    This paper presents results of a meta-analysis on the theoretical and economic aspects of using wood biomass for the production of energy in Poland. The source data used in the analyses were obtained from various official sources and statistics as well as previously published scientific studies. The results lead to the conclusion that the wood biomass supplied for energy production in the year 2012 amounted to a total of 18 million cubic meters, of which forestry supplied 6.8 million m3, the wood industry 6.5 million m3 and public utilities provided 4.5 million m3.

    Opis:
    In recent years, recreation in forest areas is gaining in importance. Therefore, there is a need for its valuation. The valuation services of the forest environment is a relatively new field of science but is applied in practice. One of the examples is presented in this paper. The article describes the economic valuation of non-wood forest uses e. g. forest recreational function. The research was conducted in the "Janowskie Forests” Promotional Forest Complex due to the fact that it is an area, which was appointed mainly to promote recreation in forestry.

    Opis:
    The objective of the study was to estimate the opportunities reduction of environmental pollution as a result of increased use of wood biomass for the energy production at the cost of coal in Poland. The source data used in the analyses were obtained from various official sources and statistics as well as previously published scientific studies. The results lead to the conclusion that the environmental benefits exist as the reduction of pollution: SO – 104.8 thousand tons, NO – 11.6 thousand 2 x tons, CO – 15.6 million tons, and dust – 20.6 thousand tons.

    The central task of this research was to choose the age at which stands of growing timber should be harvested. The choice governs how long each stand must continue to earn interest, and also governs the size of the total inventory that must be maintained to sustain the annual harvest. It is a problem that calls for analysis of biological as well as economic relationships over time, and has intrigued economists for more than two centuries. The paper presents the theoretical background and results of economic optimization of the rotation age of a single stand. It analyses the timber production function depending on rotation age, growth, cost and other characteristics of forest, as well as the costs of land. The prerequisite for achieving the economic optimum of the rotation age of a stand is to balance the current increase in the total timber production value (growth and yield) and the value of opportunity costs from delaying cutting till the next year. This paper demonstrates how this economically optimum rotation age can be calculated, and how it varies according to the biological growth and economic parameters of the forest.
