    Opis:
    The article Society, Individual, and Alienness in the Context of Modernity and Liquid Modernity. The analysis of Guillermo del Toro’s „The Shape of Water” Inspired by Zygmunt Bauman’s Thought analyses Guillermo del Toro’s eponymous movie, addressing Bauman’s theories of modernity, liquid modernity, and the place of the Other in the society. The issues depicted in the Oscar-winning film shall be examined as particularly relevant to the contemporaneous society’s turbulent problems and anxieties—and, at the same time, to the subgenre of urban fantasy, similarily steeped in the familiar urban space despite its supernatural tone. What remains unanswered, however, is whether Bauman’s theory has been employed purposefully (even if subconsciously) by the director, or whether it might be so deeply anchored in the everyday discourse that it has become non-negligible in any contemporary social debate.

    Pandemia COVID-19 i związany z nią kryzys ekonomiczny postawiły wiele osób z Ukrainy pracujących w Krakowie w trudnej sytuacji. Szczególnie narażone na skutki tejże są osoby pracujące w branżach wtórnego rynku pracy, reprezentowane licznie w grupie Ukraińców i Ukrainek. Badania opisane w niniejszej pracy miały na celu zdiagnozowanie sytuacji osób pochodzących z Ukrainy, a zamieszkałych i pracujących w Krakowie. Autor podjął się rekonstrukcji charakterystyk sieci społecznych migrantów i migrantek oraz zdiagnozowania problemów, które sytuacja pandemii postawiła przed nimi. Dalej, chciał dowiedzieć się do jakich rodzajów kapitału zapewniały dostęp poszczególne fragmenty sieci, a jakiego wsparcia nie zapewniały, jakie rodzaje wsparcia migranci i migrantki określali i określały jako potrzebne, jak takiego wsparcia poszukiwali i poszukiwały. Wyniki badań przedstawione zostają w kontekście demograficznych, społecznych i ekonomicznych statystyk związanych z uczestnictwem Ukraińców i Ukrainek w ogólnopolskim i małopolskim rynku pracy i szerzej, ich uczestnictwem w polskim życiu społecznym.
    The COVID-19 pandemics and the economic crises caused by it put many Ukrainians working in Cracow in very difficult circumstances. The people particularly vulnerable to this situation were those working in the secondary labour market. That applies to many Ukrainians employed here. The research described in my thesis aimed at defining the situation of the people of Ukrainian origin who live and work in Cracow. I have reconstructed the characteristics of the social networks of Ukrainian migrants and diagnosing the problems caused by the pandemics for them. Furthermore, I wanted to learn what kinds of resources could and could not be accessed by the immigrants through the particular parts of their networks. Moreover, what kinds of support the immigrants defined as desired and how they seeked it. The findings of the research are are presented in the context of the demographic, social and economic data concerning the Ukrainians' participation in the Polish and Lesser-Poland's voivodeship's labour market and social life.

    Opis:
    This paper analyses the changes in the involvement of Polish local governments in the system of public policies addressing the needs of forced migrants in Poland. The driver of such changes was the humanitarian emergency connected to the influx of Ukrainian forced migrants in 2022, which followed the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In a multi-level governance context, the article unpacks the policy-change process, discussing the interplay between the Polish public-policy system, the political context, the state polity, and local governments’ activity. During the humanitarian emergency, the external circumstances for local governments’ operations altered. Many local authorities attempted to expand their involvement, while sometimes questioning the inter-institutional power balance. The functional role – the scope of their responsibility and the activities that they undertake – of local governments in the discussed policy system was temporarily extended. Moreover, in the context of power relations between the actors of the policy system, their structural position vis-à-vis other stakeholders was redefined, as their agency and political impact increased. This article concludes that the above, mostly temporary, changes will have implications for the broader development of the Polish migration-policy system, resulting in Polish local governments inflicting greater political impact on such a system in the future, while also maintaining increased activity around policies addressing forced migrants.
