Opis:
Introduction: In this study, we examined the impact of government measures being imposed to slow down the spread of COVID-19 pandemic on long-distance runners’ sports habits and well-being. Material and methods: Data from a total of 323 runners (mean age 41.72 (8.78), 41.8% male) were analysed using quantitative and qualitative methods. Results: 46.9% of runners changed their running habits during the pandemic, 20.4% partly changed it. The poorest psychological well-being was found in a group that changed previous habits. Only 9 individuals reported no running activity at all, and 10 trained on a treadmill instead of a field. Overall, our respondents ran significantly more during the quarantine than before, which is partly explained by changed working conditions, reduced working hours, or lost jobs. The explanatory variables of excess running were previous mileage and distress. Conclusions: Running is suitable for relieving distress and restoring the feeling of freedom. All of these were confirmed by our subjects in the survey interview.

Opis:
Background. It is important to recognize burnout symptoms among nurses, as it not only affects their wellbeing but can also compromise the quality of care they provide to patients. The aim of this study was to identify potential explanatory factors that help recognize nurse burnout. Material and methods. Nurses working in hospital settings were invited to take part in an online survey in 2023. Measurements included demographics, physical health (health status, physical activity), emotional states of depression, anxiety, and stress, as well as communication between nurses and physicians. To find explanatory factors for nurse burnout symptoms, hierarchical regression analysis was conducted using SPSS 28.0 statistical software. The significance level was set at p-values ≤ 0.05. Results. The data of 233 participants were analyzed, with 27.53±10.21 years of work experience. The majority of participants (93%) were female. The average age was 47.22±8.93 years. There were three significant variables that contributed to burnout symptoms: distress, nurse-physician communication and physical activity. Overall, the final model explained 58% of the variance. Conclusions. The results emphasize the significance of reducing distress, promoting healthy relationships between nurses and physicians, and encouraging physical activity as ways to lessen burnout among nurses. Since burnout among nurses doesn’t dissipate naturally, it necessitates deliberate intervention.
Wprowadzenie. Materiał i metody. Pielęgniarki i pielęgniarze pracujący w warunkach szpitalnych zaproszono do wzięcia udziału w ankiecie internetowej w 2023 roku. Pomiary obejmowały dane demograficzne, zdrowie fizyczne (stan zdrowia, aktywność fizyczną), stany emocjonalne depresji, lęku i stresu, a także komunikację między personelem pielęgniarskim i lekarzami. W celu stwierdzenia czynników wyjaśniających objawy wypalenia zawodowego pielęgniarek i pielęgniarzy, przeprowadzono hierarchiczną analizę regresji przy użyciu oprogramowania statystycznego SPSS 28.0. Poziom istotności został ustalony na poziomie wartości p≤0,05. Wyniki. Przeanalizowano dane 233 uczestników, mających średnio 27,53±10,21 lat doświadczenia zawodowego. Większość uczestników (93%) stanowiły kobiety. Średnia wieku wynosiła 47,22±8,93 lat. Stwierdzono trzy istotne zmienne, które przyczyniły się do wystąpienia objawów wypalenia zawodowego: zaniepokojenie, komunikacja pielęgniarka-lekarz i aktywność fizyczna. Ogólnie ostateczny model wyjaśnił 58% wariancji. Wnioski. Wyniki podkreślają znaczenie zmniejszania stresu, promowania zdrowych relacji między personelem pielęgniarskim i lekarzami oraz zachęcania do aktywności fizycznej jako sposobów na zmniejszenie wypalenia zawodowego wśród pielęgniarek i pielęgniarzy. Ponieważ wypalenie zawodowe wśród personelu pielęgniarskiego nie ustępuje w sposób naturalny, wymaga ono celowej interwencji.

Opis:
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about significant challenges in preparing nursing students with specific skills required in clinical settings. Amongst the major challenges faced was ensuring students are well prepared in the technique of donning and doffing to ensure infection control, avoid contamination and reduce unnecessary anxiety. A descriptive qualitative approach was used to study the experience of 14 student nurses who participated in a donning and doffing practical session prior to start of their clinical practice placement, including the use of a prototype application using AI. Purposive sampling was adopted and the data from individual interviews was analysed using thematic analysis. Four themes emerged, namely: an Engaging Tool for Learning; Reducing the Chance of Error; Building Self-Confidence; and Eliminating the 'Buddy System'. The early prototype generated positive themes, and its use in the educational setting to prepare students prior to clinical placement is encouraging and emphasises the importance of integrating technology in training with healthcare students.

