Opis:: Shells are forms that base their behaviour in their geometry. From Antiquity, the art of building is conceived as the ability to span and grew with little pieces, like bricks and stones, until great spaces could be closed. Arches, vaults and domes work mostly because their geometrical confi guration and not so much because their intrinsic strengthening. The complexity of Baroque domes has not been studied enough until now, at least in terms of structural analysis in conjunction with geometrical concepts. This is the reason because we have carried out a research in which geometry is considered as structure. We have studied a wide series of churches of the German Baroque and we present here two of them that maybe are the most surprising: the Chapel in the Monastery of Banz, by Johann Dientzenhofer, and The Fourteen Saints Basilica, by Balthasar Neumann. Their complex roofs, checked in situ, have been modeled using a 3D parametric design application and analysed by Finite Elements Analysis Method using ABAQUS. The main aim of this paper is to demonstrate that the basis of the optimal behaviour is the special geometry considered for each design. These geometries allow consider only membrane stresses instead of shell stresses. Bending is really acting in border and edges and not in the general surface as occurs in concrete and steel shells. Baroque was the inventor of membranes as we actually conceive them, with examples that present such complexity that none of the great concrete builders have tried to build.
Sklepienia łupinowe są formami, których zachowanie oparte jest na ich geometrii. Już od starożytności, sztuka budowania polegała na umiejętności tworzenia elementów konstrukcyjnych z niewielkich fragmentów, takich jak cegły czy kamienie, co pozwalało na zamknięcie wielkich przestrzeni. Łuki, sklepienia i kopuły funkcjonują głównie z racji swojej konfiguracji geometrycznej, a nie z powodu wewnętrznego wzmocnienia. Złożoność barokowych kopuł nie została jak do tej pory odpowiednio przestudiowana, przynajmniej pod względem analizy konstrukcji w połączeniu z koncepcjami geometrycznymi. Z tego też powodu przeprowadziliśmy badania, w których geometria została potraktowana jako konstrukcja. Przestudiowaliśmy szereg kościołów z okresu niemieckiego baroku i prezentujemy tutaj dwa z nich, które wydają się być najbardziej interesujące: Kaplicę z klasztoru w Banz, zaprojektowaną przez Johanna Dientzenhofera, oraz Bazylikę Czternastu Świętych Wspomożycieli Balthasara Neumanna. Ich złożone przekrycia, zbadane in situ, zostały zamodelowane z wykorzystaniem projektowania parametrycznego w 3D i przeanalizowane za pomocą metody elementów skończonych z zastosowaniem programu ABAQUS. Celem niniejszej pracy jest zademonstrowanie, iż podstawą optymalnej pracy konstrukcji jest geometria jej poszczególnych elementów, specyficzna dla każdego projektu. Ta geometria pozwala brać pod uwagę jedynie naprężenia membranowe zamiast naprężeń powłokowych. Zginanie oddziałuje na granicach i brzegach, a nie na całej powierzchni, jak to ma miejsce w przypadku powłok betonowych i stalowych. W baroku wynaleziono membrany w naszym rozumieniu tego pojęcia, a ich przykłady mają tak złożony charakter, iż żaden z twórców wielkich budowli z betonu nie próbował nic podobnego stworzyć.

Opis:: This paper explores the effect of inflation on general financial transactions and particularly on loans. For this purpose, inflation is specified in the mathematical expression of a capitalization or discounting function. Thus, we write these functions as the product of an inflation-free capitalization or discounting function and the law of variation of the money purchasing power. As an immediate consequence, we show that the instantaneous rate of a capitalization or discounting function is the sum of the instantaneous rates of each component. Later, this decomposition is applied to simple and compound financial transactions, leading to the equivalence among deflated amounts by means of an inflation-free capitalization or discounting function. This analysis is applied to a loan transaction where we introduce six methods to adjust the payments to the real inflation, because, in a beginning, these payments were calculated with the predicted inflation rates.

Opis:: A different perspective from the more “traditional” approaches to studying solutions of games in partition function form has been presented. We provide a decomposition of the space of such games under the action of the symmetric group, for the cases with three and four players. In particular, we identify all the irreducible subspaces that are relevant to the study of linear symmetric solutions. We then use such a decomposition to derive a characterization of the class of linear and symmetric solutions, as well as of the class of linear, symmetric and efficient solutions.

Opis:: Astragalus nitidiflorus is an endangered legume endemic to the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula. This species develops symbiotic relationships with N-fixing bacteria. However, the problem of isolating its rhizobia has not been solved. Because poor N fixation in plants can be corrected by fertilization, the effect of N-P-K fertilizers on growth, leaf chlorophyll and mineral ions was studied. Plants of A. nitidiflorus were grown in 100%-substrate with different N-P-K fertilizer rates (mg l–1): 1-1-8 (S0), 69-29-35 (SL), 144-43-131 (SM) and 245-58-235 (SH). A treatment with substrate plus soil from the natural habitat and no fertilizers (T0) was included. The reference foliar contents of N, P and K were 42.5, 3.5 and 36.5 mg g–1, respectively. Although the species did not form root nodules when grown in substrate, T0 plants produced active nodules that allowed the plants to grow properly without fertilization. In the absence of nodules, both N fertilization (~144 mg l–1) and Fe fertilization (>12 mg l–1) are vital, as is, to a lesser extent, K fertilization (~75 mg l–1 K2O). The S0 and SL reduced leaf chlorophyll, while SM prevented its degradation.

Opis:: In this paper we collect some properties of strongly midconvex functions. First, counterparts of the classical theorems of Bernstein-Doetsch, Ostrowski and Sierpiński are presented. A version of Rod é support theorem for strongly midconvex functions and a Kuhn-type result on the relation between strongly midconvex functions and strongly t-convex functions are obtained. Finally, a connection between strong midconvexity and generalized convexity in the sense of Beckenbach is established

Opis:: We prove that any uniformly continuous Nemytskii composition operator in the space of functions of bounded generalized Φ-variation in the Schramm sense is affine. A composition operator is locally defined. We show that every locally defined operator mapping the space of continuous functions of bounded (in the sense of Jordan) variation into the space of continous monotonic functions is constant.
