author treats this now historical research material as a unique field for renewed ethnographic explorations about Łódź and its image as a city of labor, particularly as a city of women's labor in textile factories.

Opis:: This article concerns a fragment of research interests of the ethnographer from Lodz – professor Jaworska. In fact, Jaworska neither created the methodological theory of doing an ethnographical field research in a rural socio-cultural context nor the special theory connected with rural study, despite the fact that the most important area for her (in terms of science as well as her personal interests) were the Carpathian villages and the type of pastoral economy. Opis:: This text is devoted to selected questions on the border of the ethnography of Łodź and research into women’s issues, and thus joins the trend of women’s urban anthropology.