Opis:
Background: The prevalence of mental health (MH) disorders among college-aged young adults is alarmingly high, with many also experiencing poor physical health and comorbidities. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of exercise on MH among college students. Materials and methods: Fifteen participants (60% males, 20.0 ± 2.0 years) participated in this 8-week study. Nine participants completed the exercise (EX) intervention, while 6 formed the non-exercise control (CON) group. The Depression Anxiety Stress Scores (DASS-21) instrument was used to collect data for the dependent variable and analyzed using linear mixed models (LMM). Results: No statistically significant differences were found in depression (F = 0.015, p = 0.904), anxiety (F = 1.038, p = 0.327), and overall MH (F = 0.266, p = 0.615) scores between groups or over time. The EX group’s pre/post scores (mean ± standard deviation) for depression (pre: 1.11 ± 2.62, post: 2.44 ± 5.34), anxiety (pre: 1.00 ± 0.87, post: 3.11 ± 2.52), and overall MH (pre: 3.33 ± 5.34, post: 8.55 ± 13.06). The CON group’s pre/post scores for depression (pre: 0.66 ± 1.21, post: 2.32 ± 3.83), anxiety (pre: 1.67 ± 2.40, post: 5.16 ± 6.49), and overall MH (pre: 4.33 ± 4.23, post: 13.33 ± 16.91). Conclusion: Although there were no statistically significant differences in depression, anxiety, and overall MH scores between the EX and CON groups, the findings may have practical implications. Notably, the anxiety and overall MH scores in the CON group exceeded the normal classification, and the EX group maintained normal scores throughout the 8-week intervention. These findings suggest that regular exercise likely plays a crucial role in sustaining MH status, highlighting its importance as a preventive measure rather than solely a therapeutic intervention.

Opis:
Physiotherapy, as a constantly evolving discipline, requires professionals to continually update their knowledge base to enhance patient care. To facilitate this growth, lifelong learning through supplementary educational courses plays a crucial role. The flexible online education has opened new opportunities for adult learners, including physiotherapists, to pursue further education while managing their daily commitments. This paper examines the conceptual framework of online learning in the context of physiotherapy education. It explores the advantages and disadvantages of online courses compared to traditional classroom methods. Online education is classified into three primary types: synchronous, asynchronous, and blended or hybrid courses. Synchronous courses involve real-time interaction with teachers, while asynchronous courses allow learners to access materials at their own convenience. Blended or hybrid courses combine online learning with face-to-face instruction. Advantages of online courses include accessibility, flexibility, cost-effectiveness, diverse learning resources, and the opportunity to build a global professional network. On the other hand, online courses lack continuous communication and interaction between teachers and learners, potentially hindering the learning experience. Learners must possess strong digital skills and self-study capabilities to succeed in online education. The study concludes that the choice between traditional and online education depends on specific course objectives and participant expectations. Regardless of the mode of education, the active participation and engagement of learners are crucial for professional success. As the field of physiotherapy education continues to evolve, ongoing research and innovation are vital to improve the overall learning experience and ensure optimal outcomes for lifelong learners in the healthcare field.

Opis:
The Body Appreciation Scale-2 (BAS-2) is a widely used measure of a core facet of the positive body image construct. However, extant research concerning measurement invariance of the BAS-2 across a large number of nations remains limited. Here, we utilised the Body Image in Nature (BINS) dataset - with data collected between 2020 and 2022 - to assess measurement invariance of the BAS-2 across 65 nations, 40 languages, gender identities, and age groups. Multi-group confirmatory factor analysis indicated that full scalar invariance was upheld across all nations, languages, gender identities, and age groups, suggesting that the unidimensional BAS-2 model has widespread applicability. There were large differences across nations and languages in latent body appreciation, while differences across gender identities and age groups were negligible-to-small. Additionally, greater body appreciation was significantly associated with higher life satisfaction, being single (versus being married or in a committed relationship), and greater rurality (versus urbanicity). Across a subset of nations where nation-level data were available, greater body appreciation was also significantly associated with greater cultural distance from the United States and greater relative income inequality. These findings suggest that the BAS-2 likely captures a near-universal conceptualisation of the body appreciation construct, which should facilitate further cross-cultural research.
