Opis:
TLR stimulation in chickens has been shown to play a role in the initiation and regulation of innate and adaptive immune responses. The aim of this study was to use flow cytometry to establish the percentage of T and B subset in blood and lymphoid organs in chicks after CpG oligodeoxynucleotide (ODN) stimulation. It was demonstrated that the percentages of CD3⁺, CD4⁺, TCRγ δ⁺ cells and Bu-1⁺MHC class II⁺ cells in blood 24 h post-injection were significantly higher than in the control groups. It was also shown that the percentages of CD3⁺ and CD4⁺ cells in the spleen at 48 h post-injection were significantly higher than in control groups. The percentage of Bu-1⁺ cells in the bursa of Fabricius after CpG ODN stimulation (98.38 ± 0.84) was significantly higher than that found in the non-CpG ODN control group (94.54 ± 2.51) (p ≤ 0.05). The results indicate that class B CpG ODN increases the percentage of both T (especially CD4⁺ cells) and B cells.

Opis:
As it contains elements of complete digital impedance meter, the AD5933 integrated circuit is an interesting solution for impedance measurements. However, its use for measurements in a wide range of impedances and frequencies requires an additional digital and analogue circuitry. This paper presents the design and performance of a simple impedance meter based on the AD5933 IC. Apart from the AD5933 IC it consists of a clock generator with a programmable prescaler, a novel DC offset canceller for the excitation signal based on peak detectors and a current to voltage converter with switchable conversion ratios. The authors proposed a simple method for choosing the measurement frequency to minimalize errors resulting from the spectral leakage and distortion caused by a lack of an anti-aliasing filter in the DDS generator. Additionally, a novel method for the AD5933 IC calibration was proposed. It consists in a mathematical compensation of the systematic error occurring in the argument of the value returned from the AD5933 IC as a result. The performance of the whole system is demonstrated in an exemplary measurement.

Opis:
Special cells made of austenitic steel were employed to carry out accelerated tests of lining materials in the autoclave at elevated temperature and at a pressure gradient along the sample’s thickness. The tests were carried out on three kinds of rubber linings: prevulcanized soft two-ply lining based on bromobutyl rubber, selfvulcanizing two-ply lining based on bromobutyl rubber and prevulcanized lining based on chlorobutyl rubber. Distilled water, 1 % aqueous solution of HCl and aqueous solution containing 50 g/dm3 of sulphuric acid and 26 g/dm3 of sodium bisulphate (IV) were used as the working medium in the tests. The temperature of the working medium in the autoclave was kept at 110±2°C and the sample exposure time amounted to 48 hours. The change in the mass of the samples after the proper time of exposure in the autoclave was determined by the gravimetric method. A measuring system made up of an Agilent 4294A high-frequency impedance analyzer and a low-frequency impedance analyzer with a Keithley 428 current/voltage transducer was used to perform measurements in a frequency range from 0.1 mHz to 10 MHz at activation with an voltage amplitude of 1 V[RMS]. The impedance measurement results show that despite the severe corrosive conditions in the autoclave and the gain in the mass of the samples, the tested coating materials did not undergo significant degradation during their exposure and keep good dielectric and protective properties.

Opis:
The suitability of low-cost impedance sensors for microbiological purposes and biofilm growth monitoring was evaluated. The sensors with interdigitated electrodes were fabricated in PCB and LTCC technologies. The electrodes were golden (LTCC) or gold-plated (PCB) to provide surface stability. The sensors were used for monitoring growth and degradation of the reference ATCC 15442 Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain biofilm in invitro setting. During the experiment, the impedance spectra of the sensors were measured and analysed using electrical equivalent circuit (EEC) modelling. Additionally, the process of adhesion and growth of bacteria on a sensor’s surface was assessed by means of the optical and SEM microscopy. EEC and SEM microscopic analysis revealed that the gold layer on copper electrodes was not tight, making the PCB sensors susceptible to corrosion while the LTCC sensors had good surface stability. It turned out that the LTCC sensors are suitable for monitoring pseudomonal biofilm and the PCB sensors are good detectors of ongoing stages of biofilm formation.

