Opis:
The use of triangular 3D laser scanning may significantly enhance the visual inspection of underwater objects. In these days of high demand for accurate information, exclusively photographic documentation is not enough, as it is geometrically flawed. The authors of this article are trying to present the rudiments of laser scanning, a modern means of measuring, which is reliable, relatively easy to use and works in accordance with basic good measurement practices. With the use of a laser beam, a point model of the measured object is generated with a resolution that is adapted to the requirements. A well performed scan will cover the entire surface of the measured object with no information gaps, as is often the case with photographic documentation which focuses solely on key details. Photographic documentation is now already being replaced by Structure from Motion technology, the latter being an alternative to laser scanning, which creates a textured 3D model from the collection of photographs of the object with similar accuracy, but with more time required.

Opis:
The stabilization energies (often called the aromatic stabilization energies) of π-electron molecules play important role in discussing the properties of these systems. The so-called homodesmotic reactions (involving the π-electron molecules of interest, and a set of reference molecules), treated with reliable methods of computational chemistry, B3LYP/6-31G(d) or B3LYP/6-311+G(2d,p) level of theory, provide a convenient general theoretical framework for calculating the stabilization energies. The present paper is a case study of the benzene molecule, as created from a set of nonstrained linear polyenes. We calculate the corresponding reaction energies, and show how the limit corresponding to the infinite polyene can be obtained. Moreover, in this limit the benzene molecule may be seen as ,,budded off'' from an infinite cyclic polyene (a cyclic model of polyacetylene). A similar treatment can be applied to some analogs of benzene - small cyclic polyenes, thus providing a platform for comparing the corresponding stabilization energies. At this point one faces the problem of strain in (small) cyclic polyenes - in a planar molecule the C-CH-C valence angles are different from 120o . The corresponding angular strain contributes to the calculated reaction energy - and we argue that the strain energy should be somehow ,,filtered out'', in order to arrive at the ,,true'' stabilization energy. Seemingly the benzene molecule is free from the angular strain. But our calculations for linear polyenes indicate that the corresponding C-CH-C valence angles are greater than 124o . Therefore, by going from the reference molecule (a cyclic model of polyacetylene) to the benzene molecule, some energy must be pumped in. Finally, we find that the stabilization energy for benzene equals: - (the reaction energy, including the angular strain energy) + (the estimated angular strain energy) = 17,25 + 3,24 = 20,49 kcal/mol. Thus, the strain energy correction contributes 19% to the final benzene stabilization energy.

Opis:
Mass casualty scenarios of radiation exposure require high throughput biological dosimetry techniques for population triage, in order to rapidly identify individuals, who require clinical treatment. Accurate dose estimates can be made by biological dosimetry, to predict the acute radiation syndrome (ARS) within days after a radiation accident or a malicious act involving radiation. Timely information on dose is important for the medical management of acutely irradiated persons [1]. The aim of the study was to evaluate the usefulness of the micronuclei (MNi) scoring procedure in an experimental mode, where 500 binucleated cells were analyzed in different exposure dose ranges. Whole-body exposure was simulated in an in vitro experiment by irradiating whole blood collected from one healthy donor with 60 MeV protons and 250 keV X-rays, in the dose range of 0.3–4.0 Gy. For achieving meaningful results, sample scoring was performed by three independent persons, who followed guidelines described in detail by Fenech et al. [2, 3]. Compared results revealed no signifi cant differences between scorers, which has important meaning in reducing the analysis time. Moreover, presented data based on 500 cells distribution, show that there are significant differences between MNi yields after 1.0 Gy exposure of blood for both protons and X-rays, implicating this experimental mode as appropriate for the distinction between high and low dose-exposed individuals, which allows early classification of exposed victims into clinically relevant subgroups.

Opis:
Beef cattle breeds in Poland: Various of beef cattle breeds offer many different paths of breeding for Polish breeders. Understanding their predisposition is the key to effective and profitable production. The current level of beef consumption in Poland barely exceed 3 kg per person per year, what is lower result than in the past when it amounted nearly to 18 kg per person per year. It is strongly connected to lack of beef cattle production and consumption tradition. The rapid development of poultry and pork production results in prices drop of those products and deepen marginalization of the culinary beef. To repopularize beef on the Polish market, it is necessary to increase its quality in order to meet the current requirements of customers and become attractive for them. According to many authors, the key element is the promotion of knowledge in this field among farmers to produce better quality beef. Quality is a key due to the increase in nutritional value and improvement of its taste and appearance which is crucial during making a choice. The difficult market situation forces breeders to make a deliberate decision and apply new solutions in breeding. The mentioned and described breeds are present on Polish farms, however their populations differ significantly despite the diverse potential they have.

