Yasser Arafat is one of the key figures of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that has been ongoing since 1940s, as well as one of the most influent Near East's leaders of that time. For the past few decades the Palestinian issue has been the main affair of the conflict raging in this region. Thanks to his contribution to the Al-Fatah movement that he created and further thanks to his activity as the leader of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Arafat had been in the eye of the storm, being a part of the conflict's most important events. It is not possible to understand Palestinian people's history and their dreams referring life in an independent country without taking a look at the biography of their leader, who started off his political career in Egypt and later carried it on in Kuwait, Jordan, Lebanon, Tunisiaand finally in the Gaza Strip.The first part of the thesis refers to Arafat's early years, shaping his political identity, the results of his student activity, moving from Egypt to Kuwait and founding the Al-Fatah movement. Chapter two describes the process of taking over the control of the Palestine Liberation Organization by Arafat, his activity in Jordan and Lebanon, the outbreak of the first Palestinian Intifada as well as the declaration of independence. The third part comprises of the issues of implementation of the peace process, the context of receiving the Nobel Peace Prize and taking the post of the president of the Palestinian Autonomy by Arafat. It also describes establishing the interrelations between the both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the 1990s. The closing part contains informations about the Al-Aqsa Intifada, it refers to losing the control over the course of peace negotiations by Arafat and the last years running up to his death in Paris on the 11th of March 2004.This leader's biography enables us to understand how difficult it is to solve the Israeli-Palestinian issue and encourages us to raise a question about their future, taking the past into account. The analysis of Arafat's history of life may also give hope that his actions will result in drawing certain conclusions by present Palestinian leaders, making them understand what lead to the mistakes he made during the peace negotiations and therefore, preventing their occurence in the future.
Jaser Arafat to jedna z kluczowych postaci w trwającym od lat 40. XX wieku sporze izraelsko-palestyńskim i jeden z najbardziej wpływowych w tym okresie przywódców na Bliskim Wschodzie. To właśnie kwestia palestyńska od dziesięcioleci jest głównym elementem rozgrywającego się w regionie konfliktu, a Arafat poprzez działalność najpierw w założonym przez siebie ruchu Al-Fatah, a później stojąc na czele Organizacji Wyzwolenia Palestyny znalazł się w centrum najważniejszych jego wydarzeń. Zrozumienie losów narodu palestyńskiego i jego marzeń związanych z samodzielną państwowością nie jest możliwe bez przyjrzenia się osobistej biografii jego przywódcy, który swoją polityczną karierę rozpoczął w Egipcie, by na dobre kontynuować ją w kolejnych dekadach w Kuwejcie, Jordanii, Libanie, Tunezji i ostatecznie w Strefie Gazy.W pierwszej części pracy ujęte zostały kwestie związane z wczesnymi latami życia, kształtowaniem się jego politycznej tożsamości, skutkami prowadzonej działalności studenckiej, wyjazdem z Egiptu do Kuwejtu i założeniem ruchu Al-Fatah. Drugi z rozdziałów opisuje przejęcie przez niego kontroli nad Organizacją Wyzwolenia Palestyny, jego losy w Jordanii oraz Libanie, wybuch pierwszej palestyńskiej Intifady i proklamację niepodległości. Rozdział trzeci to realizacja procesu pokojowego, kontekst przyznania mu pokojowej Nagrody Nobla, objęcie przez niego posady prezydenta Autonomii Palestyńskiej i opis kształtowania się stosunków obu stron konfliktu w latach 90. Część ostatnią stanowią natomiast informacje na temat Intifady Al-Aksa, utraty przez Arafata kontroli nad przebiegiem negocjacji pokojowych oraz ostatnich lat życia, aż do śmierci 11 listopada 2004 roku w Paryżu.Historia tego przywódcy pozwala zrozumieć jak trudnym do rozwiązania problemem jest kwestia izraelsko-palestyńskich stosunków oraz zadać pytanie o ich przyszłość, biorąc pod uwagę bagaż wieloletnich doświadczeń. Jej analiza powinna także dawać pewną nadzieję na wyciągnięcie z działań Arafata konkretnych wniosków, zrozumienie podstaw popełnionych przez niego błędów rzutujących na losy procesu pokojowego oraz uniknięcie ich przez jego następców.

