Opis:
The focus of this study was the explosion hazard of micron-sized zinc powder in a small space and low energy environment in the actual using of ventilation pipes of zinc powder processing plants. In the experimental study, the dust explosion parameters in the device (20 L sphere) under special conditions was used, and zinc powder with a median diameter of 3.80 μm was the research material. The experimental conditions were at a temperature 296.15~299.15 K, and a humidity 45~55%. The dust explosion violence parameter of the micron-sized zinc powder was measured. The experimental results showed that when the energy of the igniter was 10 J and the explosion violence parameters of micron-sized zinc powder dust were largest, the ignition delay time was 162~165 ms, the pressure for powder injection was 1.19~1.21 MPa, and the dust concentration was 1750~1820 g/m3. The experimental data were processed by the fitting method, and the degree of influence of three factors on the explosion intensity parameter of micron-sized zinc powder was as follows: dust concentration, ignition delay time, pressure for powder injection. These results are valuable in the design of explosion hazard assessment and anti-explosion measures in zinc powder production.

Opis:
Floating offshore wind turbines are easily affected by typhoons in the deep sea, which may cause serious damage to their structure. Therefore, it is necessary to study further the dynamic response of wind turbine structures under typhoons. This paper took the 5MW floating offshore wind turbine developed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) as the research object. Based on the motion theory of platforms in waves, a physical model with a scale ratio of 1:120 was established, and a hydraulic cradle was used to simulate the effect of waves on the turbines. The dynamic response characteristics of offshore wind turbines under typhoons are systematically studied. The research results clarified that the turbine structure is mainly affected by wave loads under typhoons, and its motion response reaches its maximum value under the action of extreme wave loads. The research results of this paper can provide reference value for the design of offshore wind turbine structures under typhoons.

Opis:
This research determines an identification system for the types of Beiguan music – a historical, non-classical music genre – by combining artificial neural network (ANN), social tagging, and music information retrieval (MIR). Based on the strategy of social tagging, the procedure of this research includes: evaluating the qualifying features of 48 Beiguan music recordings, quantifying 11 music indexes representing tempo and instrumental features, feeding these sets of quantized data into a three-layered ANN, and executing three rounds of testing, with each round containing 30 times of identification. The result of ANN testing reaches a satisfying correctness (97% overall) on classifying three types of Beiguan music. The purpose of this research is to provide a general attesting method, which can identify diversities within the selected non-classical music genre, Beiguan. The research also quantifies significant musical indexes, which can be effectively identified. The advantages of this method include improving data processing efficiency, fast MIR, and evoking possible musical connections from the high-relation result of statistical analyses.

Opis:
Objectives The aim of the study was to examine the relationship between workplace bullying, mental health and an intention to leave among nurses, and the mediating role of self-efficacy. Material and Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted among 385 nurses in Taiwan. Data were collected by means of self-report questionnaires, including the Negative Acts Questionnaire-Revised, the General Self-Efficacy Scale, the Chinese Health Questionnaire, and the Employee’s Turnover Intentions and Job Destination Choices Scale. Descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation and hierarchical regression analyses were used. Results Bullying was found to negatively correlate with self-efficacy and mental health, and positively with an intention to leave. Self-efficacy positively correlated with mental health, and negatively with an intention to leave. Hierarchical regression showed that bullying and self-efficacy were significant predictors of both mental health and an intention to leave. Self-efficacy partially mediated the relationship between bullying and mental health, as well as an intention to leave. Conclusions Self-efficacy acted as a mediator of workplace bullying, mental health and an intention to leave among nurses. It could protect victims from the devastating effects of bullying behaviors. Opis:
His296 of Zymomonas mobilis levansucrase (EC 2.4.1.10) is crucial for the catalysis of the transfructosylation reaction. The three-dimensional structures of levansucrases revealed the His296 is involved in the substrate recognition and binding. In this study, nine mutants were created by site-directed mutagenesis, in which His296 was substituted with amino acids of different polarity, charge and length. The substitutions of His296 with Arg or Trp retained partial hydrolysis and transfructosylation activities. The positively charged Lys substitution resulted in a 2.5-fold increase of sucrose hydrolysis. Substitutions with short (Cys or Ser), negatively charged (Glu) or polar (Tyr) amino acids virtually abolished both the activities. Analysis of transfructosylation products indicated that the mutants synthesized different oligosaccharides, suggesting that amino acid substitutions of His296 strongly affected both the enzyme activity and transfructosylation products.

