Opis:
Scarcity of fresh water, forced many countries to get their water needs, or part of it, by means of saline water desalination. Reverse osmosis (RO) systems are useful tools in this concern. In case the grid electricity is not available or costly, photovoltaic (PV) power is necessary to derive RO systems. The present paper is concerned with providing a methodology for complete sizing and design of a photovoltaic reverse osmosis (PVRO) system in Egypt. Egypt has very favorable solar energy. A computer program was constructed to solve the mathematical equations of the model to get the numerical values. The program is capable of calculating the solar irradiation for any city in Egypt. Calculations and selection of the RO system with all connected pumps, the peak PV power needed, and the actual PV area were performed for different water demands ranging from 1-100 m3/day, and various water total dissolved solids (TDSs) of 5000, 15000, and 30000 mg/l. The cost of the complete PVRO system was also determined. The concern of the paper is related to water desalination and solar energy, which are responsible for our existence. The work also aims toward sustainable and clean environment via utilizing solar energy.

Opis:
Vehicle emissions and performance fueled with waste cooking oil biodiesel is the main topic of this research. Biodiesel was produced through transesterification with physical and chemical characteristics comparable to diesel. B20 is a methyl ester of 20% blended with diesel. A diesel vehicle was modified and equipped with all measuring instruments needed to perform all experiments. The variable speed and load tests were conducted on the vehicle to measure the performance and emissions at different loads (0–30 kW) and different speeds (0–33 km/h). The vehicle speed was the maximum attained for each gear with a constant fuel flow rate without external fuel control at a steady state. At a vehicle speed of 33 km/h, the greatest increases in fuel consumption and exhaust gas temperature for biodiesel B20 were 17 and 6%, respectively, as related to pure diesel. At a vehicle speed of 33 km/h, B20 reduced the distance traveled, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon concentrations compared to diesel by 22, 9 and 10%, respectively. At a vehicle speed of 33 km/h, the increases in nitrogen oxides and oxygen concentrations of B20 were 4 and 3% higher, respec-tively, than crude diesel over the whole tested load range. The biggest increases in distance, fuel consumption, and exhaust gas temperature for B20 over diesel were 13, 3, and 2%, respectively, at a vehicle load of 30 kW. The B20 blend decreased CO and hydrocarbon emissions related to diesel by 17 and 32%, respectively, at a vehicle load of 30 kW. The increases in nitrogen oxides and oxygen concentrations of B20 across the whole load range were 11 and 3% higher than pure diesel at a vehicle load of 30 kW, respectively. Biodiesel blend B20 is suggested for application in vehicles providing that the vehicle is moderately loaded.
Głównym tematem badań podjętych w niniejszym artykule są emisje i osiągi pojazdów napędzanych biodieslem odpadowym z oleju spożywczego. Biodiesel powstał w procesie transestryfikacji o właściwościach fizycznych i chemicznych porównywalnych z olejem napędowym. B20 to 20% ester metylowy zmieszany z olejem napędowym. Zmodyfikowano pojazd z silnikiem diesla i wyposażono go we wszystkie przyrządy pomiarowe potrzebne do przeprowadzenia wszystkich eksperymentów. Przeprowadzono testy zmiennej prędkości i obciążenia pojazdu, aby zmierzyć jego osiągi i emisję przy różnych obciążeniach (0–30 kW) i różnych prędkościach (0–33 km/h). Prędkość pojazdu była maksymalną osiąganą na każdym biegu przy stałym natężeniu przepływu paliwa bez zewnętrznego sterowania paliwem w stanie ustalonym. Przy prędkości pojazdu wynoszącej 33 km/h największe wzrosty zużycia paliwa i temperatury spalin dla biodiesla B20 wyniosły odpowiednio 17 i 6% w porównaniu do czystego oleju napędowego. Przy prędkości pojazdu wynoszącej 33 km/h B20 zmniejszył przebyty dystans oraz stężenie tlenku węgla i węglowodorów w porównaniu do oleju napędowego odpowiednio o 22, 9 i 10%. Przy prędkości pojazdu wynoszącej 33 km/h przyrosty stężeń tlenków azotu i tlenu B20 były w całym badanym zakresie obciążeń odpowiednio o 4 i 3% większe niż w przypadku surowego oleju napędowego. Największy wzrost zasięgu, zużycia paliwa i temperatury spalin dla B20 w porównaniu z olejem napędowym wyniósł odpowiednio 13, 3 i 2% przy obciążeniu pojazdu 30 kW. Mieszanka B20 zmniejszyła emisję CO i węglowodorów związaną z olejem napędowym odpowiednio o 17 i 32% przy obciążeniu pojazdu 30 kW. Wzrosty stężeń tlenków azotu i tlenu B20 w całym zakresie obciążenia były odpowiednio o 11 i 3% wyższe niż w przypadku czystego oleju napędowego przy obciążeniu pojazdu 30 kW. Mieszankę biodiesla B20 zaleca się stosować w pojazdach pod warunkiem, że pojazd jest umiarkowanie obciążony.

