Opis:
This paper tackles with thermal management in optically pumped vertical-external-cavity surface-emitting lasers. The considerations are based on one-dimensional, stationary solution of heat conduction equation. It is shown that even such simplified model can provide useful hints for designing devices of this type.

Opis:
Black elder is a popular medicinal plant. Its flowers contain flavonoids, phenolic acids, tannins, essential oil and other compounds. The fruits contain carbohydrates, anthocyanins, flavonoids, tannins, fatty acids, vitamins C and B2, folic acid and organic acids. According to research results, its flower extracts show anti-inflammatory and antibacterial activity, and they control the blood glucose level, whereas fruit extracts have immunostimulatory, antiviral, antibacterial and antioxidative activity. Alcoholic extracts of fruits and leaves show anti-toxoplasma activity. The objective of the present study was to determine selected chemical elements (using ICP-OES), total polyphenolic compounds (using the Folin-Ciocalteu reagent) and antioxidative activity (using the radical DPPH and total activity of iron (III) ions reduction by FRAP) in aqueous extracts of black elder-based materials. The test material included the flowers, leaves and fruits of Sambucus nigra from eight locations. The samples were powdered and sieved prior to obtaining extracts. The findings underwent the Spearman’s rank correlation analysis and cluster analysis. The tests confirmed the presence of very high and high correlations between certain chemical elements and the content of polyphenols versus antioxidative activity in the raw materials. The results of the cluster analysis revealed a series of correlations between antioxidative activity, total polyphenols and the chemical elements determined.

Opis:
The article presents the origin of Emission Control Area (ECA) zones, a timetable for their enforcement, criteria of their implementation and the principles and rules of navigation in these areas. Plans and areas of the next ECA zones envisaged for the future are presented. Least fuel route programming was presented, together with a description of safety rules during the change-over procedure in operations concerning the main engine and other ship systems. An attempt to identify the problems that may be encountered when programming the routes with the use of on-board routing systems, like Bon Voyage of AWT, leading through the ECA zones, has been made. Examples of such problems, taken from a true voyage of a postpanamx container vessel on a transpacific voyage, have been presented. A generalized algorithm for programming the route leading through the ECA zone according to the least fuel criterion has been presented.

Opis:
A significant increase in demand for navigation support systems called Onboard Routing Systems (ORS) can be observed in the World’s merchant fleet. ORS is a navigation-support system that enables route programming to warn of dangers and navigation constraints and determine the required route-safety level directly onboard the vessel. In this article, an attempt to analyze and compare two ORS systems has been made: the Ship Performance Optimization System (SPOS), by the Meteo Consult Group; and the Bon Voyage system by Applied Weather Technologies (AWT). Individual items, methods, and criteria of both systems for optimization and weather forecasting models utilized have been compared. Particular attention has been paid to the usefulness of the systems regarding the problem of identification and avoidance of hazards such as tropical cyclones and wave resonance. Ergonomics of both systems has also been compared.

Opis:
Rozwój turystyki i korzyści wynikające z koncentracji ruchu turystycznego mogą wystąpić w miejscach, które będą w stanie zainteresować turystę. Wśród nich znajdują się obszary leśne i przyrodniczo cenne. Ich unikatowość oraz funkcje wypoczynkowe są istotnymi motywatorami podróży o charakterze turystycznym. Oddziaływanie funkcji turystycznej na inne funkcje gospodarcze lasów może być zarówno pozytywne, jak i negatywne. Dlatego w pracy dokonano próby określenia znaczenia funkcji turystycznej w gospodarce lasów na przykładzie LKP „Lasy Rychtalskie” poprzez diagnozę eufunkcji i dysfunkcji turystyki na tym obszarze. Pozwoliło to na przedstawienie oddziaływania funkcji turystycznej na inne funkcje gospodarcze lasów oraz ukazanie relacji pomiędzy nimi o charakterze komplementarnym i substytucyjnym. Okazało się, iż ekonomiczne znaczenie turystyki, z punktu widzenia głównych podmiotów zarządzających, ma charakter marginalny, głownie będąc źródłem kosztów.
Development of tourism and benefits from concentration of tourism movement can appear in places which will be able to interest peoples. Forests and nature valuable areas are in these. Their unique value and functions connected to rest are important motivations of tourist trips. But influence of tourist function of the forest at another functions can by as well positive as negative. That is why the aim of the paper is to try to prescribe significance of the tourist function in the economy of the State Forest e.g. Promotional Forest Complex “Lasy Rychtalskie”. Authors made diagnosis of eufunction’s and dysfunction’s of tourism at this area. This let to show influence of tourist function at another economical functions of forest and to show relations between them. These relations can be complimentary or substitute. It was fined small significance of tourist for this area from the point of view of the State Forest Units and another main managers. It is mainly source of costs.

Opis:
The article describes various methods used for tropical cyclone avoidance maneuvers during navigation in restricted and coastal waters. The avoidance maneuvers were carried out with the use of the following methods: the ORS (Onboard Routing System) systems, Bon Voyage 7.0 and SPOS 7.0, the 1-2-3 rule recommended by the US national weather administration NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), the graphic-manual anti-collision plot, as well as the assistance and recommendations of the shore based AWT (Applied Weather Technologies) Centre. The weather and operational data that were used were from the actual voyage of the 9000TEU container ship POSTPANAMX, from Yantian (China) to Vancouver (Canada), which took place in August 2015. During this voyage the ship encountered the tropical cyclone SOUDELOR.

Based upon the true voyages various methods of avoidance maneuver determination in ship - cyclone encounter situations were presented. The goal was to find the economically optimal solution (minimum fuel consumption, maintaining the voyage schedule) while at the same time not to exceed an acceptable weather risk level.
