Opis:
By using the femtosecond and picosecond transient absorption measurement techniques, we have investigated diphenylacetylene, diphenylbutadiyne, and their methoxy and cyano derivatives in the solution phase. Both the rapid S$\text{}_{2}$ → S$\text{}_{1}$ internal conversion in the subpicosecond time scale and the triplet formation in the tens of picosecond region were observed for diphenylbutadiyne and its methoxy derivatives, while the dynamic behavior of dimethoxy-diphenylacetylene was quite similar to that of diphenyl acetylene. The level inversion of the lowest excited singlet states of dicyano-diphenylbutadiyne was observed. The thermally activated S$\text{}_{2}$ ← S$\text{}_{1}$ internal conversion was not negligible and the sum of the rate constants of S$\text{}_{2}$ → S$\text{}_{1}$ and S$\text{}_{2}$ ← S$\text{}_{1}$ internal conversions was estimated to be about 5 × 10$\text{}^{11}$ s$\text{}^{-1}$ at room temperature.

Opis:
This paper proposes the design concept that prevents its total weight from increasing. The object of the methodology is to modify a conventional robot chassis for structural simplicity by composing the chassis from an elastic material so that it can reduce vibration and shock to the body. This idea makes it unnecessary to attach additional elements, such as suspension units; in addition, it means that it is possible to easily deform the chassis by forming long holes, and to decrease the total weight of the robot, even when the chassis is thick enough for functionality. It contributes to preventing the weight of the power source from increasing. Structural models for analyzing flexure of the chassis using the finite element method (FEM) are pursued. Also, dynamic behaviors of the chassis are clarified based on the modal analysis. The minor difference in error between the experimental and analytical data verifies that the models are useful in a practical application.

Opis:
It has been generally recognized that excited 9,9'-bianthryl in polar solvents achieves a partial charge-separation state, instead of a complete electron transfer state, even in high-polarity solvents like acetonitrile at room temperature. However, here we firstly found that 9,9'-bianthryl reaches the complete electron transfer state in a polar alkanenitrile solvent at lower temperature as elucidated by means of transient absorption and steady-state fluorescence spectroscopy. A stepwise increase in the fluorescence Stokes shift observed when temperature was reduced implies a formation of a state more polar than that dominated at the room temperature. At low temperature (165 K), the transient absorption spectra of 9,9'-bianthryl in butyronitrile gradually changed from the spectrum ascribed to the partial change-separation state toward that of the complete electron transfer state. We suggest that at low temperature, due to the increase in the solvent polarity, the energetically stabilized electron transfer state should be predominant.

Opis:
This paper proposes the usefulness of combining an electromagnetic clutch and brake with a pendulum for antiswing for developing a stabilized wideband pendulum-type gravity direction sensor. The pendulum-type sensor is high in response to direction change but liable to swing even when the change stops, in general. Therefore, anti-swing control without degrading sensitivity of direction measurement is important. Continuous damping of the pendulum motion causes an error in a stationary condition unless the pendulum is free from damping repetitively in an appropriate term. To develop a quick response direction sensor without error, we use a magnetic device. Based on motion analysis of a double pendulum, we simulate behaviours of the pendulum-type sensor by actuating the magnetic device by using different signals in form, frequency and magnitude. Also, we fabricate a motion simulator having two rotation joints to evaluate the anti-swing effect of the magnetic device. In the experiment we demonstrate that the device is beneficial for suppressing pendulum vibration over a wideband for measuring resultant direction of the acceleration compound with motion and gravity on such a platform moving randomly. Also, we show that a triangular signal is better than a sinusoidal signal for making the settling time short; however difference is within a narrow margin.

