Opis:
Information regarding the correct pedigree of and relationship between animals is useful for managing dairy breeding, reducing inbreeding, estimating breeding value, and establishing correct breeding programs. Additionally, the successful implementation of progeny testing is crucial for improving the genetics of dairy cattle, which depends on the availability of correct pedigree information. Incorrect pedigree information leads to bias in bull evaluation. In this study, Neogen GeneSeek Genomic Profiler (GGP) 50K SNP chips were used to identify and verify the sire of Taiwanese Holstein dairy cattle and analyze the reasons that lead to incorrect sire records. Samples were collected from 2,059 cows of 36 dairy farms, and the pedigree information was provided by breeders. The results of sire verification can be divided into three categories: submitted unconfirmed sire, submitted confirmed sire, and incorrectly submitted verified sire. Data on the sires of 1,323 (64.25%) and 572 (27.78%) dairy cows were verified and discovered, respectively. Sires of 1,895 (92.03%) dairy cattle were identified, which showed that the paternal pedigree of dairy cattle could be discovered and verified through genetic testing. An error-like analysis revealed that the data of 37 sires were incorrectly recorded because the bull’s NAAB code number was incorrectly entered into the insemination records: for 19 sires, the wrong bull was recorded because the frozen semen of a bull placed in the wrong storage tank was used, 6 had no sire records, and for 12 sires, the NAAB code of the correct bull was recorded but with a wrong stud code, marketing code, or unique number for the stud or breed. To reduce recorded sire error rates by at least 27.78%, automated identification of the mated bull must be adopted to reduce human error and improve dairy breeding management on dairy farms.

Opis:
Deep Learning (DL), a groundbreaking branch of Machine Learning (ML), has emerged as a driving force in both theoretical and applied Artificial Intelligence (AI). DL algorithms, rooted in complex and non-linear artificial neural systems, excel at extracting high-level features from data. DL has demonstrated human-level performance in real-world tasks, including clinical diagnostics, and has unlocked solutions to previously intractable problems in virtual agent design, robotics, genomics, neuroimaging, computer vision, and industrial automation. In this paper, the most relevant advances from the last few years in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and several applications to neuroscience, neuroimaging, computer vision, and robotics are presented, reviewed and discussed. In this way, we summarize the state-of-the-art in AI methods, models and applications within a collection of works presented at the 9th International Conference on the Interplay between Natural and Artificial Computation (IWINAC). The works presented in this paper are excellent examples of new scientific discoveries made in laboratories that have successfully transitioned to real-life applications.

Opis:
The effect of electron beam irradiation on magnetic property of iron bearing minerals was investigated by susceptibility measurements. The results show that the magnetic susceptibility of iron bearing sulfide minerals can be enhanced remarkably by strong beam current irradiation, while the magnetic susceptibility of oxidized iron minerals keeps unchanged and even is slightly reduced. The magnetic susceptibility of arsenopyrite can reach the ferromagnetic level. The particle size of irradiated minerals makes notable effects on magnetic susceptibility. The magnetic susceptibility of irradiated minerals is enhanced greatly with reduction of particle size, and the irradiation dose corresponding to the maximum magnetic susceptibility is decreased simultaneously. Exposure of pyrite to small beam current electron irradiation can only enhance its magnetic susceptibility from 4 to 5-fold. Enhancement of magnetic property by radiation induced defects and excitation in minerals is limited. Strong beam current electron irradiation provides a novel approach to enlarge the magnetic property differences between iron bearing minerals.

We present a novel method of self-heterodyne for laser frequency stability estimation in the atmosphere. At the same time, it is used in the Doppler velocity measurement for moving targets in the atmosphere. The transmission range is 16.2 km (round-trip propagation with 8.1 km) in the horizontal atmospheric path, and the measuring results showed that the frequency stability of the whole laser detection system is 53.4 kHz with 20.7 kHz stand deviation. This frequency stability is the integrated influence with the whole detection system not just for the laser, but it can be considered as the estimation of the laser’s frequency stability. It is much more practical for the heterodyne detection in the atmosphere. At last, the method of self-heterodyne was used for 16.2 km round trip velocity measurement. It is showed that the velocity absolute error is less than 1.5 cm/s in the turbulent atmosphere, and the relative error is not higher than 5%.

