Opis:
From a skull and mandible, we describe a new genus and species of a primitive insectivore (Mammalia: Insectivora: Leptictida: Leptictidae). Its large body size and higher−crowned teeth indicate a different feeding ecology from other leptictid insectivores. With evidence of some heavy, flat wear on the molariform teeth, its shift in diet was likely to greater herbivory. Unlike the narrow snout of Blacktops, this new leptictid retains a broad snout, suggesting that small vertebrates were still important dietary components. The specimen was collected from the floodplain deposits of the lower or middle White River Group of South Dakota, which represent the latest Eocene to earliest Oligocene (Chadronian and Orellan North American Land Mammal “Ages”).

Dohrnigma nudifrons n. gen., n. sp. is described from Borneo. It seems to represent a transitional form related to Dohrniphora DAHL. Synaptophora BROWN is transferred to the Diplonevrini, which in turn is removed from the subfamily Aenigmatiinae.

Applications of machine learning (ML) to synthetic chemistry rely on the assumption that large numbers of literature-reported examples should enable construction of accurate and predictive models of chemical reactivity. This paper demonstrates that abundance of carefully curated literature data may be insufficient for this purpose. Using an example of Suzuki–Miyaura coupling with heterocyclic building blocks─and a carefully selected database of >10,000 literature examples─we show that ML models cannot offer any meaningful predictions of optimum reaction conditions, even if the search space is restricted to only solvents and bases. This result holds irrespective of the ML model applied (from simple feed-forward to state-of-the-art graph-convolution neural networks) or the representation to describe the reaction partners (various fingerprints, chemical descriptors, latent representations, etc.). In all cases, the ML methods fail to perform significantly better than naive assignments based on the sheer frequency of certain reaction conditions reported in the literature. These unsatisfactory results likely reflect subjective preferences of various chemists to use certain protocols, other biasing factors as mundane as availability of certain solvents/reagents, and/or a lack of negative data. These findings highlight the likely importance of systematically generating reliable and standardized data sets for algorithm training.

Opis:
The paper presents the technical problems related to the electrical control and command system (ECC system) for the plasma focus installation IPF-4/5A having the following main parameters: 1 MA plasma current and 40 kJ energy stored at 20 kV charging voltage. The ECC system applies 23 interlocked logical commands, acquires and processes 28 logical states, acquires, processes and displays continuously the main slow-varying signals coming from IPF-4/5A subassemblies. All the plasma focus installation operational sequences are governed by strict hard and soft interlocking using in parallel two control and command systems: one based on PC-control methods and another based on classical control techniques.