Opis:
The work focused on forecasting changes in lake water level. The study employed the Triple Diagram Method (TDM) using geostatistical tools. TDM estimates the value by information from an earlier two periods of observation, refers as lags. The best results were obtained for data with an average a 1-week lag. At the significance level of 1σ, a the forecast error of ±2 cm was obtained. Using separate data for warm and cold months did not improve the efficiency of TDM. At the same time, analysis of observations from warm and cold months explained trends visible in the distribution of year-round data. The methodology, built on case study and proposed evaluation criteria, may function as a universal solution. The proposed methodology can be used to effectively manage water-level fluctuations both in postglacial lakes and in any case of water-level fluctuation.

The research objective was to determine whether and to what extent SAR data can be used to determine changes in the water level in small glacial lakes (with an area of ~1 km2). The research object was Lake Biskupińskie – a small post-glacial lake in central Poland. As part of the research, a methodology for determining water level in small-area lakes based on radar data was developed, the potential for determining lake water levels using high- and medium-resolution SAR data was determined, and the results were verified against field measurements. The analyses employed data from two satellites, TerraSAR-X and Sentinel-1. The research confirmed the effectiveness of using SAR data to determine water-level fluctuations in small glacial lakes. The proposed methodology for working with data from the Sentinel-1 satellite allows for accurate estimation of WLF based on the results of interferometric analyses. Comparative analysis of the radar data results (lake surface) and field measurements (water level) were fully consistent with the data from TerraSAR-X and partially consistent with the data from Sentinel-1. The methodology of radar data analysis to determine WLF proposed in the paper has major research and applied potential, especially in the reconstruction of historical lake water levels.

Opis:
Electric arc is a complex phenomenon occurring during the current interruption process in the power system. Therefore performing digital simulations is often necessary to analyse transient conditions in power system during switching operations. This paper deals with the electric arc modelling and its implementation in simulation software for transient analyses during switching conditions in power system. Cassie, Cassie-Mayr as well as Schwarz-Avdonin equations describing the behaviour of the electric arc during the current interruption process have been implemented in EMTP-ATP simulation software and presented in this paper. The models developed have been used for transient simulations to analyse impact of the particular model and its parameters on Transient Recovery Voltage in different switching scenarios: during shunt reactor switching-off as well as during capacitor bank current switching-off. The selected simulation cases represent typical practical scenarios for inductive and capacitive currents breaking, respectively.

Opis:
Physicochemical properties of different oxide systems depend mostly on the method of their preparation and classification, so the main aim of the study was to obtain the MgO·SiO2 hybrid in an aqueous solution and its calcination under assumed conditions. Research scope included evaluation of the effect of the basic parameters of the calcination process (time and temperature) on the structural properties of the final materials. Products obtained by the proposed method were thoroughly characterized. The chemical composition, crystalline structure, morphology and nature of the dispersion as well as parameters of the porous structure were established. The results of research in a decisive manner confirmed the possibility of designing the properties of inorganic oxide systems such as MgO·SiO2, which will definitively scheduled into potential directions for their use.

The authors wrote their subjective memoirs and then analyzed them using a collective autoethnography method in order to find the similarities and differences between their experiences. The results reveal some consistent patterns in experience that are captured in two metaphors: Falling apart and Bouncing back. “Falling apart” involves the breakdown of daily lives during the initial stages of the pandemic, shown through subjective quotes contextualized through the authors’ commentary. The consensus is that returning home and the transition to remote education were the two main reasons for the breakdown. “Bouncing back” encompasses the authors’ recovery after the initial breakdown, achieved by acquiring new information about the virus, discovering how to continue their hobbies at home, such as working out or dancing, and learning to adjust exam expectations. At the educational level, the bioethics course, which guided students through the ethical dilemmas of the pandemic, played an important role in the recovery/bouncing back process. For that reason, we report on how it was to learn about and teach this subject during the pandemic, and how bioethics knowledge was applied for better understanding and coping with some of the moral dilemmas related to the pandemic. The study testifies to the importance of bioethics education during a pandemic and explains how this can contribute to shaping the moral resilience of future medical practitioners.

