Opis:
Refractory coatings based on different refractory fillers (talc, cordierite, zircon and mullite) for application in Lost Foam casting process were investigated. Design and optimization of the coatings composition with controlled, rheological properties included, and consequently synthesis were achieved by application of different coating components, namely different suspension agents and fillers and by alteration of the coating production procedure. Morphologic and microstructural analysis of fillers was carried out by means of scanning electronic microscope. X-ray diffraction analysis by means of X-ray diffractometer was applied in determination and monitoring the phase composition changes of the refractory fillers. An analysis of the particle size and shape was carried out by means of the PC software application package OZARIA 2.5. To assess the effects of application of individual refractory coatings, a detailed investigation of structural and mechanical properties of the moldings obtained was performed. Highlight was placed on revealing and analyzing surface and volume defects present on moldings. Radiographic molding tests were carried out by means of the X-ray device SAIFORT type-S200. Attained results are essential for the synthesis of refractory coatings based on high-temperature fillers and their applications in Lost Foam casting process for manufacturing of moldings with in-advance-set properties.
W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań materiałów wysokotemperaturowych - powłok ogniotrwałych na bazie talku, kordierytu. cyrkonii i mulitu, które są stosowane w procesie odlewania metodą piany traconej. Projektowanie i optymalizację składu powłoki o kontrolowanych właściwościach teologicznych, a następnie syntezę osiągnięto poprzez zastosowanie różnych skład- ników powłok, tj. różnych stabilizatorów zawiesiny i wypełniaczy oraz poprzez zmiany w procesie produkcji powłok. Analizę morfologiczną i mikrostruktura!ną wypełniaczy przeprowadzono za pomocą elektronowego mikroskopu skaningowego. Analizę dyfrakcji promieni rentgenowskich zastosowano do określania i monitorowania zmian składu fazowego wypełniaczy ognio- trwałych. Analizę wielkości i kształtu cząstek przeprowadzono za pomocą pakietu oprogramowania użytkowego PC OZARIA 2.5. Żeby ocenić skutki stosowania poszczególnych powłok ogniotrwałych, przeprowadzono szczegółowe badania właściwości strukturalnych i mechanicznych otrzymanych form.

Opis:
The efficiency of talc mechanical activation by means of two different mechano-activators - centrifugal and attrition mill is investigated in this study and the comparative analysis of the characteristics of obtained talc powders is presented. A new approach for obtaining high-grade talc concentrate with low Fe2O3 content is achieved through effect of mechanical activation of talc accompanied by hydrometallurgical process. The applied mechanical activation process conditions of ultra-centrifugal mill were defined by number of rotor revolutions, sieve mesh size, and current intensity. These operating parameters of the ultra-centrifugal mill were variable. Ultra fine grinding of talc in attrition mill (attritor) was carried out in various time intervals - from 5 to 15 min. The following technological parameters of the mechanical activation were monitored: time of mechanical activation, circumferential rotor speed, capacity of ultra-centrifugal mill, and specific energy consumption. The investigation was based on a kinetic model. The structure and behavior of activated samples were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, and differential thermal analysis (DTA).

Opis:
Research of HE warheads lethal zone is very complex topic because of large number of controlled and independent, sometimes correlated, influencing factors. Capability for prediction of lethal zone is based on complexity of databases regarding natural fragmentation parameters, which should contain data about warhead body material characteristics, types of explosive charge, number, mass, initial velocity and spatial distribution of fragments, battlefield terrain, distribution of soldiers on battlefield, etc. Based on experimental research (fragmentation test in Arena facilities with two types of artillery projectiles and two types of rocket warheads), analytical and numerical methods used - projectiles lethal zones are predicted and analyzed. Influence of projectile design and explosive charges on warhead lethal zone is analyzed.

Opis:
A modular computer program named SPPMEF has been developed which isintended for purposes of predicting internal ballistic performances of solid propellantrocket motors. The program consists of the following modules: TCPSP (Calculation of thermo-chemical properties of solid propellants), NOZZLE (Dimensioning of nozzle and estimation of losses in rocket motors), GEOM (This module consists of two parts: a part for dimensioning of the propellant grain and a part for regression of burning surface) and ROCKET (This module provides prediction of an average delivered performance, as well as mass flow, pressure, thrust and impulse as functions of burning time). The program is verified with experimental results obtained from standard ballistic rocket test motors and experimental rocket motors. Analysis of results has shown that the established model enables high accuracy in prediction of solid propellant rocket motors features in cases where influence of combustion gases flow on burning rate is not significant.

Opis:
Solid propellant rocket motors for Shoulder Launched Infantry Weapon Systems (SLWS) are characterized with a very short burning time, high-pressure combustion and a wide spectrum of design solutions for rocket motor structure. Interior ballistic behaviour of such rocket motors depends on many factors such as design structure, propellant grain shape, propellant grain joint to the rocket motor case, type and location of the igniter, spinning mode and nozzle design. Erosive burning also plays important role due to high combustion gases mass flow rate. Numerical simulation of the igniter combustion gases flow through the hollow of the propellant grain tubes with gas temperature distribution was carried out in this paper. Results confirmed assumptions that igniter interior gas flow affected duration of the pressure rise. A mathematical model approach for prediction of the curve p = f(t) which was included in a model of the corrected propellant grain burning surface for two types of short-time rocket motors has been presented. A good agreement with measured curves was achieved.

