Opis:
Multi-objective optimization (MOO) considers several objectives to find a feasible set of solutions. Selecting a solution from Pareto frontier (PF) solutions requires further effort. This work proposes a new classification procedure that fits into the analytic hierarchy Process (AHP) to pick the best solution. The method classifies PF solutions using pairwise comparison matrices for each objective. Sectorization is the problem of splitting a region into smaller sectors based on multiple objectives. The efficacy of the proposed method is tested in such problems using our instances and real data from a Portuguese delivery company. A non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) is used to obtain PF solutions based on three objectives. The proposed method rapidly selects an appropriate solution. The method was assessed by comparing it with a method based on a weighted composite single-objective function.

Objective: Recent advances in development of low-cost single-channel electroencephalography (EEG) headbands have opened new possibilities for applications in health monitoring and brain-computer interface (BCI) systems. These recorded EEG signals, however, are often contaminated by eye blink artifacts that can yield the fallacious interpretation of the brain activity. This paper proposes an efficient algorithm, VME-DWT, to remove eye blinks in a short segment of the single EEG channel. Method: The proposed algorithm: (a) locates eye blink intervals using Variational Mode Extraction (VME) and (b) filters only contaminated EEG interval using an automatic Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) algorithm. The performance of VME-DWT is compared with an automatic Variational Mode Decomposition (AVMD) and a DWT-based algorithms, proposed for suppressing eye blinks in a short segment of the single EEG channel. Results: The VME-DWT detects and filters 95% of the eye blinks from the contaminated EEG signals with SNR ranging from −8 to +3 dB. The VME-DWT shows superiority to the AVMD and DWT with the higher mean value of correlation coefficient (0.92 vs. 0.83, 0.58) and lower mean value of RRMSE (0.42 vs. 0.59, 0.87). Significance: The VME-DWT can be a suitable algorithm for removal of eye blinks in low-cost single-channel EEG systems as it is: (a) computationally-efficient, the contaminated EEG signal is filtered in millisecond time resolution, (b) automatic, no human intervention is required, (c) low-invasive, EEG intervals without contamination remained unaltered, and (d) low-complexity, without need to the artifact reference.

Opis:
Diopatrichnus santamariensis nov. isp. from lower Pliocene sediments on Santa Maria Island in the Azores Archipelago (mid-North Atlantic) represents the third ichnospecies of Diopatrichnus Kern, as characterized by a vertical or inclined tube armoured mainly by bivalve shells that are mostly perpendicular to the burrow axis and concave-upward. The polychaete Owenia (family Oweniidae) is favoured as its potential tracemaker based on recent analogues, as opposed to the alternative polychaete Diopatra (family Onuphidae). The tracemaker was able to cross oceanic depths, distances, and colonize mid-ocean island sediments. In general, including this example from Santa Maria Island, Diopatrichnus occurs mostly within the Skolithos and the Cruziana ichnofacies.

Opis:
The need to match education and business goals is an endeavour and a challenge for any educational institution, especially for higher education institutions. This challenge has become an important focus over the last decades due to the claimed relationship between education and innovation as well as the potential for economic development. The biggest challenge seems to be to overcome the barriers of thought and objectives that exist between the two worlds of education and business. Indeed, although many attempts and programmes are being developed almost all over the world to bridge these two realities, many clashes and disillusions exist. For different reasons, this issue is viewed almost exclusively from the academic perspective, with the entrepreneurial perspective being completely absent. Based on the experience of both the academic and business worlds, the authors commence this contribution by analysing the causes of this mismatch of interests. They conclude by presenting some possible solutions for improving this misalignment.

Opis:
The design of neonatal intensive care units (NICU) influences both patient safety and clinical outcomes as well as the acoustic conditions. In NICU exposure to sound pressure levels above the recommended can affect both neonates and healthcare staff. This study aimed to evaluate the sound pressure levels and to assess noise perception of professionals in a NICU before and after structural modifications and layout redesign. The measurements were performed with a sound level meter. A questionnaire was given to staff before and after the intervention. The opinion of healthcare staff regarding noise in NICU was better after the intervention, when compared with the responses previously given. The results showed that noise levels were excessive in the NICU (before and after), exceeding the international recommendations, with the levels ranging between 46.6 dBA to 57.8 dBA before and 52.0 dBA to 54.0 dBA after intervention. Overall, there is a need for more research in order to verify the effectiveness of some actions and strategies to reduce the impact of noise in NICU.

Opis:
The importance of cultural tourism for the development of tourist destinations has created a need for knowledge on both supply and demand sides, related to the motivations and constraints which can affect the decisions of the cultural tourist. The aim of this study is to develop and validate for the Portuguese tourists two scales to measure motivations to travel and its constraints, considering theories of needs and constraints, and to examine differences according to tourists’ socio-demographic characteristics. The scales were determined using a non-linear principal component analysis followed by bootstrap confirmatory factor analysis, and differences were examined using parametric tests. A six-dimensional model for motivations and a five-dimensional model for constraints were validated, both with good overall fit. Motives linked to culture, intellectual curiosity and cultural knowledge stand out with high levels of relevance. Lack of resources and other commitments are the most important constraints. Significant differences were found in almost all characteristics. The results reveal influential dimensions on travel decisions which are of utmost importance for the design of the cultural offer of destinations.
Poddano walidacji sześciowymiarowy model motywacji i pięciowymiarowy model ograniczeń, oba z dobrym ogólnym dopasowaniem. Motywy związane z kulturą, ciekawością intelektualną i wiedzą kulturową wyróżniają się wysokim poziomem relewancji. Najważniejszymi ograniczeniami są brak środków finansowych i inne zobowiązania. Znaczące różnice stwierdzono prawie we wszystkich cechach. Wyniki ujawniają ich wpływ na decyzje dotyczące podróży, co ma ogromne znaczenie dla projektowania oferty kulturalnej miejsca docelowego.

The concept of smart cities is seen as a key strategy to mitigate the problems generated by the rapid urbanization. Within the smart cities umbrella, the so-called smart mobility has been subject of considerable research. The systematic review reported by this article aimed to identify the most relevant applications supported by smart cities’ infrastructure with an impact in urban logistic transports. A total of 39 articles were retrieved, and the results show that the main application areas are related to solid waste management and the routing of logistic fleets, namely, to improve the last mile logistics.