Opis:
Implementation of the Marine Electronic Highway (MEH) project in Straits of Malacca and Singapore will complement the efforts taken by Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore as littoral states in enhancing safety of navigation and the prevention and control of marine pollution in the Straits. The Project Steering Committee meetings of the MEH indicate that, the progress in the implementation of its activities is in the midst of many challenging conditions. The efforts is a testament that the littoral states are working together to ensure the implementation of this project is running smoothly since the donor agencies, user States and the maritime industry have great expectations on its success. The MEH project consists of four important components such as Hydrographic Survey and Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs) production, Environment Marine Information Overlays, Baseline Survey and Information Technology Structure. This paper will address the current status of the implementation of the four key components highlighting the development of ENCs as a vital tool to sustain the safety of navigation along the straits. The discussion in this paper is based on some preliminary survey findings and from reports of the Project Steering Committee meetings.

Nowadays, resonators are widely used in automobile, industrial applications, aerospace engineering, and some other fields. One of the unique characteristics of resonators which made them highly convenient is their acoustic capability to attenuate noise without having to use any acoustic absorptive material. The device acts by manipulating the sound waves to create mismatch impedance. Recent studies also suggest that the typical bulk size resonator with narrow frequency bandwidth is not the only option anymore, since there are newly designed resonators that are capable of having wide attenuation bandwidth and are smaller in size. Numerical and experimental measures were executed accordingly with the same purpose to obtain efficient noise attenuation results from varying resonators’ and mufflers’ configuration in terms of quantity, types, and geometry. The aim of this review is to summarize recent developments on resonator study and to try highlighting some noteworthy issues that need to be unraveled by future research. Helmholtz resonator, Quarter wave tube, Herschel-Quincke tube and helicoidal resonator are part of the numerous resonator studies that will be covered in this paper.

Opis:
Water shortage consider on of the main threats facing the agriculture, mainly in the Mediterranean area. So that there is a great need to apply new methods to water resource management. The crop models are used to achieve this objective. Tomato is a significant vegetable crop globally and represent an important part of horticultural production with 180 million tons produced on over five million hectares even though few studies have validated the AquaCrop model, especially in Egypt. This study was conducted in a protected cultivation experimental farm, Agricultural Research Center (ARC), Dokki, Giza, Egypt during the winter seasons of 2019/2020 and 2020/2021. Different irrigation levels (IL): 55%, 70%, 85%, 100%, and 115% of evapotranspiration (Eto) were applied on tomato. Plant growth parameters, relative chlorophyll content (SPAD), yield, fruit quality and plant nutrients (NPK) were recorded at both seasons. Also, the aforementioned irrigation levels were used to validate the AquaCrop model on different climate change scenarios on tomato productivity in 2050 and 2100. The findings revealed that the highest plant growth parameters were obtained in 85% and 100% Eto as compared to all treatments at both seasons. In contrast, the 55% of Eto obtained the lowest values of all plant growth parameters. The number of fruits/plant, early yield, and total yield of 100% Eto were ranked secondly. Fruits quality was significantly affected by the tested ILs. The highest values of TSS, firmness and vit C of tomato fruits were obtained by 55% followed by 70% Eto. The lowest proline content was recorded at 115% of Eto in both seasons. The content of proline in plants of 70% Eto ranked secondly after 55% of Eto in both seasons. The results of AquaCrop model (Version 7.0) revealed that the crop productivity decreased by 4% and 33% of RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 scenarios, respectively, of the years 2050, 14% and 44% for the same scenarios, respectively, of the year 2100.

Mabahiss Bay and Safaga Bay are two important ports along the Red Sea coast of Egypt. The present study is the first to monitor halogen concentrations in these two ports. Certain halogens (F, Cl, Br and I) in coastal waters and sediments exhibited different behaviors. Fluoride (1.92–8.31 mg/L and 0.34–1.24 mg/g), chloride (20.76–22.68 g/L and 0.38–8.31 mg/g), bromide (95.90–151.84 mg/l and 6.66–50.61 mg/g), and iodide (2.77–39.19 μg/L and 1.71–3.76 μg/g) appeared in the seawater and sediments of Mabahiss Bay, respectively. In Safaga Bay, F, Cl, Br and I yielded ranges of (1.80–10.15 mg/L and 0.14–0.74 mg/g), (21.47–22.57 g/L and 0.68–1.42 mg/g), (15.98–146.51 mg/L and 6.13–74.59 mg/g) in seawater and sediments, respectively. In Mabashis Bay exclusively, the bromide and iodide levels in seawater increased significantly, and the sediments were vice versa. The average fluoride value in the two ports' seawater was higher than that in the unpolluted Mediterranean Sea. In contrast, the average bromide content in Mabahiss Bay seawater exceeded the Mediterranean Sea level. The seawater chloride content of the two ports was within the Mediterranean seawater's value, but the iodide concentration was lower than that of the unpolluted seawater. The application of different multivariate statistical techniques showed that halogen's distribution and halogen's geochemical characteristics control interaction in each region, ground flux, and proximity to human sources.