Opis:
In the discussion of water quality control, the first and most effective parameter that affects other variables and water quality parameters is the temperature situation and water temperature parameters that control many ecological and chemical processes in reservoirs. Additionally, one of the most important quality parameters studied in the quality of water resources of dams and reservoirs is the study of water quality in terms of salinity. The salinity of the reservoirs is primarily due to the rivers leading into them. The control of error in the reservoirs is always considered because the outlet water of the reservoirs, depending on the type of consumption, should always be standard in terms of salinity. Therefore, in this study, using the available statistics, the Ce-Qual-W2 two-dimensional model was used to simulate the heat and salinity layering of the Latyan Dam reservoir. The results showed that with warming and shifting from spring to late summer, the slope of temperature changes at depth increases and thermal layering intensifies, and a severe temperature difference occurs at depth. The results of sensitivity analysis also showed that by decreasing the wind shear coefficient (WSC), the reservoir water temperature increases, so that by increasing or decreasing the value of this coefficient by 0.4, the average water temperature by 0.56°C changes inversely, and the results also show that by increasing or decreasing the value of the shade coefficient by 0.85, the average water temperature changes by about 7.62°C, directly.

Opis:
The potential risks of vapor intrusion (VI) can arise from low bulk soil contaminant concentration existing in shallow soils beneath a building foundation. To assess VI risks for such a contamination scenario, a comprehensive study was conducted on a factory building located at a trichloroethylene (TCE)-contaminated site. This study involved the integration of various types of field data, including groundwater, bulk soil, soil gas and indoor air data, along with the utilization of the Vapor Intrusion Screening Level (VISL) calculator. Previously observed high TCE concentrations in soil gas are attributed to accumulation of TCE vapor within the unsaturated soil beneath the building floor, since ground surface is extensively paved at this site. These soil gas data do not directly correlate with the magnitudes of bulk soil and/or groundwater TCE concentration with the linear adsorption model. Soil gas TCE concentration exceeding 107 μg/m3 (or bulk soil concentration exceeding 18.9 mg/kg) observed in shallow soils (at a depth of less than 1 m ) may pose health risk to the workers inside the building due to VI, as we have detected TCE vapor concentrations exceeding indoor air screening level several times in the past. This bulk soil TCE concentration, however, falls below soil pollution control standards for TCE, i.e., 60 mg/kg, in Taiwan. As a result, soil remediation is not considered at this site. Soil gas TCE concentrations have reduced to less than 106 μg/m3 after two years of groundwater remediation work at this site. However, we have observed significantly higher soil gas TCE levels at a depth of 0.5 m compared to other depths. This discrepancy raises suspicions that an amount of TCE may still be trapped within the shallow soils that are not reached by groundwater table.

Opis:
Objectives This case-control study aimed to investigate the predictors of return to work (RTW) following work-related major forearm, wrist or hand injury at the preparation stage of return to work. Material and Methods A total of 80 clients were recruited and divided into 2 groups depending on their readiness of RTW. The groups were compared with each other with regard to their demographics, compensation status, hand injury severity, health perception, and time off work (TOW) using correlation coefficient. Predictors of RTW were measured by logistic regression analysis. Results There were no significant differences in demographics and the severity of hand injury between 2 groups. Self-perceived physical functioning (p = 0.04), vitality (p = 0.01), mental health (p = 0.03) and TOW (p = 0.001) were significantly different between Action group and Preparation group. With binary logistic regression analysis, self-perceived vitality (odds ratio (OR) = 1.041) and TOW (OR = 0.996) were shown to be strongly predictive of RTW at the preparation stage of return to work. Conclusions This study has shown that shorter TOW and better self-perceived vitality could predict early readiness for RTW after major work-related forearm, wrist or hand injury.