Opis:
Optical absorption and emission spectroscopy together with low energy electron interaction (elastic scattering, excitation, ionization, resonances) with biologically relevant molecules (nitrogen, oxygen, water, alcohols, tetrahydrofuran, tetrahydrofurfuril alcohol, 3-hydroxytetrahydrofuran, pyrimidine, glycine, alanine) are studied in order to understand radiation damage and to investigate the presence of pollutants in the atmosphere. Versatile high resolution electron spectrometers are used in the present study of electron-molecule interactions. Energy loss spectra were recorded for these molecules in order to identify electronic transitions from ground state to both allowed and optically forbidden states. Optical emission spectra have been recorded from gas discharge processes by low resolution optical spectrometer (Ocean Optics 2000). Also, electronic spectra were compared with high resolution synchrotron photoabsorption spectra where these spectra had been available. Experimental methods of absorption-based laser spectroscopy were reviewed being of the most widely used analytical tools for detection of a specific molecule and quantitative measurements, based on the Beer-Lambert absorption law.

Opis:
Aims. Amongst more than fifty blazars detected in very high energy (VHE, E> 100 GeV) γ rays, only three belong to the subclass of flat spectrum radio quasars (FSRQs). The detection of FSRQs in the VHE range is challenging, mainly because of their soft spectra in the GeV-TeV regime. MAGIC observed PKS 1510−089 (z = 0.36) starting 2012 February 3 until April 3 during a high activity state in the high energy (HE, E> 100 MeV) $\gamma$-ray band observed by AGILE and Fermi. MAGIC observations result in the detection of a source with significance of 6.0 standard deviations (σ). We study the multi-frequency behaviour of the source at the epoch of MAGIC observation, collecting quasi-simultaneous data at radio and optical (GASP-WEBT and F-Gamma collaborations, REM, Steward, Perkins, Liverpool, OVRO, and VLBA telescopes), X-ray (Swift satellite), and HE $\gamma$-ray frequencies. Methods. We study the VHE $\gamma$-ray emission, together with the multi-frequency light curves, 43 GHz radio maps, and spectral energy distribution (SED) of the source. The quasi-simultaneous multi-frequency SED from the millimetre radio band to VHE γ rays is modelled with a one-zone inverse Compton model. We study two different origins of the seed photons for the inverse Compton scattering, namely the infrared torus and a slow sheath surrounding the jet around the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) core. Results. We find that the VHE $\gamma$-ray emission detected from PKS 1510−089 in 2012 February-April agrees with the previous VHE observations of the source from 2009 March-April. We find no statistically significant variability during the MAGIC observations on daily, weekly, or monthly time scales, while the other two known VHE FSRQs (3C 279 and PKS 1222+216) have shown daily scale to sub-hour variability. The $\gamma$-ray SED combining AGILE, Fermi and MAGIC data joins smoothly and shows no hint of a break. The multi-frequency light curves suggest a common origin for the millimetre radio and HE $\gamma$-ray emission, and the HE $\gamma$-ray flaring starts when the new component is ejected from the 43 GHz VLBA core and the studied SED models fit the data well. However, the fast HE $\gamma$-ray variability requires that within the modelled large emitting region, more compact regions must exist. We suggest that these observed signatures would be most naturally explained by a turbulent plasma flowing at a relativistic speed down the jet and crossing a standing conical shock.

Opis:
The exploration of the universe has recently entered a new era thanks to the multi-messenger paradigm, characterized by a continuous increase in the quantity and quality of experimental data that is obtained by the detection of the various cosmic messengers (photons, neutrinos, cosmic rays and gravitational waves) from numerous origins. They give us information about their sources in the universe and the properties of the intergalactic medium. Moreover, multi-messenger astronomy opens up the possibility to search for phenomenological signatures of quantum gravity. On the one hand, the most energetic events allow us to test our physical theories at energy regimes which are not directly accessible in accelerators; on the other hand, tiny effects in the propagation of very high energy particles could be amplified by cosmological distances. After decades of merely theoretical investigations, the possibility of obtaining phenomenological indications of Planck-scale effects is a revolutionary step in the quest for a quantum theory of gravity, but it requires cooperation between different communities of physicists (both theoretical and experimental). This review, prepared within the COST Action CA18108 "Quantum gravity phenomenology in the multi-messenger approach", is aimed at promoting this cooperation by giving a state-of-the art account of the interdisciplinary expertise that is needed in the effective search of quantum gravity footprints in the production, propagation and detection of cosmic messengers.

Opis:
OT 081 is a well-known, luminous blazar that is remarkably variable in many energy bands. We present the first broadband study of the source, which includes very high energy (VHE, E > 100 GeV) γ-ray data taken by the MAGIC (Major Atmospheric Gamma-ray Imaging Cherenkov telescopes) and H.E.S.S. (High Energy Stereoscopic System) imaging Cherenkov telescopes. The discovery of VHE γ-ray emission happened during a high state of γ-ray activity in July 2016, observed by many instruments from radio to VHE γ-rays. We identify four states of activity of the source, one of which includes VHE γ-ray emission. Variability in the VHE domain is found on daily time-scales. The intrinsic VHE spectrum can be described by a power law with index 3.27 $\pm$ 0.44$_{stat} \pm$ 0.15$_{sys}$ (MAGIC) and 3.39 $\pm$ 0.58$_{stat} \pm$ 0.64$_{sys}$ (H.E.S.S.) in the energy range of 55–300 and 120–500 GeV, respectively. The broadband emission cannot be successfully reproduced by a simple one-zone synchrotron self-Compton model. Instead, an additional external Compton component is required. We test a lepto-hadronic model that reproduces the data set well and a proton-synchrotron-dominated model that requires an extreme proton luminosity. Emission models that are able to successfully represent the data place the emitting region well outside of the broad-line region to a location at which the radiative environment is dominated by the infrared thermal radiation field of the dusty torus. In the scenario described by this flaring activity, the source appears to be a flat spectrum radio quasar (FSRQ), in contrast with past categorizations. This suggests that the source can be considered to be a transitional blazar, intermediate between BL Lac and FSRQ objects.
