Opis:
Damage detection in structural elements like beams is one of important research areas for health monitoring. Initiation of a fault in the form of a crack or any damage puts a limitation on the service life of a structural member. So, in this paper, a method is proposed which uses the advantages of soft computing techniques like Fuzzy Inference Systems (Mamdani and Sugeno) and Adaptive Genetic Algorithm for three stage refinement of the data base generated using dynamic responses from a cracked fixed-free aluminum alloy beam element. For the crack element reference, a finite element model of a single transverse crack has been considered. The proposed method describes both Mamdani and Sugeno Fuzzy Inference Systems for training of damage parameters. In the Adaptive Genetic Algorithm, a statistics based method has been incorporated to limit the randomness of the search process. Finally, the results from the Mamdani-Adaptive Genetic-Sugeno model (MAS) are validated with the results from the experimental analysis.

Opis:
In the era of humanoid robotics, navigation and path planning of humanoids in complex environments have always remained as one of the most promising area of research. In this paper, a novel hybridized navigational controller is proposed using the logic of both classical technique and computational intelligence for path planning of humanoids. The proposed navigational controller is a hybridization of regression analysis with adaptive particle swarm optimization. The inputs given to the regression controller are in the forms of obstacle distances, and the output of the regression controller is interim turning angle. The output interim turning angle is again fed to the adaptive particle swarm optimization controller along with other inputs. The output of the adaptive particle swarm optimization controller termed as final turning angle acts as the directing factor for smooth navigation of humanoids in a complex environment. The proposed navigational controller is tested for single as well as multiple humanoids in both simulation and experimental environments. The results obtained from both the environments are compared against each other, and a good agreement between them is observed. Finally, the proposed hybridization technique is also tested against other existing navigational approaches for validation of better efficiency.

Opis:
Fuzzy logic has been used in different research fields for more than three decades. It has become a robust method to solve complex and intricate problems which are otherwise difficult to solve by traditional methods. But it still requires some human experience and knowledge. In the present study, an attempt is made to design a hybrid optimization technique for automatic formation of the fuzzy knowledge based rules using an evolutionary algorithm. This hybridization technique has been applied in the field of damage detection and location of cracks in cracked structural elements. In this paper, a robust fault diagnostic tool based on a differential evolution algorithm and fuzzy logic has been proposed. Theoretical and Finite Element analyzes are done to model the crack and to find the effect of the presence of cracks on changes of vibrational characteristic (natural frequencies) of a fixed-fixed beam. The inputs to DEA-FL system are the first three relative natural frequencies, and the outputs from the system are the relative crack depth and relative crack location. For the validation of the results obtained from the proposed method and to check the robustness of the controller, experimental analysis is performed. To find average error rates, the bootstrap method has been adopted.

Opis:
In this paper, multiobjective variational programming problem is considered. Mond-Weir type higher order duality results are established by using the efficiency of higher order as the optimization tool. In order to prove these results, we propose the notion of generalized higher order (F,ρ,θ,m,h)−invexity.

Opis:
Multiobjective fractional variational problem is considered and sufficient optimality conditions, characterizing efficiency of higher order, are obtained under the assumptions of (F,ρ)−invexity of higher order on the functionals involved. Parametric higher order dual of the above stated problem is proposed. Duality theorems are proved to relate efficient solutions of higher order for primal and its dual problem using generalized class of functionals.

Opis:
A group of polycyclic and aliphatic azido-esters (as energetic plasticizers) have been synthesized by simple synthetic routes and their molecular structures were confirmed by spectroscopic techniques. In addition, their thermal and rheological properties have been determined utilizing DSC, TGA, viscosity, and contact angle. Computational studies of these plasticizers have been performed by means of DFT (B3LYP/6-31G*) to estimate possible stable structures, energies, heat of formation, bond dissociation energies, IR and NMR spectra etc. Their compatibility with glycidyl azide polymer (GAP) binder was studied to explore their applicability in propellants. All of these molecules are novel and have been synthesized with the possibility of scale up.

Opis:
Theoretical velocities of binary liquid mixtures of 1-bromopropane with chlorobenzene at 2 MHz and four different temperatures 303.15, 308.15, 313.15 and 318.15 K, have been evaluated as a function of concentration and temperature. The experimental values are compared with theoretical models of liquid mixtures such as Nomoto, Van Dael-Vangeel, Impedance Relation, Rao’s Specific Velocity Method, Junjie’s relations and Free Length Theory. In the chosen system there is a good agreement between experimental and theoretical values calculated by Nomoto’s theory. The deviation in the variation of U2exp/ U2imx from unity has also been evaluated for explaining the non ideality in the mixtures. The results are explained in terms of intermolecular interactions occurring in these binary liquid mixtures.

Opis:
Dry sliding wear tests are performed on magnesium composites produced by uniaxial cold press technique by using pin-on-disc. Co-efficient of friction and wear rate of magnesium composites are measured under a load of 5 N and sliding velocity of 0.2 ms-1 . Porosity, Vickers’s micro hardness, X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) results are presented to characterize the physical and mechanical properties of magnesium composites. Worn surfaces are inspected by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS). Three types of wear mechanisms namely abrasive, adhesive and oxidation were observed. The wear rate was found to be low for 2wt% of HAP (3.6×10–6cm3/m) and co-efficient of friction was observed as 0.8.

The birefringence technique has been used for the evaluation of order parameter in the nematic phase along with the density measurements, which are needed for the calculation of molecular polarizabilities of the compounds. Birefringence and density studies have been carried out on the three liquid crystalline compounds viz.(1) (E)-4-((4-hexyloxy)benzylidene)amino)phenyl 4-butoxybenzoate(2) (E)-4-((4-hexyloxy)benzylidene)amino)phenyl 4-(decycloxy)benzoate and(3) (E)-4-((4-hexyloxy)benzylidene)amino)phenyl 4-(tridecycloxy)benzoate.Using birefringence and density data the molecular polarizabilities are evaluated by two different internal field models due to Vuks and Neugebauer. The mean molecular polarizability of the compounds is also evaluated by employing modified Lippincott δ-function model. The results reveal that both the theoretical and experimental values obtained are very near to each other.

Opis:
Nanopowder of iron cyanide hydrate (member of Prussian blue family) was obtained using ferric chloride and potassium cyanide in their dilute solution through co-precipitation method. The effect of thermal annealing on iron cyanide hydrate nanocrystallites have been studied in detail. The formation of $Fe_4[Fe(CN)_6]_3$·$14H_2O$ and iron oxides was revealed by the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The crystal structure, morphology and size of nanocrystallites were investigated by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscope. Results suggest that using co-precipitation technique, nanopowder of iron cyanide hydrate, in typically spherical shape, can be obtained and their thermal treatment also yield iron oxide nanocrystallites of spherical with good homogeneity. The size of the prepared nanocrystallites was found in the range 20-36 nm. It was observed that thermal treatment, typically at 800°C (4 h), iron cyanide hydrate ($Fe_4[Fe(CN)_6]_3$·$14H_2O$) nanocrystallites transformed into iron oxide ($α-Fe_2O_{3,}$ hematite) nanocrystallites.
