Opis:
We establish a duality for two lactorization questions, one for general positive definite (p.d.) kernels K, and the other for Gaussian processes, say V. The latter notion, for Gaussian processes is stated via Ito-integration. Our approach to factorization for p.d. kernels is intuitively motivated by matrix factorizations, but in infinite dimensions, subtle measure theoretic issues must be addressed. Consider a given p.d. kernel K, presented as a covariance kernel for a Gaussian process V. We then give an explicit duality for these two seemingly different notions of factorization, for p.d. kernel K, vs for Gaussian process V. Our result is in the form of an explicit correspondence. It states that the analytic data which determine the variety of factorizations for K is the exact same as that which yield factorizations for V. Examples and applications are included: point-processes, sampling schemes, constructive discretization, graph-Laplacians, and boundary-value problems.

Opis:
The effects of Mg and Ca on sulfide modification of sulphur steel were studied to elucidate the difference between micromagnesium treatment and micro-calcium treatment for the inclusion of sulphur steel. The results show that the inclusions in the steel appeared with an oxide core of Al2O3 and MnS wrapped. After the addition of Mg, the core was changed to spinel, and the MnS coating was changed to Mn-Mg-S. After Ca was added, the core was changed to Ca-Al-O, and the MnS coating was changed to Mn-Ca-S. The Mg content was higher than Ca content in the sulfides of the steel. Therefore, Mg was more effective than Ca in terms of sulfide modification with the same content of Mg and Ca in steel, but the yielding rate of Mg was lower than that of Ca. The Mg content in the oxide core was higher than Mg of the coating of the inclusions in the steel treated with Mg or Mg-Ca. In contrast, the Ca content in the oxide core was lower than Ca of the coating of the inclusions in the steel treated with Ca or Mg-Ca. MnS formed and precipitated during the melt solidification process. The complex sulfide (Mg-Mn-S) was precipitated around MgO·Al2O3 in the Mg treated steel during the cooling process. CaS inclusion was precipitated on the CaO·Al2O3 inclusions in the liquid Ca-treated steel. Thus, CaS was formed first, whereas MnS was formed during the cooling process, followed by the formation of complex sulfide (CaS+MnS), which finally precipitated around CaO·Al2O3 in the Ca-treated steel.

Opis:
In this work, a carbon dioxide laser was used for the color-fading treatment of cotton/kapok denim fabrics. The results were analyzed thoroughly and compared with those of cotton denim fabric and PET denim fabric. Results showed that with laser treatment, the fabrics were colour-faded, and the K/S value of cotton/kapok fabric was reduced, while there was little change in the thickness and permeability. Because the internal air of the kapok fiber was squeezed out, the tensile strength of the fabric was decreased. The influence of laser power and speed on the kapok denim was also investigated. With an increase in the laser power and decrease in the speed, both the K/S values and strength decreased significantly. However, the changes were negligible for the thickness and permeability of the cotton/kapok denim fabric. It is therefore concluded that kapok is a good denim fabric material for the laser process.
Wyniki analizowano i porównywano z wynikami uzyskiwanymi z tkanin denim z bawełny i PET. Jednakże, zmiany grubości i przepuszczalności powietrza były minimalne. Stwierdzono, że włókna kapok są dobrym materiałem do tkanin typu denim.

Opis:
Results of two-probe magnetoresistance studies in GaN:Si/(Ga,Mn)N/GaN:Si prospective spin filter structures are reported. It is postulated that transport characteristics are strongly influenced by highly conductive threading dislocations and that shrinking of the device size partially mitigates the issue. Simultaneously, maxima at ≈1500 Oe on overall weak, up to 2%, negative magnetoresistance are seen at low temperature, whose origin has been tentatively assigned to effects taking place at the contacts areas.

Opis:
Metagenomics has revolutionized our understanding of microbial communities, offering unprecedented insights into their genetic and functional diversity across Earth’s diverse ecosystems. Beyond their roles as environmental constituents, microbiomes act as symbionts, profoundly influencing the health and function of their host organisms. Given the inherent complexity of these communities and the diverse environments where they reside, the components of a metagenomics study must be carefully tailored to yield accurate results that are representative of the populations of interest. This Primer examines the methodological advancements and current practices that have shaped the field, from initial stages of sample collection and DNA extraction to the advanced bioinformatics tools employed for data analysis, with a particular focus on the profound impact of next-generation sequencing on the scale and accuracy of metagenomics studies. We critically assess the challenges and limitations inherent in metagenomics experimentation, available technologies and computational analysis methods. Beyond technical methodologies, we explore the application of metagenomics across various domains, including human health, agriculture and environmental monitoring. Looking ahead, we advocate for the development of more robust computational frameworks and enhanced interdisciplinary collaborations. This Primer serves as a comprehensive guide for advancing the precision and applicability of metagenomic studies, positioning them to address the complexities of microbial ecology and their broader implications for human health and environmental sustainability.
