Opis:
Introduction. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is group of global range inflammatory conditions. There has been a regular increase in the number of IBD cases. Patients exclude whole food groups from their diet fearing the emergence of disease symptoms or due to learning from unreliable sources. Doing so, they might deepen the already existing vitamin deficiencies which occur along with the shortage of many minerals. These deficiencies might intensify the disease process or cause a new one. The most common deficits pointed out by numerous researchers concern vitamin D, calcium, cobalamin, folic acid and iron. It is well worth introducing selenium, zinc and ascorbic acid into a diet because of their immunomodulating effect. Important aspect of the healing process is a personalized diet which is designed to compensate for, or prevent vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Aim. The purpose of the study was to review the literature about vitamin and mineral deficiency in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases. Materials and method. Analysis of literature

Opis:
Introduction and objective. Bone sialoprotein (BSP) is present in a non-collagenous fraction of bone matrix, in dentine, cement and calcified cartilage. The characteristic place where sialoprotein is produced makes it highly specific in relation to the bone tissue and the possibility of using it as a marker of bone metabolism. The study aimed to assess the BSP level in the saliva of female patients at the menopausal and postmenopausal period. Materials and method. The study included 71 women aged 45–74 years. In the examined subjects, bone mineral density and bone sialoprotein levels in saliva were determined. Patients also responded to survey questions about place of residence and the frequency of consumption of foods rich in calcium. The obtained results were statistically analyzed. Results. In the study population of women, BSP saliva concentration ranged from 0.40–14.97 ng/ml. The highest BSP values were observed in the control group (average – 5.66 ng/ml, median – 6.73 ng/ml,), the lowest in the osteopenia group (average – 3.09 ng/ml, median – 1.71 ng/ml). This relationship was close to statistical significance (p = 0.056). Place of residence of the surveyed women had neither effect on BSP concentration in saliva nor on the value of the T-score ratio. Similarly, there was no statistically significant relationship between the frequency of consumption of foods rich in calcium and BSP and T-score. Conclusions. It was found that the BSP level can be determined in saliva. Biochemical tests of saliva considering bone metabolism are an issue that should be continued in future, as the availability of material (saliva) for laboratory analyses, carries potential diagnostic opportunities.

Changes in erosion processes and morphology of step-pool channels in the ski resort with artificial snowmaking, an example from Gubałowskie foothills

Opis:
The construction of ski runs with artificial snowmaking in mountainous areas changes natural water circulation and leads to the activation of erosion and deposition processes. To recognise this relationship, we selected a small catchment in the Gubałowskie Foothills, the Inner Carpathians, where 17% of the area is covered by the ski runs. In our study, we hypostatised that: (i) channels draining ski runs exhibit different morphological and morphometric characteristics compared to those that do not drain ski runs; (ii) the statistical relationships between channel morphometric parameters differ between impacted and non-impacted channels; and (iii) erosion and deposition processes lead to measurable changes in channel morphology that can be quantitatively assessed in the research area. To identify these changes, we conducted geomorphological mapping of step-pool channels, statistical analyses, digital elevation model (DEM), and DEM of difference (DoD) analyses (based on point clouds from 2016 to 2023). To identify the effect of ski run construction on channel morphology, we divided channels into two groups: (1) stream channels unaffected by ski infrastructure and (2) stream channels affected by ski infrastructure. Results showed that the routing of drainage from the ski runs to the channels leads to a significant erosion in the channels with the maximum deepening, up to 2.6 m. It also changes the dominant geomorphological processes in the channels. Fluvial processes are beginning to dominate slope processes. The described changes occurred already 8 years after the opening of the ski station and revealed environmental degradation connected to artificial snowmaking in ski resorts.

Opis:
Celem artykułu jest ukazanie roli gry miejskiej w kreowaniu wizerunku miasta. Gra miejska to rodzaj zabawy, realizowany w czasie rzeczywistym w przestrzeni miejskiej (plansza rozgrywki), w której gracze rozwiązują zadania, według pewnych schematów.

Opis:
This study compares the performance of a plain bearing, with a similar structure to a tail shaft stern bearing, lubricated with either mineral oil or an environmentally acceptable lubricant (EAL). The main characteristic of the bearing is its length/diameter ratio of <1. Measurements are carried out with the bearing operating under loads from 0.5 to 1 MPa and seven speeds ranging from 1 to 11 rev/s. The bearing lubricated with either mineral oil with a viscosity grade of 100 or an environmentally acceptable lubricant (EAL) with a viscosity grade of 100 or 150 is investigated according to the ISO standard. Bearing wear is simulated by increasing the clearance circle by 0.1 mm. According to the results obtained, the use of an EAL in place of mineral oil does not cause significant changes in the bearing performance, regardless of the value of the clearance radius. The pressure distribution in the oil film, bearing load carrying capacity, eccentricity and friction coefficient have similar values for the entire load and speed ranges considered, and the discrepancies in the results are within the range of the measurement errors. Only an increase in EAL viscosity causes significant changes in bearing performance and these changes comply with the general theory of lubrication.
