Opis:: Although Lean has been known and applied in both theoretical and practical on around the world for many years, a deeper understanding of Lean tools, principles implementation, and a roadmap to successfully apply is needed. In the context of Small and medium enterprises (SME), it is very difficult for local enterprises to apply synchronization Lean tools, techniques, and principles because of limited resources in manpower, technology, and management capability. Through the case-based study, this paper proposed the four-phase roadmap for Lean application in SMEs. An analysis of methods from a literature review of Lean implementation was conducted in order to identify the phases of the roadmap. Then, six SMEs in Vietnam that applied Lean were chosen to collect data and analyze the applicability and how Lean tools are successful implemented in the cases to confirm the findings.

Opis:: Kaizen has long been known as an improvement philosophy that starts with small frequent changes to make larger changes in production. These changes come from the ideas and creative thinking of employees to ensure that the production conditions and processes are continuously improved. However, Kaizen not only helps motivate employees to think creatively with effective methods and skills, but it also helps them develop their capabilities, personality, and good work habits. The purpose of this paper is to show a new approach to human resources quality improvement through the Kaizen philosophy as a sustainable and active strategy to improve work performance. With analytical research on the relationship between Kaizen implementation, human resources quality improvement, and production efficiency and exploratory research on particular cases in manufacturing enterprises in Vietnam, the authors point out changes in production efficiency and human capacity before and after implementing improvement (Kaizen) projects. The paper finds significant changes of employee capability (Kaizen practitioners) after evaluating the human resource development process on the basis of six indicators of two groups (namely capacity development, personality development) and a set of criteria using a 5-point scale. In addition, the paper proposes a PDCA based framework with 12 contents corresponding to stages of the human resource development. This paper extends theories related to Lean Manufacturing or Kaizen, highlighting how philosophy of Kaizen has hard and soft impacts on the improvement of performance and human resources.

Opis:: Lean is one of the systematic approach to achieve higher value for organizations through eliminate non-value-added activities. It is an integrated set of tools, techniques, and principles designed to optimize cost, quality and delivery while improving safety. In Vietnam, industry waste management and treatment has become serious issue. The aim of this research is to present the effective of Lean application for industrial wastes collecting and delivery improvement. Through a case study, this paper showed the way of Lean tools and principles applied for wastes management and treatment such as Value Stream Mapping, Pull system, Visual Control, and Andon to get benefit on both economic and environment. In addition, the results introduced a good experience for enterprises in Vietnam and other countries have similar conditions to Vietnam in cost saving and sustainable development in waste management.

Opis:: The purpose of this paper is to introduce basic principles of benchmarking and explain the methodology to set the specific energy consumption (SEC) target for the beer and beverage industry in Vietnam to evaluate performance, support decisions, and energy efficiency (EE) improvement. Energy benchmarking management method is used to assess EE performance. This study also presents the SEC methodology as a guide for Vietnam enterprises in the brewery sector on how to manage the EE consumption and to comply with the legal energy consumption quota in the beer and beverage production. The study supports the enterprise in how to determine the SEC and support for national EE is essential to the promotion and deployment of practical energy saving solutions and compliance with the SEC through a suitable energy-saving target. In addition, this paper is introducing the original SEC calculation in three cases of production in the beer and beverage industry including producing beer only, producing beverage only, and producing both beer & beverage in the context of Vietnam.

Opis:: Today, more and more Vietnamese firms consider continuous improvement as the best way to increase their manufacturing capability. This paper aims to illustrate the effectiveness of manufacturing processes management from the Samsung production system (SPS) approach when it was implemented to improve capability of existing production process in Vietnamese firms. The paper is a combination of descriptive and field research to demonstrate how SPS principles are appropriate for five real industry cases in particular and all Vietnamese manufacturing companies in general. In five cases, the usage of SPS-based tools has turned out to be fruitful. They solved problems of continuous improvement management in Vietnamese firms and created significant achievements in quality improvement and productivity increase. The paper investigates the core value of Samsung’s continuous process improvement. The way that Samsung has used to improve quality and profitability simultaneously can be adapted by manufacturing companies.

Opis:: Lean Manufacturing is a popular method to achieve the improvement on productivity, quality, cost, and delivery for organizations. This approach focuses on the systematics to eliminate wastes and non-value added activities from the production. This study mentions the successes and challenges of Vietnam manufacturing enterprises for adapting and transformation for Lean Manufacturing approaching. The aim of this study is to analyze the characteristics of Vietnam enterprises that influencing Lean outcome and present critical factors for overcoming obstacles to successful Lean implementation in Vietnam local enterprises. This paper uses case-based research to collect data through multiple cases that applied Lean to drive the findings. A combination of comprehensive literature review and interview key persons at case study was employed in this study. This study also highlights the strong potential of Lean implementation initiatives in affecting organizational performance improvements.

Opis:: Through years Sony in Japan has shown success in bringing to themarket high quality products, and via technical inventions. Today risk management is one of vital issues in Sony to maintain its reputation in global markets. The purpose of this study is to find out impacts of economic factors at macro level on net profit of a big technological giant like Sony. We found that movement of net profit in big firms such as Sony will reflect the business health of technology system and the whole economy. The results of quantitative research, in a seven factor model, show that the increase in inflation, GDP (increasing too much) and lending rate and reducing risk free rate has a significant effect on reducing Sony net profit with the highest impact coefficient, the second is decreasing the exchange rate. Last but not least, this study proposes risk management solutions and business management plans to lower business risks, cost and enhance its net profit.

Opis:: Facial recognition has been one of the most intriguing and exciting research topics over the last few years. It involves multiple face-based algorithms such asfacial detection, facial alignment, facial representation, and facial recognition. However, all of these algorithms are derived from large deep-learning architectures, leading to limitations in development, scalability, accuracy, and deployment for public use with mere CPU servers. Also, large data sets that contain hundreds of thousands of records are often required for training purposes. In this paper, we propose a complete pipeline for an effective face-recognition application that requires only a small data set of Vietnamese celebrities and a CPU for training, solving the problem of data leakage, and the need for GPU devices. The pipeline is based on the combination of a conversion algorithm from face vectors to string tokens and the indexing & retrieval process by Elasticsearch, thereby tackling the problem of online learning in facial recognition. Compared with other popular algorithms on the same data set, our proposed pipeline not only outperforms the counterpart in terms of accuracy but also delivers faster inference, which is essential to real-time applications.