Opis:
Solution viscosity can be regarded as the most important factor in determining the morphology of the product obtained in electrospinning. Viscosity can be adjusted for a given solution by tuning the solution temperature or by adding fillers to the solution prepared. The electrospinning of PLA solution was performed at a temperature ranging from 25 to 100 °C to determine the effects of temperature on fiber morphology. For the solution of sufficiently high entanglement density (i.e., 20 wt%), the as-spun fiber diameter was in the range of 330 ± 20 nm because the electrospinning was conducted at elevated temperatures. In contrast, for the solution without sufficient entanglement density (i.e., 13 wt%), the solution entanglement density was enhanced by the addition of fillers, which caused the as-spun fibers to become smooth. The fiber diameter obtained was in the range of 90 ± 10 nm. By varying the solution temperature, the chain entanglement status existing in the solution remained intact. In contrast, the chain entanglement density could be enhanced by the addition of fillers. However, both temperature and fillers significantly altered the solution viscosity. Therefore a complete understanding of the temperature and filler effect on the solution and electrospinning gave rise to a feasible route for manipulating the as-spun fiber diameter.
Lepkość roztworu można uznać za najważniejszy czynnik dla określenia morfologii produktu otrzymanego w procesie elektroprzędzenia. Lepkość może być dostosowana do danego roztworu przez regulację temperatury roztworu lub przez dodanie wypełniaczy do przygotowanego wcześniej roztworu. Elektroprzędzenie roztworu PLA prowadzono w zakresie temperatur od 25 do 100 °C w celu wyznaczenia wpływu temperatury na morfologię włókien. Przy roztworach o wysokim stopniu splatania łańcuchów polimeru (np., 20 wt%), dzięki prowadzeniu procesu przędzenia w wysokiej temperaturze udało się zredukować średnicę włókien do 330 ± 20 nm. Przy mniejszym stopniu splatania łańcuchów polimeru (np. 13 wt%) dodawano wypełniacze i uzyskiwano średnice włókien 90 ± 10 nm. Pełne zrozumienie wpływu temperatury i zastosowanych wypełniaczy na roztwór i proces elektroprzędzenia jest ważny dla otrzymywania określonej średnicy przędzonych włókien.

In this study the Maximum Likelihood Estimator is taken to identify the characteristics of insulation failure about the class-H motors by considering the accelerated life testing data under censored situation from Nelson. Based on the Weibull survival modeling the failure is expressed as the series connection of three modes, namely the turn, phase, and ground, respectively, the so-called competing failure. The main concern in present investigation is about the variation of shape parameters, β with the temperature. The Gompertz-type relation of βi(T) is suggested with the reference temperature, Tri for the i-th failure mode. It is found that the Tri ’s not only distinguish the characteristics of cumulative damage process about the insulation, but also involve the estimation of mean-time-to-failure (MTTF). Physically Tri denotes the turning point of varied βi as the i-th failure mode becomes moderate in a sense of less capability about the accumulation of insulation damage at higher temperature where corresponds the thermal degradation process. The numerical results indicate that the insulation technique used is acceptable as the operation temperature kept in the use condition 363K. According to the predicted lifetime as the temperature rises up to 440K, which still within the allowed range in application, the turn structure needs to be rearranged primarily, then the phase next. The ground mode has only influence on the failure at much higher temperature.

Pojedynczy kryształ BaGd2(MoO4)4 domieszkowany 1% at. Er3+ wyhodowano metodą Czochralskiego. Omówiono szczegóły procedury otrzymywania i wzrostu kryształu. Kryształ ma doskonałą płaszczyznę poślizgu (010), a jego łupliwość czyni go przydatnym jako ośrodek czynny w mikrolaserach. Zmierzono widmo absorpcyjne w zakresie światła widzialnego i bliskiej podczerwieni (NIR) w temperaturze pokojowej. W zakresie od 380 do 1600 nm występuje kilka intensywnych pików absorpcyjnych. Zmierzono również widmo fluorescencyjne wzbudzane za pomocą lampy ksenonowej. Zaobserwowano intensywny pik emisyjny NIR 1536 nm. Czasy trwania fluorescencji 4I13/2 oraz 4I11/2 wyznaczone za pomocą dopasowania krzywej wykładniczej wyniosły odpowiednio 5,85 ms i 112,62 μs. Ciepło właściw Er3+ BaGd2(MoO4)4 w 25°C wynosi 0,471 J g-1 K-1. Na podstawie zmierzonych widm obliczono parametry optyczne na podstawie teorii Judda-Ofelta (J–O).
A 1 at % Er3+ doped BaGd2(MoO4)4 single crystal was grown by the Czochralski method. Details on the preparation and growth procedures were discussed. The crystal has a perfect (010) cleavage plane, and the cleavage character makes the crystal suitable as a gain medium for microchip lasers. The absorption spectrum in the visible and near-infrared (NIR) regions was measured at room temperature. There are several strong absorption peaks in the range from 380 to 1600 nm. The fluorescence spectrum excited by a Xenon lamp was also measured. A strong NIR emission peak located at 1536 nm was observed. The fluorescence lifetimes of 4I13/2 and 4I11/23+:BaGd2(MoO4)4 at 25°C is 0.471 J g-1 K-1. Using the measured spectra, the optical parameters were calculated using the J–O theory.
