Opis:
The present work analyses the diachronic corpora of Spanish available to date, paying especial attention to the scarce representation of the spoken language in them. Although it is true that the creation of diachronic corpora of Spanish has progressed significantly over the last forty years, there is still room for improvement, especially as regards peninsular Spanish, as well as the inclusion of documents that allow diatopic, diaphasic and diastratic analyses from the diachronic perspective. This piece of research provides data from three English diachronic corpora along these lines, which might be taken as a point of departure for the creation of similar tools in Spanish.

Opis:
The necropolis from Jebel al Khudairah, located in the Central Region of the Emirate of Sharjah (United Arab Emirates) witnessed excavations in 2020 and 2023 from members of the Spanish Archaeological and Archaeobiological Mission at Sharjah, drawn from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. In this paper we present a preliminary overview of the results from these two field seasons after completing excavations of five tombs of very diverse types, located in several sectors of the jebel. Only one of them provided remains of burials of at least two individuals accompanied by a metal arrowhead. Nevertheless, the preliminary comparative analysis of the architecture of the structures as well as of the only datable find, allows one to make some suggestions concerning the chronological span of the necropolis.

Opis:
The surface of CMK-3 carbon, synthesized by the reversible replication of mesoporous silica (SBA-15) using poly(furfuryl alcohol) as a carbon precursor, was activated by wet oxidation with an aqueous solution of HNO3 or H2O2. The process was performed at 50 °C using solution containing different concentrations of the oxidizing agent. It was found that during the modification no significant changes in textural and structural properties of CMK-3 replica occurred. However, the treatment resulted in the formation of appreciable amounts of surface species containing oxygen. XPS and DRIFT spectroscopy allowed to identify and quantify the surface functional groups. Their stability was studied by TG-FTIR measurements. CO and CO2 were found as main gaseous products evolved during thermal decomposition under inert atmosphere. Finally, the modified samples were tested in the catalytic oxidative dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene to styrene at 350 °C in the presence of oxygen as an oxidizing agent (at O2/ethylbenzene molar ratio of 1.0 and 3.0). At the beginning of the catalytic run, the highest styrene yield and selectivity was achieved at the lower O2 content over the catalysts treated with nitric acid. Nevertheless, all studied catalysts underwent a gradual deactivation due to coke formation and changes in the distribution of surface moieties.

A simplified route to the synthesis of CMK-3 replica based on precipitation polycondensation of furfuryl alcohol in SBA-15 pore system

Opis:
A novel method of synthesis of mesoporous, polymer-derived CMK-3 carbon replica was proposed. Instead of a multi-stage, time-consuming and toxic solvent involving procedure, the direct, acid-catalyzed precipitation polycondensation of furfuryl alcohol to poly(furfuryl alcohol) (PFA), as the carbon precursor, in the pore system of SBA-15 silica was used. The optimal PFA/SBA-15 mass ratio resulting in the complete pore filling was found. The final carbon material was obtained by carbonization of the formed composite and subsequent removal of silica by treatment with HF. Low-temperature sorption of nitrogen, powder X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy confirmed the formation of well-ordered, hexagonal carbon mesostructure. The produced CMK-3 exhibited the presence of oxygen-containing surface groups, recognized as mainly carbonyl and carboxyl species by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and temperature-programmed desorption. The presence ofthese groups caused the mesoporous carbon to be catalytically active in the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene to styrene.

Opis:
Objectives: To determine the incidence of smell and taste disorders in our health department and to analyse the factors that could be associated with these symptoms in patients with COVID-19. Methods: We conducted an observational descriptive study of all patients with COVID-19 in our health area diagnosed between 2020/03/10 and 2020/04/14. Factors related to smell and taste disorders were analysed. Results: A total of 126 patients, 63 women and 63 men, aged 16–80 years, were included. As many as 69 patients (62.7%) presented hyposmia, and 58 (46%) of them had anosmia. A total of 75 patients (59.5%) presented hypogeusia, and 57 (45.2%) of them had ageusia. The risk factors that were most commonly associated with these disorders were the female sex (adjusted odds ratio, aOR 2.43 for smell disorders and 2.44 for taste disorders), allergic rhinitis (aOR 3.34 for smell disorders) and a younger age. A protective factor was arterial hypertension (aOR 0.51 for smell disorders and 0.35 for taste disorders). A history of tonsillectomy was the risk factor for taste disorder (aOR 5.23). Conclusion: Our results indicate that these sensory disorders occurred more frequently in female patients and in young patients with mild to moderate COVID-19 infection who progressed with mild nasal congestion, posterior rhinorrhoea and without anterior rhinorrhoea. The recovery of taste occurred before the recovery of smell.

Opis:
Photometric observations of the cataclysmic variable EQ Lyn (SDSS J074531.92+453829.6), acquired from 2005 October to 2006 January, revealed high-amplitude variability in the range 1166-1290 s. This accreting white dwarf underwent an outburst in 2006 October, during which its brightness increased by at least five magnitudes, and it started exhibiting superhumps in its light curve. Upon cooling to quiescence, the superhumps disappeared and it displayed the same periods in 2010 February as prior to the outburst within the uncertainties of a couple of seconds. This behavior suggests that the observed variability is likely due to nonradial pulsations in the white dwarf star, whose core structure has not been significantly affected by the outburst. The enigmatic observations begin with an absence of pulsational variability during a multi-site campaign conducted in 2011 January-February without any evidence of a new outburst; the light curve is instead dominated by superhumps with periods in the range of 83-87 minutes. Ultraviolet Hubble Space Telescope time-series spectroscopy acquired in 2011 March reveals an effective temperature of 15,400 K, placing EQ Lyn within the broad instability strip of 10,500-16,000 K for accreting pulsators. The ultraviolet light curve with 90% flux from the white dwarf shows no evidence of any pulsations. Optical photometry acquired during 2011 and Spring 2012 continues to reflect the presence of superhumps and an absence of pulsations. Subsequent observations acquired in 2012 December and 2013 January finally indicate the disappearance of superhumps and the return of pulsational variability with similar periods as previous data. However, our most recent data from 2013 March to May reveal superhumps yet again with no sign of pulsations. We speculate that this enigmatic post-outburst behavior of the frequent disappearance of pulsational variability in EQ Lyn is caused either by heating the white dwarf beyond the instability strip due to an elevated accretion rate, disrupting pulsations associated with the He II instability strip by lowering the He abundance of the convection zone, free geometric precession of the entire system, or appearing and disappearing disk pulsations.