Opis:
Hydroxyapatite is used as a matrix for immobilization of protease from Aspergillus oryzae by a process of adsorption. The matrix obtained has the surface area of 26 m2/g and particles in the shape of flakes of diameters no greater than 650 nm. The efficiency of the proposed method was confirmed by the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis and by analysis of parameters of the pore structure of matrix and products after immobilization. On the basis of the Bradford method it was found that the greatest amount of enzyme (132 mg/g) was immobilized from a solution of initial enzyme concentration of 7 mg/cm3 after 24 h of the process.

The CHIFAR experiment, carried out at Laboratori Nazionali del Sud-INFN (INFN-LNS), was proposed to investigate the emission probability of Intermediate Mass Fragments (IMFs) in non-central Heavy Ion (HI) collisions. The aim was the study of the features of the Equation of State of the nuclear matter, focusing also on the role of the isospin degree of freedom of the colliding nuclei. The CHIMERA Collaboration has investigated at the incident beam energy of 20 AMeV some nuclear reactions including: $^{124}$Sn + $^{64}$Ni, $^{112}$Sn + $^{58}$Ni and $^{124}$Xe + $^{64}$Zn. The experimental setup was equipped with ten telescopes of the FARCOS (Femtoscope ARray for COrrelation and Spectroscopy) correlator in its final configuration, coupled with the 4$\pi$ CHIMERA multi-detector allowing the study of correlations among IMFs and light charged particles produced in a nuclear reaction. The results on the energy calibration, on the energy resolution and on the particle identification phase of the FARCOS correlator used in the CHIFAR experiment are reported. The so-called "pixelation technique" is the last step of the analysis explained here.

Opis:
The CHIFAR experiment, carried out at Laboratori Nazionali del Sud-INFN, aims to study the reaction mechanisms and Intermediate Mass Fragments (IMFs) emission probability in non-central Heavy-Ion collisions. These phenomena are linked to the features of the Equation of State of the nuclear matter, and shine light also on the role of the isospin degree of freedom of the colliding nuclei. In the CHIFAR experiment, nuclear reactions at incident beam energy of 20 AMeV were investigated using different combinations of beams: $^{124}$Sn, $^{112}$Sn and $^{124}$Xe, and targets: $^{64}$Ni, $^{58}$Ni and $^{64}$Zn, in order to study combinations of neutron-rich and neutron-poor systems. The experimental setup was equipped with ten telescopes of the FARCOS correlator, coupled with the 4π CHIMERA multi-detector. This coupling allowed the study of the correlations between IMFs and light charged particles emitted in a nuclear reaction. The results on the energy calibration, on the energy resolution and on the identification of the detected particles by FARCOS correlator used in the CHIFAR experiment are explained. Some preliminary results regarding the physics cases studied in the experiment are also reported.

Opis:
Data from an experiment on the ^{197}Au+^{197}Au reaction at 23AMeV are analyzed with an aim to find signatures of exotic nuclear configurations such as toroid-shaped objects. The experimental data are compared with predictions of the etna code, dedicated to look for such configurations, and with the quantum molecular dynamics (QMD) model. A novel criterion of selecting events possibly resulting from the formation of exotic freeze-out configurations, "the efficiency factor", is tested. Comparison between experimental data and model predictions may indicate the formation of flat and/or toroidal nuclear systems.

