Opis:
This paper describes a modular neural network (MNN) with fuzzy integration for the problem of signature recognition. Currently, biometric identification has gained a great deal of research interest within the pattern recognition community. For instance, many attempts have been made in order to automate the process of identifying a person’s handwritten signature; however this problem has proven to be a very difficult task. In this work, we propose a MNN that has three separate modules, each using different image features as input, these are: edges, wavelet coefficients, and the Hough transform matrix. Then, the outputs from each of these modules are combined using a Sugeno fuzzy integral and a fuzzy inference system. The experimental results obtained using a database of 30 individual’s shows that the modular architecture can achieve a very high 99.33% recognition accuracy with a test set of 150 images. Therefore, we conclude that the proposed architecture provides a suitable platform to build a signature recognition system. Furthermore we consider the verification of signatures as false acceptance, false rejection and error recognition of the MNN.

Opis:
Subject and purpose of work: The purpose of the study was to identify the marketing system of cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) traditionally used by producers in the provinces of Utcubamba and Bagua in the Amazonas region in Peru. Materials and methods: The study was conducted by means of the diagnostic survey method, using direct interviews with a specified population that consisted of 90 producers out of a total of 1239 affiliates grouped in 3 agricultural organizations. The study was developed in 2017. Results: The cocoa marketing system in the Amazonas region is related to the traditionally used forms and methods of production as well as to the agents involved in it. Conclusions: The cocoa marketing system identified in the provinces under study is a free market governed by laws of supply and demand with the sale of the product to intermediaries mainly in its fresh state and as raw material.
Materiały i metody: Badanie przeprowadzono metodą ankiety diagnostycznej, wykorzystując bezpośrednie wywiady z określoną liczebnie populacją, która wynosiła dokładnie 90 producentów spośród 1239 podmiotów stowarzyszonych w 3 organizacjach rolniczych.

Opis:
We describe two skull fragments of a new morganucodontan from the Cisco Mammal Quarry (Upper Jurassic Morrison Formation), preserving portions of the palate and snout in excellent 3D detail as well as the complete upper postcanine dentition. Morganucodontans are best known by isolated elements and relatively complete skulls of several species of Morganucodon from the Lower Jurassic of Wales and China; this group is fundamental to our understanding of the early evolution of mammals. Cifellilestes ciscoensis gen. et sp. nov. possesses derived features of the snout paired with plesiomorphic construction of the molars; the distal premolars are complex and there is an unusually low count (two) of strongly imbricated molars. This character combination expands craniodental variation for the group. We sampled mudstone from the Cisco Mammal Quarry for ash-fall zircon analysis and obtained a date of 151.50 ± 0.28 Ma. This dates the locality to the earliest Tithonian and slightly younger than other major dated mammalbearing localities in the Morrison Formation. Cifellilestes represents one of the youngest members of this group and extends the record of morganucodontans in North America by more than 30 Ma. Morganucodontans are a rare component of Late Jurassic faunas but display surprising dental diversity through variations in a tooth count and cusp morphology of a deeply conserved, generalized mammalian tooth pattern, which was fully established in brasilodontid (non-mammalian) ancestors at least 80 my prior.

Opis:
In this work, we describe a new method for assessing the refractive correction error in power corrected ophthalmic lenses. The ideal power distribution map corresponding to the lens design to be measured is initially obtained. Then, using some known techniques, the real power distribution map of the lens under test is obtained. Finally, the difference between the two distributions is computed, obtaining a distribution map of the refractive correction error of the lens under analysis. In the paper, we describe the implementation of the proposed method using the Hartmann test to analyze a corrected power ophthalmic lens. The technique is analyzed, and its effects on measurement resolution discussed. This method can be useful to verify the designing errors in the lab or to verify manufacturing errors of ophthalmic lenses during mass production.

Opis:
In this paper we present a technique to measure the radius of curvature of a test sphere based on the relation between acquired images of a circular cosine fringe pattern and size of virtual image formed on the calibration test surface. Radius of curvature is calculated with the exact equation proposed, using the parameters of the optical setup. Fringe pattern evaluation was performed by locating extrema indices. The mathematical formulation as well as the experimental setup and results are presented. After applying a linear fit algorithm to the data as a method of compensation, obtained results show an error within the tolerance established by the ISO 10343 specifications.

Opis:
Extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and intense due to climate change. Yet, little is known about the relationship between exposure to extreme events, subjective attribution of these events to climate change, and climate policy support, especially in the Global South. Combining large-scale natural and social science data from 68 countries (N = 71,922), we develop a measure of exposed population to extreme weather events and investigate whether exposure to extreme weather and subjective attribution of extreme weather to climate change predict climate policy support. We find that most people support climate policies and link extreme weather events to climate change. Subjective attribution of extreme weather was positively associated with policy support for five widely discussed climate policies. However, exposure to most types of extreme weather event did not predict policy support. Overall, these results suggest that subjective attribution could facilitate climate policy support.
