Opis:
The paper presents formulas which can be used to determine steam condensation pressure in a power plant condenser in off-design conditions. The mathematical model provided in the paper makes it possible to calculate the performance of the condenser in terms of condensing steam pressure, cooling water temperature at the condenser outlet, and condenser effectiveness under variable load conditions as a function of three input properties: the temperature and the mass flow rate of cooling water at the condenser inlet and the mass flow rate of steam. The mathematical model takes into account values of properties occurring in reference conditions but it contains no constant coefficients which would have to be established based on data from technical specifications of a condenser or measurement data. Since there are no such constant coefficients, the model of the steam condenser proposed in the paper is universally applicable. The proposed equations were checked against warranty measurements made in the condenser and measurement data gathered during the operation of a 200 MW steam power unit. Based on the analysis, a conclusion may be drawn that the proposed means of determining pressure in a condenser in off-design conditions reflects the condenser performance with sufficient accuracy. This model can be used in optimization and diagnostic analyses of the performance of a power generation unit.

Opis:
The main purpose of research is comparison of the following modern operating systems: Windows 10, Windows 11, MacOS Catalina and Linux Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. An analysis was made in terms of functionalities and time needed to perform basic activities. The systems were selected on the basis on performed popularity analysis, by using StatCounter statistic. To study each operating system it was necessary to create two test stands corresponding to the requirements of the systems. Conducted research were divided on two sections. In the first one, analysis of the possessed functionalities, assessment of the advancement and ease of using them was performed. In the second section, examination was carried out to compare the operating system in terms of the time of performing specific activities.

Opis:
Vitamin D3 (1,25(OH)2D3 (1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3)) is a hormone playing a crucial role in numerous biological processes in the human body, including induction and control of cell proliferation and differentiation. Numerous data relate the vitamin D3 level with various types of cancer. It has been suggested that SNPs in the vitamin D3 receptor (VDR) gene might influence both the risk of cancer occurrence and cancer progression. The aim of this study was to search for genetic correlations between individual SNPs in the VDR gene and the risk of oral cavity carcinoma. Two SNPs were selected based on the literature and our previous results. Seventy-three patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck and one hundred control subjects were investigated. Two SNPs in the VDR gene were genotyped in minisequencing reactions followed by capillary electrophoresis. Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (HWE), the χ2 test and logistic regression were used for statistical analysis. The SNP rs2238135 in the VDR gene displayed statistical differences in frequency between the tested groups (p=0,0007). Furthermore, the G/C genotype of the rs2238135 in the VDR gene was characterized by a 3.16 fold increased risk of oral cavity carcinoma. The obtained results provide evidence for a genetic association between rs2238135 in the VDR gene and the occurrence and risk of oral cavity cancer.

Opis:
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative brain disease. Thus, drugs including donepezil, rivastigmine, and galantamine are not entirely effective in the treatment of this multifactorial disease. The present study evaluates eight derivatives (3a–3h) as candidates with stronger anti-AD potential but with less side effects. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) assays were used to assess oxidative stress which involve in the neurodegeneration. The neuroprotective properties of 3e against oxidative stress were done in three experiments using MTT test. The anti-AD potential was determined based on their anticholinesterase inhibition ability, determined using Ellman’s method, Aβ aggregation potential according to thioflavin (Th) fluorescence assay, and their antioxidative and anti-inflammatory activities. Compound 3e exhibited moderate cholinesterase inhibition activity (AChE, IC$_{50}$ = 0.131 µM; BuChE, IC50 = 0.116 µM; SI = 1.13), significant inhibition of Aβ(1–42) aggregation (55.7%, at 5 µM) and acceptable neuroprotective activity. Extensive analysis of in vitro and in vivo assays indicates that new cyclopentaquinoline derivatives offer promise as candidates for new anti-AD drugs.

Opis:
A series of new tetrahydroacridine and 3,5-dichlorobenzoic acid hybrids with different spacers were designed, synthesized, and evaluated for their ability to inhibit both cholinesterase enzymes. Compounds 3a, 3b, 3f, and 3g exhibited selective butyrylcholinesterase (EqBuChE) inhibition with IC50 values ranging from 24 to 607 nM. Among them, compound 3b was the most active (IC50 = 24 nM). Additionally, 3c (IC50 for EeAChE = 25 nM and IC50 for EqBuChE = 123 nM) displayed dual cholinesterase inhibitory activity and was the most active compound against acetylcholinesterase (AChE). Active compound 3c was also tested for the ability to inhibit Aβ aggregation. Theoretical physicochemical properties of the compounds were calculated using ACD Labs Percepta and Chemaxon. A Lineweaver-Burk plot and docking study showed that 3c targeted both the catalytic active site (CAS) and the peripheral anionic site (PAS) of AChE. Moreover, 3c appears to possess neuroprotective activity and could be considered a free-radical scavenger. In addition, 3c did not cause DNA damage and was found to be less toxic than tacrine after oral administration; it also demonstrated little inhibitory activity towards hyaluronidase (HYAL), which may indicate that it possesses anti-inflammatory properties. The screening for new in vivo interactions between 3c and known receptors was realized by yeast three-hybrid technology (Y3H).
