Opis:
Background: The networked economy is a result of the increasing specialization and productivity. The blurring of company boundaries enables potential for new competitive advantages. However, along with the growing networked economy, the complexity also increases. Methods: With their current study the German logistics association sheds a light on the most important trends of the networked and complex economy and the strategies of logistics and supply chain management (SCM) coping with them. Results and conclusions: This paper focuses on the collaboration of actors in logistics and supply chain management and the communication required for being successful. Furthermore, going beyond the study, the role of collaboration for innovation in logistics and SCM is considered, that has been neglected in literature so far. Finally, the paper concludes with a discussion reflecting the current state of collaboration in the context of its potential.

Opis:
The study presents methods to be used for improving the performance parameters of car engine pistons made of EN AC-AlSi12CuNiMg alloy according to the PN-EN 1706: 2011. Pistons of slow sucking and turbocharged engines were researched. A solution heat and ageing treatments were applied according to four variants. Temperatures of the solution heat treatment were: 550 ±5°C; 510°C ±5°C; and alternate: 276 ±5°C/510 ±5°C. The solution time ranged from 6 min to 4 h. Temperatures of the ageing heat treatment were 20°C and 250°C, while the ageing time ranged from 1,5 to 3h. Natural ageing was performed in 5 days. Measurements of hardness HRB and the piston diameters were performed. An improvement in the performance parameters of combustion engines was observed. Three solution heat treatment and ageing variants, allowed to obtain the pistons with hardness equal/higher than pistons of the turbocharged engines. The test results confirmed the possibility of providing a piston with properties exceeding the high load parameters specified by the manufacturer. Further studies will make it possible to improve the effects of the proposed solutions.

Opis:
Matrix factorization is at the heart of many machine learning algorithms, for example, dimensionality reduction (e.g. kernel PCA) or recommender systems relying on collaborative filtering. Understanding a singular value decomposition (SVD) of a matrix as a neural network optimization problem enables us to decompose large matrices efficiently while dealing naturally with missing values in the given matrix. But most importantly, it allows us to learn the connection between data points’ feature vectors and the matrix containing information about their pairwise relations. In this paper we introduce a novel neural network architecture termed similarity encoder (SimEc), which is designed to simultaneously factorize a given target matrix while also learning the mapping to project the data points’ feature vectors into a similarity preserving embedding space. This makes it possible to, for example, easily compute out-of-sample solutions for new data points. Additionally, we demonstrate that SimEc can preserve non-metric similarities and even predict multiple pairwise relations between data points at once.

Tourism geographies are a vibrant field of scientific inquiry. Despite this, it is obvious that the sub-discipline is met with disinterest within geography departments, at the same time as tourism geographers are welcomed and acknowledged within the wider tourism community. This article offers some reflections and an institutional perspective on the tourism–geography nexus. This is accomplished by reviewing the institutional and geographical affiliations of authors in the journal Tourism Geographies. It is shown that tourism geographies are successful globally, but for various reasons are increasingly marginalized within geography departments. Hence, it is concluded that tourism geographies seem to be moving out of geography departments, which may turn out to deprive students of learning about the geography of a major driver of global and regional change.

Opis:
In a 4f-3d ferrimagnet the molecular field (a net value expressing the relevant exchange interactions) can be determined from high-field magnetization measurements. If the applied field is high enough, it breaks the ferrimagnetic ground state and drives the system towards ferromagnetic order via non-collinear intermediate phases. Magnetization curves of $Er_2Fe_{17}$ singe crystal were measured along the [100] crystallographic direction in magnetic fields up to 50 T. An unfixed sample, free to rotate, was measured as well. The magnetization measured along the easy magnetization direction shows jumps at 37.5 and 44 T. The first jump was used for the determination of the molecular field (66.4 T). This agrees with the data for the unfixed sample where a kink in the magnetization at 33.5 T yields a molecular field of 65.7 T. The obtained values are in a good agreement with literature data.

