Opis:
The im(migration) and refugee crisis that are being exacerbated under the Trump administration, is a manifestation of empire-building and the long history of colonization of the Global South. A Marxist-humanist perspective recognizes these as consistent aspects of a clearly racist global capitalism that functions in the interest of multibillion dollar U.S. –based corporations and increasingly transnational corporations. Trade agreements, international economic policy, political intervention, invasion or the threat of these, often secure corporate interests in specific countries and regions. The authors use critical discourse analysis to examine the discourses around Mexican, Central American, and Syrian im(migrants) and refugees as examples of how U.S. mainstream media discourses normalize relations of domination between the U.S. and the Global South and by extension, between its peoples. The article posits these communities as an important revolutionary class for today.

Opis:
From the outset, Italian education has been interested in the message of films and cinema’s power of persuasion. Prior to the advent of television, education viewed cinema with suspicion for the alleged damage it caused to the minds of young people. Later, it would view cinema as a means of fascist ideological propaganda. From the 1920s onwards, schools would use cinema as a teaching aid through the so-called “educational cinema”. Since 1960, schools have aimed to teach formal analysis and film content. On the threshold of the new millennium, the revolution in school autonomy obliged every educational institution to independently manage the financial resources allocated to them. This involved the arrival in schools of external experts who were entrusted with media education: they were supported by an internal tutor while the school coordinated the professionals who spe-cialized in cinema; meanwhile the subject teacher entered the Internet era with the innovation of the interactive whiteboard, assuming the role of multimedia author. Thus began the training of teachers within schools, who were registered on the national list of Visual Education Workers.

Leadership competencies for knowledge translation in public health : A consensus study
Autorzy:

Opis:
Background: In 2010, 240 billion US dollars was invested worldwide to conduct research for health; unfortunately, 200 billion was misused in the production and reporting of the evidence researched. Universities could facilitate students to acquire leadership competencies to move well-conducted research findings into practical use; this could be an essential move to reduce the misuse of investment. Methods: A literature review was done based on the Equator Network and Cochrane guidelines, followed by three Delphi rounds to select competencies. Results: Eleven papers were analysed out of 1121 items and 39/78 identified competencies were prioritized to be presented in the Delphi. Four out of 12 participants accepted to be involved in this project, and 22 competencies reached consensus and stability after three rounds. This framework conceptualizes competencies as the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values. The competencies were framed in four domains: knowledge management, engage diverse others in public health initiatives, training and capacity building/change management and communication. Conclusion: This framework offers guidance to universities when instructing students with leadership competencies for KT. This project emphasizes that effective leadership should include personal conscience and self-determination values.

Objective: The following scoping review is aimed at identifying leadership competency frameworks in Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) by analyzing the thematic scopes, target audiences, and methods involved. A further objective is to compare the frameworks against a standard framework. Methods: The authors extracted the thematic scope and methods of each framework based on the original author’s formulations in each selected paper. The target audience was divided into three sections: UME, medical education, and beyond medical education. The frameworks were converged and diverged against the public health leadership competency framework. Results: Thirty-three frameworks covering thematic scopes such as refugees and migrants were identified. The most common methods to develop leadership frameworks were reviews and interviews. The courses targeted multiple disciplines including medicine and nurses. The identified competency frameworks have not converged among important domains of leadership such as systems thinking, political leadership, leading change, and emotional intelligence. Conclusion: There is a variety of frameworks that support leadership in UME. Nevertheless, they are not consistent in vital domains to face worldwide health challenges. Interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary leadership competency frameworks which address health challenges should be used in UME.

This research discusses the application of two different clustering algorithms (agglomerative and partitional) to a set of data derived from the phenomenon of the collaborative economy in the tourism industry known as Airbnb. In order to analyze this phenomenon, the algorithms are known as “hierarchical Tree” and “K-Means” were used with the objective of gaining a better understanding of the spatial configuration and current functioning of this complimentary lodging offer. The city of Guanajuato, Mexico was selected as the case for convenience purposes and the main touristic attractions were used as parameters to conduct the analysis. Cluster techniques were applied to both algorithms and the results were statistically compared.

Opis:
Brackish water is an important source of water resources with lower salt content than seawater. Desalination is a very important treatment to remedy the scarcity of fresh water throughout the world. In this work, it has been proposed to desalinate brackish groundwater using a commercial nanofiltration membrane. The experiments were carried out on the basis of a factorial design using three factors and two levels of study for each variable. For this purpose, it selected the feed pressure (X1) of the membrane module at (60 and 100 psi), feed water salinity (X2) at levels of (3.4 and 6.01 mS/cm) and operating temperature (X3) at levels (20 and 28°C) to evaluate its effect on the percentage flux recovery and salt retention. The results showed that the most significant variable is the feed pressure, achieving higher flow recovery and the percentage of salinity rejection at the 100 Psi level. This showed that by increasing the pressure from (60 to 100 psi), there was a considerable increase in flow recovery (42 to 72%) and salt rejection (24.6 to 28.4%). Likewise, by increasing the temperature from 20 to 28°C, the recovered f low rate increased from (49.78 to 63.2%) and the percentage of salt separation showed an increase from 25.95 to 27.05%. Similarly, by increasing the starting conductivity of the brackish water from (3.4 to 6.01 mS/cm) the percentage of flow recovery has decreased from (61.46 to 51.525%). Likewise, the permeate flow rate increased linearly with feed pressure from 132 L/h (P=40 Psi) to 420 L/h (108 Psi). In conclusion, this research confirms the suitability of the commercial NF membrane studied for brackish water desalination.