Opis:
Ternary partitions of the ^{197}Au+^{197}Au system in collisions at 23 A MeV beam energy have been studied. It is observed that the mass number distribution of the lightest fragments, called intermediate mass fragments (IMF), extends up to mass numbers corresponding to partitions into three comparable fragments. The lightest IMFs of A_{IFM} < 20 show well known features of prompt emission originating from the interaction zone (neck) during reseparation. Heavier IMFs (of A_{IFM} > 30) definitely originate from sequential (but not equilibrated) decay of the primary projectile-like fragments (PLF*) (or target-like fragments (TLF*)). The decaying system evidently keeps memory of the neck configuration and consequently the IMFs are emitted collinearly either from the neck side or from the opposite side along the separation axis (polar emission). The new intriguing process of the polar emission dominates for IMFs of A_{IMF} > 50.

Opis:
Semi-peripheral collisions of ^{64}Ni + ^{124}Sn in direct and inverse kinematics, at 35 A MeV incident energy, are studied to characterize the dynamical origin and align-ments properties of fragments emission at midrapidity. This emission is partly due to the fragmentation of a transient neck joining the projectile and target in the early stages of the reaction. Recently we exploited observable from neck fragmentation to constraint the density dependence of the symmetry energy. In this contribution we focus on the density evolution of the mid-rapidity source. An experimental survey is suggested to check if data are consistent with the formation of neck fragments in a dilute density region in contact with the projectile-like and target-like spectators at normal saturation density.

Opis:
High-precision measurements of flow coefficients v$_{n}$ (n = 1 - 4) for protons, deuterons and tritons relative to the first-order spectator plane have been performed in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 2.4 GeV with the High-Acceptance Di-Electron Spectrometer (HADES) at the SIS18/GSI. Flow coefficients are studied as a function of transverse momentum p$_{t}$ and rapidity y$_{cm}$ over a large region of phase-space and for several classes of collision centrality. A clear mass hierarchy, as expected by relativistic hydrodynamics, is found for the slope of v$_{1}$, dv$_{1}$ / dy' |$_{y'=0}$ where y' is the scaled rapidity, and for v$_{2}$ at mid-rapidity. Scaling with the number of nucleons is observed for the p$_{t}$ dependence of v$_{2}$ and v$_{4}$ at mid-rapidity, which is indicative for nuclear coalescence as the main process responsible for light nuclei formation. v$_{2}$ is found to scale with the initial eccentricity $\left< \epsilon_{2} \right>$, while v$_{4}$ scales with $\left< \epsilon_{2} \right>^{2}$ and $\left< \epsilon_{4} \right>$. The multi-differential high-precision data on v$_{1}$, v$_{2}$, v$_{3}$, and v$_{4}$ provides important constraints on the equation-of-state of compressed baryonic matter.

Opis:
In nuclear collisions the incident protons generate a Coulomb field which acts on produced charged particles. The impact of these interactions on charged-pion transverse-mass and rapidity spectra, as well as on pion–pion momentum correlations is investigated in Au + Au collisions at $\sqrt{^{S}NN}$ = 2.4 GeV. We show that the low-m$_{t}$ region (m$_{t}$ < 0.2 GeV / c$^{2}$) can be well described with a Coulomb-modified Boltzmann distribution that also takes changes of the Coulomb field during the expansion of the fireball into account. The observed centrality dependence of the fitted mean Coulomb potential energy deviates strongly from a $A_{part}^{2/3}$ scaling, indicating that, next to the fireball, the non-interacting charged spectators have to be taken into account. For the most central collisions, the Coulomb modifications of the HBT source radii are found to be consistent with the potential extracted from the single-pion transverse-mass distributions. This finding suggests that the region of homogeneity obtained from two-pion correlations coincides with the region in which the pions freeze-out. Using the inferred mean-square radius of the charge distribution at freeze-out, we have deduced a baryon density, in fair agreement with values obtained from statistical hadronization model fits to the particle yields.

