Opis:
Passive source localization in shallow water has always been an important and challenging problem. Implementing scientific research, surveying, and monitoring using a short, less than ten meter long, horizontal linear array has received considerable attention in the recent years. The short array can be conveniently placed on autonomous underwater vehicles and deployed for adaptive spatial sampling. However, it is usually difficult to obtain a sufficient spatial gain for localizing long-range sources due to its limited physical size. To address this problem, a localization approach is proposed which is based on matched-field processing of the likelihood of the passive source localization in shallow water, as well as inter-position processing for the improved localization performance and the enhanced stability of the estimation process. The ability of the proposed approach is examined through the two-dimensional synthetic test cases which involves ocean environmental mismatch and position errors of the short array. The presented results illustrate the localization performance for various source locations at different signal- to-noise ratios and demonstrate the build up over time of the positional parameters of the estimated source as the short array moves at a low speed along a straight line at a certain depth.

Opis:
In order to remove the harmful metal ions in lead-zinc mineral processing wastewater, two natural clay minerals (bentonite and kaolin) were used as adsorbents and Zn(II) ions were the emphasis in this work. The adsorption behaviors including kinetics and isotherms were investigated by batch experiments. In addition, the adsorption mechanisms were studied by means of zeta potential testing, optical microscope and XRD analysis. The results show that the adsorption process can be best described as the pseudo-second order kinetic model. The adsorption equilibrium data of bentonite and kaolinite can be respectively fitted best by Langmuir and Freundlich models. Thermodynamic studies display that the adsorption of Zn(II) onto clays is non-spontaneous and endothermic. The maximum capacity of Zn(II) adsorbed on bentonite and kaolinite respectively reaches to 79.2 mg·g-1 and 6.35 mg·g-1 at 25 °C. The structural differences of bentonite and kaolinite result in the differences in adsorption behavior and mechanism. The interaction mechanisms of Zn(II) with bentonite and kaolinite involve electrostatic attraction, cation exchange, surface complex and precipitation. Bentonite as adsorbent has the potential to remove Zn2+ better than kaolinite.

Opis:
A substantially complete skull of a small crocodyliform recently found on the foreshore near Yaverland on the southeast coast of the Isle of Wight, southern England is described. The locality, mode of preservation and associated matrix indicate that it is derived from one of the plant debris beds of the Lower Cretaceous Wessex Formation (Barremian, Wealden Group). The dentition, unique among crocodyliforms, serves to confirm that the specimen is referable to the, until now, monotypic family Bernissartiidae. Apomorphies, including placement of the choana entirely within the pterygoids and disposition of cranial sutures demonstrate that the Isle of Wight skull cannot be referred to Bernissartia fagesii, known from contemporaneous strata. Furthermore, these characters indicate that the specimen should not be referred to a new species of Bernissartia. It is therefore placed in a new genus and species, Koumpiodontosuchus aprosdokiti. The systematic position of Bernissartiidae, and characters used to diagnose Eusuchia, including placement of the choana(e) within the prerygoids, are discussed. Until recently this condition was thought to be restricted to Eusuchia with all non-eusuchian neosuchian crorocdiliforms possessing choanae bounded posteriorly by the pterygoids and anteriorly by the palatines. While the choana of Koumpiodontosuchus aprosdokiti gen. et sp. nov. is entirely bounded by the pterygoids it differs from the choanae of eusuchians in lacking a median septum, being anteroposteriorly elongate and in its anterior placement.

The present study was undertaken to detect the presence of Chlamydophila psittaci antibodies in captive birds at the Wildlife Rescue Center, Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Nature Center, Quezon City, Philippines. Blood was collected from 36 birds of different species and the presence of antibodies against C. psittaci was detected using an ELISA-based test kit. 25% of the samples demonstrated antibodies against C. psittaci. The results of this study confi rmed the presence of C. psittaci antibodies among the captive birds examined.

Opis:
The traditional methods of waste munitions treatment are expensive and also have potential risks during the treatment process. The supercritical fluid extraction technique has been a rapidly developing technique in the chemical industry in recent years. CO2 is used as the solvent, which has some advantages, such as low pollution, low cost, good chemical stability and can be operated under low temperature conditions. This research explored the feasibility of reclaiming TNT from waste munitions by supercritical CO2 fluid extraction. It was found interestingly that the melting point of TNT can be lowered in supercritical CO2 fluid. Therefore, the melting process of TNT was observed under different temperature and pressure conditions to determine the best operating conditions for stripping-down TNT from waste munitions. Afterwards, simulated warheads with weight loadings of 60 g, 500 g and 1 kg of TNT were prepared and stripping-down tests from the simulated warheads were carried out using supercritical CO2 fluid at temperatures lower than the normal melting point of TNT. The results showed that TNT could be completely removed from the simulated warheads and the optimum operating conditions were determined as 55 °C and 25 MPa. This study will contribute to the feasibility evaluation of stripping-down TNT-based high explosives.

Opis:
The aim of present work is to investigate the mass transfer of steady incompressible hydromagnetic fluid near the stagnation point with deferment of dust particles over a stretching surface. Most researchers tried to improve the mass transfer by inclusion of cross-diffusion or dust particles due to their vast applications in industrial processes, extrusion process, chemical processing, manufacturing of various types of liquid drinks and in various engineering treatments. To encourage the mass transport phenomena in this study we incorporated dust with microorganisms. Conservation of mass, momentum, concentration and density of microorganisms are used in relevant flow equations. The arising system of nonlinear partial differential equations is transformed into nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The numerical solutions are obtained by the Runge-Kutta based shooting technique and the local Sherwood number is computed for various values of the physical governing parameters (Lewis number, Peclet number, Eckert number). An important finding of present work is that larger values of these parameters encourage the mass transfer rate, and the motile organisms density profiles are augmented with the larger values of fluid particle interaction parameter with reference to bioconvection, bioconvection Lewis number, and dust particle concentration parameter..

Opis:
In order to explore a more reasonable structure and operating parameter, guide the design and improve the gasification of seawater Open Rack Vaporizer (ORV), Research on the rules of seawater that flows and heat transfer in the ORV tube was studied in this paper. By simplifying the model, heat transfer tube model with spoiler lever was obtained and simulated, the distribution of temperature field, gas ratio, velocity field and press field in rib tube were analyzed, and different inlet velocity of LNG, roughness of the tube wall both effected on the overall gasification, the results shows that the actual gasification efficiency from heat transfer tube is higher than normal, small difference of gas ratio outlet, velocity and temperature are both lower, LNG could be easer gasified at operating temperature between -162°C~+3°C than that between -162°C~+0°C.