Opis:
During excavation of the cremation cemetery of urnfield culture in Legnica at Spokojna Street (Lower Silesia, Poland), dated to 1100-700 BC, the largest - so far in Poland – a collection of casting moulds from the Bronze Age was discovered: three moulds for axes casting made out of stone and five moulds for casting sickles, razors, spearhead and chisels, made out of clay. This archaeological find constituted fittings of foundrymen’s graves. In order to perform the complete analysis of moulds in respect of their application in the Bronze Age casting technology analytical methods, as well as, computer aided methods of technological processes were used. Macroscopic investigations were performed and the X-ray fluorescence spectrometry method was used to analyse the chemical composition and metal elements content in mould cavities. Moulds were subjected to three-dimensional scanning and due to the reverse engineering the geometry of castings produced in these moulds were obtained. The gathered data was used to perform design and research works by means of the MAGMA5 software. Various variants of the pouring process and alloys solidification in these archaeological moulds were simulated. The obtained results were utilised in the interpretation of the Bronze Age casting production in stone and clay moulds, with regard to their quality and possibility of casting defects occurrence being the result of these moulds construction. The reverse engineering, modelling and computer simulation allowed the analysis of moulds and castings. Investigations of casting moulds together with their digitalisation and reconstruction of casting technology, confirm the high advancement degree of production processes in the Bronze Age.

Opis:
W zlewniach dominowały osady złożone podczas małej dynamiki transportu, jednak dwie zlewnie charakteryzowały się pewnym udziałem (do 10%) osadów deponowanych w środowisku o większej energii. Jednak zróżnicowanie to związane jest z energią rzeźby badanych zlewni, natomiast wpływ wiatrowałów nie zaznaczył się jeszcze wyraźnie w cechach teksturalnych osadów.
The aim of the research was to recognize the diversity of the textural and chemical characteristics of the sediments removed from the catchments of the Tatra Mts., which were affected by the windthrow event in 2013. The diversity was related to the morphometry of the catchments and the effects of the windthrow event. In catchments sediments deposited during low transport dynamics dominated, two of the catchments were characterized by some percentage (up to 10%) of the sediments deposited in the high-energy environment. However, this diversity is connected to the morphometry of the studied catchments and up to this time impact of the windthrows is not clearly reflected in the textural characteristics of the sediments.

Opis:
The paper presents a resistance structures with sensor layers based on nanostructures elaborated on the base of TiO2 and ZnO. The structures were tested concerning their sensitivities to the effects of nitrogen dioxide in the atmosphere of synthetic air. The TiO2 and ZnO nanostructures played the role of sensor layers. Investigations have proved that the elaborated resistance structures with TiO2 and ZnO layers are sensitive to the presence of NO2 in the atmosphere of synthetic air. The resistance of the structure amounted to about 20 in the case of ZnO structures and to about 200 in the case of TiO2 structures. The investigations confirmed that resistance structures with ZnO and TiO2, exposed to the effect of nitrogen dioxide in the atmosphere of synthetic air changes their resistances relatively fast. This indicates that such structures might be practically applied in sensors of nitrogen dioxide ensuring a short time of response.

Opis:
The paper presents resistance sensor structures with a graphene sensing layer. The structures were tested concerning their sensitivity to the affects of hydrogen, nitrogen dioxide and steam in an atmosphere of a synthetic air. Investigations have proved that resistance structures with a graphene layer are sensitive to the presence of the tested gases. The resistance of the structures amounted to about 10Ω, whereas changes in the resistances affected by the external gaseous medium were contained within the range of a several mΩ. The investigations confirmed that the resistance structures with graphene exposed to the affect of hydrogen in atmosphere of synthetic air change their resistances practically at once (within the order of only a few seconds). This indicates that such structures might be practically applied in sensors of hydrogen ensuring a short time of response.
