Opis:
The aim of the study reported in this article was to identify the knowledge or skills deficits which make Polish students of foreign languages fail to understand specialised discourse written in their second language (L2). The author analysed the translations proposed by French philology students for a fragment of a French academic text, particularly the translation errors consisting in source text’s meaning transformation (i.e. misinterpretation, incorrect meaning, nonsense). The analysis allows to assume that these errors are the direct result of insufficient knowledge of the L2 in connection with wrong techniques of words’ meaning verification.

Opis:
The aim of this article is to provide an answer to the question about the current state of advancement of computer-assisted translation tools. We assume that several decades of research in the field carried out by the EU institutions in the context of the European integration process have provided the most advanced computer-assisted translation tools available in the biggest translation service in the world, i.e., the Directorate General for Translation of the European Commission. The present work therefore focuses on the following three main types of CAT tools employed by the EU translators: translation memory tools, terminology management tools and machine translation tools. The same types of tools, offered by the EU providers, i.e. SDL and SYSTRAN, are also used by translators working outside the EU structures. We can therefore presume that the EU translation services set work standards which are then accepted by all professional translators. For that reason, in order to define the most probable directions of future development of these tools, this article also reports the current research conducted by the EU in the CAT tools field.

Opis:
Le présent article rapporte les résultats d'une étude sur corpus réalisée afin de définir la fréquence et l’envergure de la non-traduction intentionnelle dans les traductions juridiques. L’étude a été réalisée sur le corpus que forment les publications officielles de l’UE, majoritairement juridiques, accessibles sur le site eur-lex.europa.eu. Les exemples rapportés dans l’article sont tirés des versions anglaise, française et polonaise desdites publications.
The article describes the results of the corpus studies to determine the frequency and scope of the translation strategy involving the deliberate non-translation of selected elements of the source text in legislative and legal texts. The analysis was based on the multilingual official legislative and legal publications of the EU available at eur-lex.europa.eu. The examples quoted in the article come from equipollent versions in English, French and Polish.
Niniejszy artykuł zawiera opis wyników badania korpusowego mającego na celu ustalenie częstotliwości i zakresu stosowania techniki tłumaczeniowej polegającej na zamierzonym nietłumaczeniu wybranych elementów tekstu wyjściowego w tekstach prawnych i prawniczych. Analizę przeprowadzono w oparciu o korpus, jakim jest zbiór wielojęzycznych oficjalnych publikacji prawnych i prawniczych UE, dostępny na stronie eur-lex.europa.eu. Przytoczone w artykule przykłady pochodzą z angielskiej, francuskiej oraz polskiej wersji językowej tychże dokumentów.

Opis:
The study area is located in the tectonized area - the Dukla Nappe thrust zone. Rocks in this region are highly fractured and disintegrated, which predisposes it to the development of landslides. The movement occurs as a combination of slide (mainly rotational) and flow (mainly debris flow). Landslide initiation takes place in the upper part of the slope, in the spring area, as a slide. Flow is mobilized within the landslide body as a result of high precipitation and intensive water infiltration. Flow-like landslides often “use” existing channel of the catchment to transport material downslope. To show differentiation of flow-like landslides, the author selected six forms observed in the Bukowica Range. The character of flow depends mainly on liquefaction and volume of transported material, as well as on land relief. Keywords: flow, slide, complex landslides, Bukowica Range, flow-like landslides.

Opis:
The modern city takes many processes, often contradictory. One of the city-forming elements is widely understood communication network, such as roads, railways and airports, in an article presented in the context of the inherent noise. The importance of the development of the transport system of the city is axiomatic. With public transport the city is developing. Looking at it from the other side, on a local scale, the development moves away from the source of sound nuisance, outside the zone of noise pollution. This phenomenon is characterized by intensified changing industry nature that requires well-connected locations, resulting in the migration of industrial plants to the vicinity of small towns in the metropolitan area. Predicting potential movements of urban fabric is one way to control the uncontrolled urban sprawl and the guarantor of spatial order. One way to monitor changes in the propagation of noise is an acoustic map, drawn for cities with over 100,000 inhabitants. The impact of noise emitted by the elements of communication is typical not only for big cities, but also small towns located at a distance or near a big city. No need to produce maps for small towns in the face of exurbanisation processes, counter urbanisation processes or the phenomenon of "second homes" appears to be unfounded. In situations where the noise issue has not been tested and diagnosed, small towns remain in the long term exposed to the use of ad hoc measures to protect against noise in the form of architectural elements such as noise barriers with dubious aesthetic value, the decline in property value, and as a result - the impact of noise on development rearrangements.

Introduction and Aim: Aging of the society is a serious problem of the modern world. Elderly people often avoid physical activities which lead to sedentary lifestyle. One suitable forms of physical activity for elderly is aqua gymnastics. The aim of the study was to determine if a larger study, using the chosen methods is feasible. This study tested the hypothesis that performing a 16-week course of aqua gymnastic training would result in improved functional fitness in women aged over 60. Material and Methods: The trial included a sample of 20 women randomly selected from the 100 who responded to the application of research. The measurements such as height, weight, waistline and hip width were conducted before and after a series of exercises in water. Results: After four-month-period of exercises in water an improvement in index value was due to weight loss, a slight decrease in waistline, the basis of the Fullerton Functional Fitness and an improvement in functional efficiency of all tested women was observed. Conclusion: After 16 weeks of aqua aerobic in the group of women aged over 60 a significant functional fitness improvement was observed.
Wstęp: Starzenie się społeczeństwa jest poważnym problemem współczesnego świata. Starsi ludzie często unikają aktywności fizycznej, co prowadzi do siedzącego trybu życia. Jedną z odpowiednich form aktywności ruchowej dla osób starszych jest Aqua gimnastyka. Cel pracy: Celem badania pilotażowego było sprawdzenie, czy sprawność funkcjonalna osób starszych po 16-tygodniowym udziale w Aqua gimnastyce znacząco się poprawi. W badaniu założono hipotezę; że 16-tygodniowy trening Aqua gimnastyki skutecznie zwiększy sprawności funkcjonalną kobiet w wieku powyżej 60. roku życia. Materiał i metoda: Badanie objęło 20 losowo dobranych kobiet spośród 100, które zgłosiły się do udziału w badaniach. Pomiary takie jak: wzrost, waga, obwód talii i bioder przeprowadzono przed i po serii ćwiczeń w wodzie. Wyniki: Po czteromiesięcznym okresie ćwiczeń w wodzie zaobserwowano zmianę wartości pomiarów, odpowiednio spadek masy ciała, niewielki spadek obwodu talii. Na podstawie Fullerton Functional Fitness test stwierdzono poprawę wyników wszystkich prób sprawności funkcjonalnej badanych kobiet. Wniosek:Zaobserwowano znaczną poprawę sprawności funkcjonalnej kobiet w wieku powyżej 60. roku życia po 16-tygodniowym Aqua aerobiku.