Opis:
Hadron production ($\pi^{\pm}$, proton, $\Lambda, K^{0}_{S}, K^{\pm}$) in $\pi^{-}$ + C and $\pi^{-}$ + W collisions is investigated at an incident pion beam momentum of 1.7 GeV/c. This comprehensive set of data measured with HADES at SIS18/GSI significantly extends the existing world data on hadron production in pion induced reactions and provides a new reference for models that are commonly used for the interpretation of heavy-ion collisions. The measured inclusive differential production cross-sections are compared with state-of-the-art transport model (GiBUU, SMASH) calculations. The (semi-) exclusive channel $\pi^{-}$ + A $\to \Lambda$ + $K^{0}_{S}$ + X, in which the kinematics of the strange hadrons are correlated, is also investigated and compared to a model calculation. Agreement and remaining tensions between data and the current version of the considered transport models are discussed.

Opis:
Background: In heavy-ion collisions at intermediate energies the production of light charged particles and intermediate mass fragments (IMFs) is due to different reaction mechanisms and different time scales, ranging from fast dynamical processes to statistical emission from the equilibrated system. Purpose: We compare the IMF statistical and dynamical emission probabilities in collisions of a neutron-rich ^{124}Sn + ^{64}Ni system and a neutron-poor ^{112}Sn + ^{58}Ni system at the laboratory energy of 35 A MeV. Method: The IMFs production mechanism in semiperipheral reactions has been investigated in our previous works. In this paper, the analysis is expanded for the same set of data and production cross sections have been evaluated for dynamical and statistical emission in a coherent way for light and heavy fragments. Results: The data analysis has evidenced a strong competition between dynamical and statistical emission mechanisms. Probability of the dynamical emission of IMFs is strongly influenced by the (N/Z) ratio of the colliding system. Conclusions: It is demonstrated that the statistical emission is equally probable for the two systems, while the dynamical emission is enhanced for the neutron-rich system, especially for heavy fragments (Z≥6). The observed effect points at a high sensitivity of the prompt-dynamical emission to the (N/Z) ratio of a given system.

Opis:
The global polarization of Λ hyperons along the total orbital angular momentum of a relativistic heavy-ion collision is presented based on the high statistics data samples collected in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{^{s}NN}$ = 2.4 GeV and Ag+Ag at 2.55 GeV with the High-Acceptance Di-Electron Spectrometer (HADES) at GSI, Darmstadt. This is the first measurement below the strangeness production threshold in nucleon-nucleon collisions. Results are reported as a function of the collision centrality as well as a function of the hyperon's transverse momentum (p_{T}) and rapidity (y_{CM}) for the range of centrality 0–40%. We observe a strong centrality dependence of the polarization with an increasing signal towards peripheral collisions. For mid-central (20 – 40%) collisions the polarization magnitudes are $\left< P_{\Lambda}\right>$ (%) = 6.8 $\pm$ 1.3 (stat.) $\pm$ 2.1 (syst.) for Au+Au and $\left< P_{\Lambda}\right>$ (%) = 6.2 $\pm$ 0.4 (stat.) $\pm$ 0.6 (syst.) for Ag+Ag, which are the largest values observed so far. This observation thus provides a continuation of the increasing trend previously observed by STAR and contrasts expectations from recent theoretical calculations predicting a maximum in the region of collision energies about 3 GeV. The observed polarization is of a similar magnitude as predicted by 3D-fluid-dynamics and the UrQMD plus thermal vorticity model and significantly above results from the AMPT model.

Opis:
We present a new experimental method to correlate the isotopic composition of intermediate mass fragments (IMF) emitted at midrapidity in semiperipheral collisions with the emission timescale: IMFs emitted in the early stage of the reaction show larger values of ⟨N/Z⟩ isospin asymmetry, stronger angular anisotropies, and reduced odd-even staggering effects in neutron to proton ratio ⟨N/Z⟩ distributions than those produced in sequential statistical emission. All these effects support the concept of isospin “migration”, that is sensitive to the density gradient between participant and quasispectator nuclear matter, in the so called neck fragmentation mechanism. By comparing the data to a stochastic mean field (SMF) simulation we show that this method gives valuable constraints on the symmetry energy term of nuclear equation of state at subsaturation densities. An indication emerges for a linear density dependence of the symmetry energy.