Praca magisterska dotyczy szeroko rozumianego prawa prasowego w odniesieniu do nowoczesnych, współczesnych mediów funkcjonujących w Internecie. Stara się ona odnaleźć odpowiedź na pytanie o prawne uwarunkowania funkcjonowania portali internetowych i prasy w Internecie. Jest analizą prawa prasowego oraz licznego orzecznictwa w zakresie stosowania prawa prasowego do internetowych serwisów informacyjnych, spełniających wymogi prasy w świetle prawa prasowego. Osiągnięte w pracy wnioski nakazują uznać, iż w świetle obowiązującego prawa prasowego, przy spełnieniu odpowiednich ustawowych wymogów formalnych, należy dopuścić możliwość funkcjonowania prasy w Internecie. Dzięki temu stwierdzeniu, dziennikarze pracujący w redakcjach mediów internetowych, mogą korzystać z pełni praw i obowiązków, jakie przysługują dziennikarzom mediów tradycyjnych (gazet drukowanych, radia czy telewizji). Praca w odpowiedniej części jest również analizą innych możliwych form prowadzenia działalności dziennikarskiej w Internecie (blogi internetowe, fora dyskusyjne).
Master's thesis concerns the broad sense of the press law in relation to modern, contemporary media operating on the Internet. It tries to find the answer to the question about the legal conditions of Internet media. It is an analysis of press law and judicature on the application of the press law to online information services that meet the requirements of the press under the press law. The conclusions reached in the work require consider that in the light of the current press law, subject to the relevant legal formalities, should be allowed the functioning of the press in the Internet.

Opis:
The article provides an overview of Brain Computer Interface (BCI) solutions for intelligent buildings. A significant topic from the smart cities point of view. That solution could be implemented as one of the human-building interfaces. The authors presented an analysis of the use of BCI in specific building systems. The article presents an analysis of BCI solutions in the context of controlling devices/systems included in the Building Management System (BMS). The Article confirms the possibility of using this method of communication between the user and the building’s central unit. Despite many confirmations of repeatable device inspections, the article presents the challenges faced by the commercialization of the solution in buildings.

Wielkie zbiory danych typu Big Data są obecnie nieodłącznym elementem badań w wielu dziedzinach nauki – w tym w geografii społeczno-ekonomicznej. Znajdują one szereg zastosowań, zarówno wnosząc możliwość analizy nowych danych w klasycznych problemach badawczych, jak i same w sobie będąc nowym przedmiotem badań oraz pozwalając na badanie cyfrowych geografii. Jednocześnie Big Data krytykuje się za niejednorodność, brak reprezentatywności, nierówność reprezentacji czy też problemy etyczne. Z tego powodu zwracamy uwagę na szereg dylematów związanych z obecnością Big Data w praktyce badawczej, sugerując istotną rolę krytycznego podejścia do ich zastosowania w praktyce badawczej.
Big Data are inseparable part of the current research methodology in many scientific disciplines – including socio-economic geography. They are being used as a new data in old research problems, as a new research objects and as a means to investigate digital geographies. Big Data are being criticized for lack of representativeness and problematic representation, heterogeneity, and ethical issues. Despite these problems, their presence as a part of the geographical research methodology is increasingly frequent. We propose a set of recommendations that in our view allows a researcher to critically assess the validity of utilizing Big Data in a given research project.

Blast mitigation continues to be a popular field of research when military vehicles are concerned. The main problem is coping with the vehicle global motion consequences following an explosion. The paper presents a potential application of the linear vacuum packed particle (VPP) damper as a supplementation for a viscous shock absorber in a traditional blast mitigation seat design. The paper also presents field test results for the underbelly blast explosion, comparing them to the laboratory tests carried out on the impact bench. To collect accelerations, the anthropomorphic test device, i.e. the Hybrid III dummy, was used. A set of numerical simulations of the modified blast mitigation seat with the additional VPP linear damper were revealed. The VPP damper was modeled according to the Johnson–Cook model of viscoplasticity. The Hertzian contact theory was adopted to model the contact between the vehicle and the ground. The reduction of the dynamic response index (DRI) in the case of the VPP damper application was also proved.

Influence of bariatric surgery on erectile dysfunction-a systematic review and meta-analysis

Introduction: Obesity is associated with a higher prevalence of various comorbidities including erectile dysfunction (ED). Bariatric surgery leads to weight loss and remission of weight-related diseases. The exact influence of bariatric treatment on ED is yet to be established; however, the number of papers on the subject is growing. Methodology: A systematic review with meta-analysis comparing erectile dysfunction before and after surgery was conducted according to PRISMA guidelines with a literature search performed in June 2022. Inclusion criteria involved (1) ED assessment using the International International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) and (2) longitudinal study design. Secondary endpoints involved hormonal changes and specific fields of IIEF. Results: An initial search yielded 878 records. Fourteen studies were included in the meta-analysis involving 508 patients. The quality of analyzed studies was moderate. Analysis showed significant differences in IIEF before and after surgery (Std. MD = 1.19, 95% CI 0.72 to 1.66, p<0.0001). Testosterone after surgery is higher by 156.32 pg/ml (95% CI 84.78 to 227.86, p<0.0001). There were differences in erectile function (MD:4.86, p < 0.0001), desire (MD: 1.21, p < 0.0001), intercourse satisfaction (MD: 2.16, p < 0.0001), and overall satisfaction (MD: 1.21, p = 0.003). There were no differences in terms of orgasms (MD: 0.65, p = 0.06). Conclusion: There are differences in ED before and after bariatric surgery. Patients achieve 19% more in the IIEF questionnaire showing improvement. Further studies, including multivariate regression models on large cohorts, are required to determine whether the surgery is an independent factor in alleviating ED.