Opis:
Multi-hop ad hoc networks are promising candidates for next generation mobile communications. They have sufficient channel capacity to achieve high data rate transmission for large number of users. One advantage of multi-hop networks is to realize multi-route transmissions. Since information bit streams can be transmitted over multiple routes, we can obtain route diversity effect. In order to enhance the route diversity effect, we usually introduce forward error correction schemes. Turbo coding is one of suitable coding methods for multi-hop networks. The turbo encoder generates one message stream and two parity streams whilst the message stream is more important than the parity streams for achieving reliable communications. Thus an unequal power allocation to the message and parity streams could be effective in improving the performance. In this paper, the effect of unequal power allocation for turbo coded multi-hop networks is investigated. Assuming the channel as additive white Gaussian and binary symmetric, we will show considerable performance improvement by unequal power allocation in terms of the bit error rate performance in multi-route multi-hop networks.

Opis:
Pulsed streamer discharges have been extensively used in many applications such as control of $NO_X$ and $SO_2$ from exhaust gases, treatment of dioxins, removal of volatile organic compounds, generation of ozone and laser excitation. An operation with a high-energy efficiency is necessary for practical applications. It is very important to know the propagation mechanism of streamer discharges in order to improve the energy efficiency of pulsed discharge systems. In this paper, the emission from pulsed streamer discharges in a coaxial electrode system in air at 0.1 MPa was observed using a high-speed gated intensified charge-coupled display camera. A concentric wire-cylinder electrodes configuration was used. Positive and negative pulsed voltages having a width of about 200 ns were applied to the central electrode. From the results, the streamer discharges were initiated at the inner electrode and terminated at the outer electrode. It is suggested that the propagation velocity of the streamer discharges is being influenced strongly by the rise time and the polarity of the pulsed voltage.

Opis:
We found the easy and efficient synthesis method of the vertically aligned ultralong multi-walled nanotubes using iron chloride powder. The 2.1-mm-long bulk nanotubes can be grown by conventional thermal chemical vapor deposition on bare quartz surface with the single gas flow of acetylene for 20 min. In addition to the high growth rate, the bulk of carbon nanotubes is easily spun into the yarn by pulling it out, and the present method also provides the coating ability with nanotubes as a new functionality of this nanomaterial. Opis:
MRI is one of medical diagnostic imaging technologies that can draw the cross section in the body. To obtain a clearer image, Gd complexes are often used as MRI contrast agents. Gd-DTPA (Gd-Diethylenetriaminepentaacetate, Magnevist registered trademark ) is used in particular as the MRI contrast agents. We prepared and evaluated novel MRI contrast agents that were chemically modified Gd-DTPA with sugars (represented as Gd-DTPA-Sugar) via hydrolysis route for providing specificity to target organs and tissues. Gd-DTPASugar complex showed an excellent potential for the MRI contrast agent (r1=31.2 s-1mM-1). Gd-DTPA-Sugar complexes alternatively prepared by shorter synthetic route without protection/ deprotection (hydrolysis) method showed inferior results (r1=6.3 and 8.1 s-1mM-1) to the hydlized product.

Opis:
The antikaon–nucleon ($ \bar{K}N $) interaction close to threshold provides crucial information on the interplay between spontaneous and explicit chiral symmetry breaking in low-energy QCD. In this context, the importance of kaonic deuterium X-ray spectroscopy has been well recognized, but no experimental results have yet been obtained due to the difficulty of the measurement. We propose to measure the shift and width of the kaonic deuterium 1s state with an accuracy of 60 eV and 140 eV, respectively, at J-PARC. These results, together with the kaonic hydrogen data (KpX at KEK, DEAR and SIDDHARTA at DA$\Phi$NE), will then permit the determination of values of both the isospin I = 0 and I = 1 antikaon–nucleon scattering lengths and will provide the most stringent constraints on the antikaon–nucleon interaction, promising a breakthrough. Refined Monte Carlo studies were performed, including the investigation of background suppression factors for the described setup. These studies have demonstrated the feasibility of determining the shift and width of the kaonic deuterium atom 1s state with the desired accuracy of 60 eV and 140 eV.