Opis:
The production of $\Sigma^{0}$ hyperons in proton proton collisions at a beam kinetic energy of 3.5 GeV impinging on a liquid hydrogen target was investigated using data collected with the HADES setup. The total production cross section is found to be $\sigma(pK^{+} \Sigma^{0})$ = 17.7 $\pm$ 1.7(stat) $\pm$ 1.6(syst) μb. Differential cross section distributions of the exclusive channel $pp \to pK^{+} \Sigma^{0}$ were analyzed in the center-of-mass, Gottfried–Jackson and helicity reference frames for the first time at the excess energy of 556 MeV. The data support the interplay between pion and kaon exchange mechanisms and clearly demonstrate the contribution of interfering nucleon resonances decaying to $K^{+} \Sigma^{0}$. The Bonn–Gatchina partial wave analysis was employed to analyse the data. Due to the limited statistics, it was not possible to obtain an unambiguous determination of the relative contribution of intermediate nucleon resonances to the final state. However nucleon resonances with masses around 1.710 GeV/c$^{2}$ (N* (1710)) and 1.900 GeV/c$^{2}$ N* (1900) or $\Delta$* (1900)) are preferred by the fit.

Opis:
The Compressed Baryonic Matter (CBM) experiment at the future Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) is a heavy-ion experiment designed to study nuclear matter at the highest baryonic density. For high-statistics measurements of rare probes, collision rates of up to 10 MHz are targeted. The experiment, therefore, requires fast and radiation-hard detectors, self-triggered detector front-ends, free-streaming readout architecture, and online event reconstruction. The Silicon Tracking System (STS) is the main tracking detector of CBM, designed to reconstruct the trajectories of charged particles with efficiency larger than 95%, a relative momentum uncertainty better than 2% for particle momenta larger than 1 GeV/c inside a 1 Tm magnetic field, and to identify complex decay topologies. It comprises 876 double-sided silicon strip modules arranged in 8 tracking stations. A prototype of this detector, consisting of 12 modules arranged in three tracking stations, is installed in the mini-CBM demonstrator. This experimental setup is a small-scale precursor to the full CBM detector, composed of sub-units of all major CBM systems installed on the SIS18 beamline. In various beam campaigns taken between 2021 and 2024, heavy ion collisions at 1–2 AGeV with an average collision rate of 500 kHz have been recorded. This allows for the evaluation of the operational performance of the STS detector, including signal-to-noise ratio, charge distribution, time and position resolution, hit reconstruction efficiency, and its potential for track and vertex reconstruction.

Opis:
The goal of the FAZIA Collaboration is the design of a new-generation $4\pi$ detector array for heavy-ion collisions with radioactive beams. This article summarizes the main results of the R&D phase, devoted to the search for significant improvements of the techniques for charge and mass identification of reaction products. This was obtained by means of a systematic study of the basic detection module, consisting of two transmission-mounted silicon detectors followed by a CsI(Tl) scintillator. Significant improvements in $\Delta$ E-E and pulse-shape techniques were obtained by controlling the doping homogeneity and the cutting angles of silicon and by putting severe constraints on thickness uniformity. Purposely designed digital electronics contributed to identification quality. The issue of possible degradation related to radiation damage of silicon was also addressed. The experimental activity was accompanied by studies on the physics governing signal evolution in silicon. The good identification quality obtained with the prototypes during the R&D phase, allowed us to investigate also some aspects of isospin physics, namely isospin transport and odd-even staggering. Now, after the conclusion of the R&D period, the FAZIA Collaboration has entered the demonstrator phase, with the aim of verifying the applicability of the devised solutions for the realization of a larger-scale experimental set-up.
