Opis:
Dependent type theory has been applied to natural language semantics to provide a formally precise and computationally adequate account of dynamic aspects of meaning. One of the frameworks of natural language semantics based on dependent type theory is Dependent Type Semantics (DTS), which focuses on the compositional interpretations of anaphoric expressions. In this paper, we extend the framework of DTS with a mechanism to handle logical entailment and presupposition associated with factive verbs such as know. Using the notion of proof objects as first-class objects, we provide a compositional account of presuppositional inferences triggered by factive verbs. The proposal also gives a formal reconstruction of the type-distinction between propositions and facts, and thereby accounts for the lexical semantic differences between factive and non-factive verbs in a typetheoretical setting.

Opis:
Hot shock compaction method was utilized for the consolidation of MAX phase composites consisting of Ti, Al and C. This paper presents the production of dense, crack-free composites by combining the combustion synthesis with explosive detonation. Another objective is to investigate various properties of the obtained shock-compacts. The shock compacted materials were post-annealed at 1173 K for releasing the shock-induced strain. As a result, these compacts had strong interparticle bonding strength and few macro cracks. Intermetallic compounds (TiAl, Ti2Al and Ti3Al) and non-oxide ceramics (TiC and Ti4Al2C2) were detected in as-synthesized and annealed materials by X-ray diffraction experiments. Also, lamella structures of Ti4Al2C2 phase were observed by SEM. It was known that the coefficient of thermal expansion increased with increasing temperature, and decreased with increasing TiC content.

Opis:
A systematic analysis of the absolute differential cross sections (DCSs) for electron scattering by halogen-containing molecules CF3X (X = H, F, Cl, Br, I) has been performed with impact energy and scattering angle ranging from 1.5 to 100 eV and 15 to 130°, respectively. Three of the results of these experiments are described in the present report. Firstly, a clear difference is demonstrated in the elastic-scattering cross section angular distributions of polar and nonpolar molecules with the substitution of one of the F atoms in CF4 for a H, Cl, Br or I atom. Secondly, vibrational excitation spectra of the unresolved composite modes (mainly CF3 stretching) for CF3X reveal a common broad structure in the region from 7 to 9 eV due to shape resonance. The third result presented is the observation of a low-lying electronic state of CF3Cl, CF3Br, and CF3I. This feature is enhanced at lower incident energies and larger scattering angles. Also discussed are some preliminary results on the formation of negative and neutral fragments from SiF4 and CH4 by electron impact.

Opis:
Here we present a new approach for constraining luminous blazars, incorporating fully time-dependent and selfconsistent modeling of bright $\gamma$-ray flares of PKS 1510–089, resolved with Fermi-LAT, in the framework of the internal shock scenario. The results of our modeling imply the location of the $\gamma$-ray flaring zone to be outside of the broad-line region, namely around \simeq 3 pc from the core for a free-expanding jet with the opening angle $\Gamma\Theta_{jet}\simeq 1$ (where $\Gamma$ is the jet bulk Lorentz factor), up to $\simeq 3$ pc for a collimated outflow with \Gamma\Theta_{jet}\simeq 0.1. Moreover, under the $\Gamma\Theta_{jet}\simeq 1$ condition, our modeling indicates the maximum efficiency of the jet production during the flares, with the total jet energy flux strongly dominated by protons and exceeding the available accretion power in the source. This is in contrast to the quiescence states of the blazar, characterized by lower jet kinetic power and an approximate energy equipartition between different plasma constituents. We demostrate how strictly simultaneous observations of flaring PKS 1510–089 at optical, X-ray, and GeV photon energies, on hourly timescales, augmented by extensive simulations as presented in this paper, may help to impose further precise constraints on the magnetization and opening angle of the emitting region. In addition, our detailed modeling implies that a nonuniformity of the Doppler factor across the jet, caused by the radial expansion of the outflow, may lead to a pronounced time distortion in the observed $\gamma$-ray light curves, resulting, in particular, in asymmetric flux profiles with substantially extended decay phases.

Opis:
The present study was conducted to analyze the ratification status of International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions related to occupational safety and health (OSH) by ILO member states in terms of national indicators (length of ILO membership and national income status) and regional affiliation. 17 conventions designated as OSH-related by the 2003 International Labour Conference were examined. In general, countries with longer ILO membership ratified higher numbers of conventions related to OSH. With some variation, long-membership countries had the largest number of ratifications, followed by middle- and shortmembership countries in all regions. There were also incremental increases in the number of ratifications for OSH-related conventions according to the national income status. Common regional characteristics that could not be explained by the factors studied also existed. Future efforts to increase ratification at an international level will need to consider the factors influencing ratification practice among the member states.

Opis:
Slow dynamics of the initially photoinduced state has been observed by the pump-probe type time-resolved reflection spectroscopy in the charge separated phase of the half-filled strong dimer system, $Et_2Me_2Sb[Pd(dmit)_2]_2$ (dmit = 1,3-dithiol-2-thione-4,5-dithiolate). We have succeeded to reproduce the probe photon energy dependence of the time profile qualitatively in the time delay range from 10 ps to 1 ns assuming the dynamical expansion of the domain of the photo-induced dimer-Mott insulating phase in the host charge-separated one.

Six years of Fermi-LAT and multi-wavelength monitoring of the broad-line radio galaxy 3c 120 : jet dissipation at sub-parsec scales from the central engine

Opis:
We present multi-wavelength monitoring results for the broad-line radio galaxy 3C 120 in the MeV/GeV, sub-millimeter, and 43 GHz bands over 6 yr. Over the past 2 yr, the Fermi-Large Area Telescope sporadically detected 3C 120 with high significance and the 230 GHz data also suggest an enhanced activity of the source. After the MeV/GeV detection from 3C 120 in MJD 56240–56300, 43 GHz Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) monitoring revealed a brightening of the radio core, followed by the ejection of a superluminal knot. Since we observed the $\gamma$-ray and VLBA phenomena in temporal proximity to each other, it is naturally assumed that they are physically connected. This assumption was further supported by the subsequent observation that the 43 GHz core brightened again after a $\gamma$-ray flare occurred around MJD 56560. We can then infer that the MeV/GeV emission took place inside an unresolved 43 GHz core of 3C 120 and that the jet dissipation occurred at sub-parsec distances from the central black hole (BH), if we take the distance of the 43 GHz core from the central BH as $\sim$ 0.5 pc, as previously estimated from the time lag between X-ray dips and knot ejections. Based on our constraints on the relative locations of the emission regions and energetic arguments, we conclude that the $\gamma$ rays are more favorably produced via the synchrotron self-Compton process, rather than inverse Compton scattering of external photons coming from the broad line region or hot dusty torus. We also derived the electron distribution and magnetic field by modeling the simultaneous broadband spectrum.
