Opis:
In this paper we present interconnection and damping assignment passivity-based control (IDA-PBC) applied to a 2 degrees of freedom (DOFs) underactuated gyroscope. First, the equations of motion of the complete system (3-DOF) are presented in both Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formalisms. Moreover, the conditions to reduce the system from a 3-DOF to a 2-DOF gyroscope, by using Routh’s equations of motion, are shown. Next, the solutions of the partial differential equations involved in getting the proper controller are presented using a reduction method to handle them as ordinary differential equations. Besides, since the gyroscope has no potential energy, it presents the inconvenience that neither the desired potential energy function nor the desired Hamiltonian function has an isolated minimum, both being only positive semidefinite functions; however, by focusing on an open-loop nonholonomic constraint, it is possible to get the Hamiltonian of the closed-loop system as a positive definite function. Then, the Lyapunov direct method is used, in order to assure stability. Finally, by invoking LaSalle’s theorem, we arrive at the asymptotic stability of the desired equilibrium point. Experiments with an underactuated gyroscopic mechanical system show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to characterize the bioactive components in avocado oil (AVO) extracted by ultrasound combined with microwave, which are clean technologies used to assess oil quality. AVO samples were incubated for 30 min at 120 °C (T1), 180 °C (T2), and without any heat treatment (T3). Components were identified using chromatographic techniques, Raman spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). γ-Tocopherol and total carotenoids were affected in T2. The Raman spectrum of T3 and T1 presented a strong band at 1265 cm–1 related to the high content of linoleic acid and three bands associated with carotenoids. In the T2 sample, a weak intensity of the linolenic and linoleic acids was observed. In TGA, T2 showed a robust mass at 173.89 °C, characteristic of oxidized oil compounds. AVO treated at 120 °C for 30 min maintained the integrity of the bioactive compounds.

Opis:
Precise modeling of stand diameter distributions is required to provide accurate estimates of volume per diameter class and unit area. Therefore, it is necessary to obtain the most accurate probability density functions parameters estimates to predict stand diameter distribution in time. We evaluate two methods to estimate the parameters of the Weibull probability density function in the modeling of diameter distributions of bioenergy plantations. The methods considered a direct method of parameter prediction based on regression models (PPRM) and an indirect method of parameter recovery through the determi- nation of percentiles (PRDP). Both methods are considered systems of linear equations and are adjusted through simultaneous estimation of parameters using stand variables. The greatest precision was obtained with PPRM. The PRDP method was not effective in the prediction of diameter distributions due to the high level of truncation of the observed distributions showing an overestimation of the distribution for the largest diameter classes. Estimated parameters of the Weibull PDF are directly related to mean height, quadratic mean diameter, and crop age; and are inversely related to stocking

Opis:
There is a real need to use various efficient energy supply systems that are not aggressive towards the global environment. Hydrogen has been seen in different research papers presented in the literature as an essential fuel to generate energy in various energy storage systems. As it is well-known, it is possible to generate renewable electricity using electrolysis. The hydrogen produced can be sold as fuel for various systems, most notably its use in solid oxide fuel cells and a host of modern applications today. Current low-temperature fuel cells are ideal for hydrogen operation, but are not suitable for hydrogen mixtures. In this article, a mathematical analysis was carried out to generate electrical energy in a fuel cell, fed with synthesis gas from the residual biomass gasification process; the primary interest was the generation of electrical energy, solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC), which operate at the temperature of the gas at the outlet of the gasifier were analyzed. The practical efficiency obtained and the theoretical results of the SOFC operation were shown.

Opis:
Barrett’s esophagus in gastrointestinal reflux patients constitutes a columnar epithelium with distal characteristics, prone to progress to esophageal adenocarcinoma. HOX genes are known mediators of position-dependent morphology. Here we show HOX collinearity in the adult gut while Barrett’s esophagus shows high HOXA13 expression in stem cells and their progeny. HOXA13 overexpression appears sufficient to explain both the phenotype (through downregulation of the epidermal differentiation complex) and the oncogenic potential of Barrett’s esophagus. Intriguingly, employing a mouse model that contains a reporter coupled to the HOXA13 promotor we identify single HOXA13-positive cells distally from the physiological esophagus, which is mirrored in human physiology, but increased in Barrett’s esophagus. Additionally, we observe that HOXA13 expression confers a competitive advantage to cells. We thus propose that Barrett’s esophagus and associated esophageal adenocarcinoma is the consequence of expansion of this gastro-esophageal HOXA13-expressing compartment following epithelial injury.

It received Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for the treatment of severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) by the FDA. Several studies have shown that the blood viral load of SARS-CoV-2 correlates with adverse outcomes and removal of the nucleocapsid of the SARS-CoV-2 virus by the Seraph®100 has been recently demonstrated. The aim of this registry was to evaluate safety and efficacy of Seraph®100 treatment for COVID-19 patients.Twelve hospitals from six countries representing two continents documented patient and treatment characteristics as well as outcome parameters without reimbursement. Additionally, mortality and safety results of the device were reported. One hundred-and-two treatment sessions in 82 patients were documented in the registry. Four patients were excluded from mortality analysis due to incomplete outcome data, which were available in the other 78 patients.Overall, a 30-day mortality rate of 46.2% in the 78 patients with complete follow up was reported. Median treatment time was 5.00 [4.00–13.42] h. and 43.1% of the treatments were performed as hemoperfusion only. Adverse events of the Seraph®100 treatment were reported in 8.8% of the 102 treatments and represented premature end of treatment due to circuit failure. Patients that died were treated later in their ICU stay and onset of COVID symptoms. They also had higher ferritin levels. Multivariate Cox regression revealed that delayed Seraph®100 treatment after ICU admission (>60 hours) as well as bacterial superinfection were associated with mortality. While average predicted mortality rate according to SOFA score in ICU patients was 56.7% the observed mortality was 50.7%. In non-ICU patients 4C-Score average predicted a mortality rate of 38.0% while the observed mortality rate was 11.1%The treatment of COVID-19 patients with Seraph®100 is well tolerated and the circuit failure rate was lower than previously reported for KRT in COVID-19 patients. Mortality corelated with late initiation of Seraph treatment after ICU admission and bacterial superinfection infection. Compared to predicted mortality according to 4C-Score and SOFA Score, mortality of Seraph®100 treated patients reported in the registry was lower.

Opis:
Cosmological and astrophysical observations suggest that 85% of the total matter of the Universe is made of Dark Matter (DM). However, its nature remains one of the most challenging and fundamental open questions of particle physics. Assuming particle DM, this exotic form of matter cannot consist of Standard Model (SM) particles. Many models have been developed to attempt unraveling the nature of DM such as Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs), the most favored particle candidates. WIMP annihilations and decay could produce SM particles which in turn hadronize and decay to give SM secondaries such as high energy 𝛾 rays. In the framework of indirect DM search, observations of promising targets are used to search for signatures of DM annihilation. Among these, the dwarf spheroidal galaxies (dSphs) are commonly favored owing to their expected high DM content and negligible astrophysical background. In this work, we present the very first combination of 20 dSph observations, performed by the Fermi-LAT, HAWC, H.E.S.S., MAGIC, and VERITAS collaborations in order to maximize the sensitivity of DM searches and improve the current results. We use a joint maximum likelihood approach combining each experiment’s individual analysis to derive more constraining upper limits on the WIMP DM self-annihilation cross-section as a function of DM particle mass. We present new DM constraints over the widest mass range ever reported, extending from 5 GeV to 100 TeV thanks to the combination of these five different 𝛾-ray instruments.