Structure, magnetic properties and magnetoresistance in as-quenched and annealed Co$\text{}_{x}$Cu$\text{}_{100-x}$ samples were investigated. Homogeneous metastable Co$\text{}_{x}$Cu$\text{}_{100-x}$ alloys were prepared by the single-roller technique. The maximum value of magnetoresistance is shifted to higher annealing temperatures with increasing measuring temperature. At higher measuring temperatures the magnetoresistance is not saturated in fields as high as 16 T. Susceptibility measurements showed the formation of hcp-structured Co clusters. For small cobalt concentrations there is a transition from giant magnetoresistance to the normal anisotropic magnetoresistance.

Samples of the composition RE$\text{}_{x}$Co$\text{}_{20}$Cu$\text{}_{80-x}$, RE = Sm, Gd or Dy (x = 0, 1, and 3) were produced by melt-spinning and subsequent annealing. The magnetoresistance is negative as in granular Co-Cu, but its values depend on the kind of rare earth element added and on changes in the microstructure induced by thermal annealing. An addition of 1 at.% rare earth metal to Co$\text{}_{20}$Cu$\text{}_{80}$ yields a considerable increase in the magnetoresistance ratio, whereas an addition of 3 at.% causes a decrease. E.g., by addition of 1 at.% Dy to Co$\text{}_{20}$Cu$\text{}_{80}$ and optimal thermal treatment, the value of magnetoresistance ratio measured at 10 K in a field of 5 T increases from -14% to -28%. The effect can be attributed to the presence of clusters of hexagonal Dy(Co,Cu)$\text{}_{5}$, which was ascertained from X-ray diffraction data, or other, metastable rare-earth compounds and paramagnetic rare-earth atoms in the Cu matrix.

Opis:
The electron transport properties and point contact spectra of melt-spun DyCu$\text{}_{5}$ with the cubic phase (structure type AuBe$\text{}_{5}$, space group $F\overline{4}3m$) were investigated. It was found by ac-susceptibility measurements that below a transition temperature T$\text{}_{m}$=6.5 K this phase shows metamagnetism. Between T$\text{}_{m}$ and T$\text{}_{C}$=14.5 K a spontaneous magnetization is found. Our measurements of electrical resistivity confirm the existence of two magnetic phase transitions in the compound. Furthermore, we present point contact spectra of DyCu$\text{}_{5}$-Cu heterocontacts which are directly proportional to the electron-quasiparticle interaction function. Apart from a peak at about 18 meV, which is characteristic of electron-phonon interaction in pure Cu, we observed a series of additional maxima at lower energy, which are connected with the allowed 4f-transitions from the ground state to excited crystalline electric field levels.

Opis:
The arthropod Oelandocaris oelandica from the upper Middle Cambrian “Orsten” of Sweden was recently recognized as a member of the early phase of crustacean evolution based on additional morphological detail from new specimens. Here we present a detailed investigation of all available material. It includes the description of a 400 μm long specimen probably representing an early developmental stage. Variation in size correlated with variation of trunk−segment numbers allowed recognition of different instars. The largest specimens do not exceed an estimated length of about 1 mm, indicating that our material may consist only of immature specimens. The characteristic, extremely long antennula of O. oelandica branches into three long rods. It may have served as the major structure to sweep in food, aided by the two subsequent appendages. These and the more posterior limbs were also responsible for locomotion. Minute pores on the outer edges of the posterior limbs and on the trunk tergites possibly contained sensilla originally, which may have served as water−current detectors. The presence of a minute proximal endite only on the third head appendage suggests a rather basal position of this species within Crustacea, because comparable developmental stages of other known stem crustaceans have such an endite on more of their appendages. Reconstruction of O. oelandica and its life attitudes (referred to the largest instar known) benefited from the application of 3D modelling. These helped, e.g., in identifying the combination of the plesiomorphic feeding function of the antennulae and the specialisation of the exopods of the next two appendages as a step toward the development of a sweep−net mode of feeding, one of the key novelties in the evolution of Crustacea. Such a mode of feeding coupled with locomotion of the three anterior appendages is still practiced in the naupliar and metanaupliar phases of many extant eucrustaceans, and even some adults.
