The subject of the article is the 2-week long stay of the Czech actress, Marie Pospíšilová in Cracow in the year 1885. It is worth mentioning that up until now, this event has not  been described anywhere. The author presents the silhouette of the visitor as well as the reason and circumstances of her visit. He also describes the reaction of the critics and of the public which attended the six performances the actress had given in Cracow, mentioning among others, the many instances of the sympathy shown to the actress by the Cracow milieu. The author describes the Czech visitor’s active participation in a few social events. The visit is characterized as an artistic, social and political event

This article is an attempt to show the non-professional reception of literature and theatre of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries by ‘a young theatre amateur’ from Cracow. It reveals the dilemmas of a patriot who was convinced about the obligation of art to serve the nation, while at the same time she was interested in the ideas of Nietzsche and the theme of art as a temple propagated by “Chimera”. Elżbieta Kietlińska (b. 1881) who received no secondary education, had no job, and never founded a family, did not work, did not belong to any organisation, had no artistic ambitions, for many years lived on art, which gave meaning to her life. Intimate confessions of this inhabitant of Cracow show a spontaneous acceptance by young people of Słowacki (in particular), but also of Mickiewicz and Krasiński, and did not resist to accept the pre-first night performances of plays which ‘were not written to be staged’. Among her contemporaries she considered Wyspiański – the playwright and theatre artist to be the greatest authority: matter-of-factly and vividly she writes about his work as stage manager. Of modern European dramaturgy she most valued and deeply experienced Russian drama. With appreciation, but not uncritically, she was watching the work of Ibsen. She was fascinated by the genius of Wagner as a composer. She was the opposite of a ‘Philistine’. Her opinions, thoughts and emotions, may be the subject of all kinds of studies by the researchers of culture of the period of modernism.

Wspomnienie poświęcone Jerzemu Gotowi (1923–2004), historykowi teatru, dokumentaliście i edytorowi, inicjatorowi pierwszego programu uniwersyteckich studiów teatrologicznych na Uniwersytecie Jagiellońskim. Autor przedstawia koleje życia zawodowego Gota: pracę w Zakładzie Historii i Teorii Teatru Instytutu Sztuki PAN (1956–1967), organizację działu teatralnego Muzeum Historycznego Krakowa (1961–1966), pracę na Uniwersytecie Jagiellońskim (1967–1978) i owocny okres samodzielnie prowadzonych badań naukowych po przeprowadzce do Wiednia w 1978 roku. Podkreśla zasługi Gota dla sprofilowania i rozwoju badań teatrologicznych w ośrodku krakowskim i otwarcia go na współpracę międzynarodową. Akcentuje wszechstronność uczonego – łączącego zamiłowanie do dokumentalistyki i poszukiwań archiwalnych z umiejętnościami analitycznymi i talentem interpretacyjnym. Wskazuje najważniejsze obszary zainteresowań Gota: historię teatru krakowskiego, historię teatru lwowskiego, biografistykę teatralną (Antonina Hoffmann, Helena Modrzejewska, Bogumił Dawison, Ludwik Solski), a także kulturę starożytnej Grecji. Wspomina ponadto o jego pasji fotograficznej, ściśle związanej z badaniami teatralnymi.
A memoir devoted to Jerzy Got (1923–2004), theater historian, documentalist, and editor, initiator of the first program of academic theater studies at Jagiellonian University. The author presents the turns of Got's professional life: his work at the Department of Theater History and Theory of the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences (1956–1967), the organization of the theater department of the Historical Museum of Krakow (1961–1966), his work at Jagiellonian University (1967–1978), and the fruitful period of his independent research after moving to Vienna in 1978. He emphasizes Got's merits for profiling and developing theatrical research at the Jagiellonian University and opening it to international cooperation. He emphasizes the versatility of the scholar—combining a love of documentary and archival research with analytical skills and interpretive talent. He points out the most important areas of Got's interest: the history of the theater of Cracow, the history of the theater of Lviv, theatrical biography (Antonina Hoffmann, Helena Modrzejewska, Bogumił Dawison, Ludwik Solski), as well as the culture of ancient Greece. He also mentions his passion for photography, which was closely related to theater research.

Dorobek naukowy profesora Jana Michalika jest powszechnie znany i szanowany. Z tego względu każda książka jego autorstwa budzi zainteresowanie i niemal w ciemno można powiedzieć, że zasługuje na wydanie. Niemniej Gawędy o teatrze krakowskim przyciągają uwagę z dodatkowych względów. Książka zbiera teksty rozproszone, w większości już opublikowane, ale w wydawnictwach niszowych, księgach zbiorowych czy czasopismach, nie zawsze łatwo dostępnych. Jest też kilka tekstów wcześniej niepublikowanych. Ułatwienie czytelnikom i badaczom dostępu do tych rozpraw to pierwszy, najprostszy argument za wydaniem tego zbioru. Drugi to prezentacja znakomitego warsztatu badawczego, na którym mogą i powinny się uczyć kolejne pokolenia teatrologów. Właśnie w takim zestawieniu tekstów większych i drobnych znakomicie widać, jak znaczącą naukową wartość mogą mieć hasła słownikowe, przyczynki, emendacje, komentarze, uzupełnienia – nawet w zakresie tematów z pozoru znanych i przebadanych (jak Wyspiański czy Modrzejewska). Profesor Michalik (autor obszernych monografii) jest i w tym zakresie mistrzem.
