In recent years, protest activities happened frequently in Taiwan. These protests have had profound conseąuences and changed the landscape of Taiwanese politics. Therefore, it is important to know who protests and why these people protest. This paper aims to answer two questions. First, what kind of people (according to their Socio-Economic Status, SES) is more likely to participate in protest? Second, how does SES influence protest participation? Our hypotheses are drawn from grievance theories, resources model and cultural change theory. We hypothesize that in Taiwan, people with higher SES tend to join in protest. The mechanisms are material condition, civic skills, and the value of post- materialism. Empirically, taking advantage of the World Values Survey 2010-2012, we use confirmatory factor analysis to construct an indicator of SES including education, income, and class. Then, we conduct structural equation modeling to test the mechanisms through which SES exerts influences. We find that in Taiwan, people with higher SES are more likely to protest. Moreover, civic skills are the most important mechanisms. Material condition also has a positive effect. Although the value of post- materialism can influence protest participation, whether people hold this value is unrelated to their SES.

In recent years, assessing supply system impedance has become crucial due to the concerns on power quality and the proliferation of distributed generators. In this paper, a novel method is shown for passive measurement of system impedances using the gapless waveform data collected by a portable power quality monitoring device. This method improves the overall measurement accuracy through data regrouping. Compared with the traditional methods that use the consecutive measurement data directly, the proposed method regroups the data to find better candidates with less flotation on the system side. Simulation studies and extensive field tests have been conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. The results indicate that the proposed method can serve as a useful tool for impedance measurement tasks performed by utility companies.

Opis:
Generative design is used to efficiently generate design solutions with powerful computational methods. Generative design based on shape grammar is currently the most commonly used approach, but it is difficult for shape grammar to formally analyze the generated pattern. Graph grammar derived from one-dimensional character grammar is mainly used for generating and analyzing abstract models of visual languages. However, there is a significant gap between the generated node-edge graphs and the representation of shape appearance. To address these problems, we propose an improved generative design approach based on virtual-node based continuous Coordinate Graph Grammar (vcCGG). This approach defines a new type of grammatical rule named node transformation rules to convert nodes into shapes with node transformation applications. By combining node transformation applications and L-applications in vcCGG, we can generate a node-edge graph as the structure of the pattern through L-applications, and then draw the shape outline, next adjust the positions of these shapes, thus relating abstract structures and the physical layouts of visual languages. At the end of the paper, we provide an example application of this approach: generating an illustration from Emma Talbot using a combination of node transformation applications and L-applications.

In order to grasp the strength characteristics and permeability of chlorite schist, the triaxial compression permeability test of chlorite schist was carried out by using a rock triaxial servo testing machine equipped with seepage device. Based on the test results, the failure strength, initial permeability and permeability development of rock samples under different confining pressure and different pore water pressure are compared, and the failure types of rock samples under triaxial compression permeability and their influence on permeability are analyzed. The results show that the increase of confining pressure is conducive to the improvement of failure strength of chlorite schist, and the increase of pore water pressure reduces the failure strength, which is related to the inhibition of crack development in rock samples by confining pressure and the promotion of crack expansion by pore water pressure. The mechanical deformation of chlorite schist in triaxial compression permeability process has experienced initial compaction stage, linear elastic stage and crack stable propagation to failure stage. As a consequence, permeability shows three trends of decline, stable development and rise, which is closely related to the development of the internal structure of rock samples at each stage. During the failure of triaxial compression permeability, there is a local compression zone in chlorite schist, and the rising rate slows down due to the influence of the compression zone.

Opis:
A hybrid watermarking algorithm with an optical watermark image based on singular value decomposition (SVD) ghost imaging is designed. Simultaneously, the blended watermarking algorithm is designed based on 4-level discrete wavelet transform (DWT), discrete cosine transform (DCT) and singular value decomposition (SVD). The 4-level diagonal sub-band image is obtained by performing 4-level two-dimensional wavelet transform on the original image, and the coefficient matrix is produced by applying the discrete cosine transform on the 4-level diagonal sub-band image. Then, three matrices are obtained by performing the singular value decomposition on the coefficient matrix. In addition, the optical watermark image is encrypted by an SVD ghost imaging system. The system could generate a secret key, and unauthorized users could not decrypt and reconstruct the original watermark image without this key. Later the encrypted watermark image is generated into the other three matrices by singular value decomposition. Afterwards, the encrypted watermark is embedded in the host image by mutual operation of different matrices in the algorithm. Simulation results validate the feasibility of the proposed hybrid watermarking scheme.

Opis:
A new extraction process suitable for treating refractory CuCo2S4 under atmospheric pressure acidic leaching conditions was investigated. The effect of variables such as oxidant species, liquid-to-solid ratio, leaching time, oxidizing agent and mineral quality ratio, H2SO4 concentration, temperature and sodium chloride concentration on the extraction efficiency of Co, Cu and Fe from CuCo2S4 were investigated. Under optimal conditions including P80-P90 of the sample was d < 0.0074 mm, stirring speed of 400 rpm, leaching time of 8 h with sodium chlorate (NaClO3) and mineral quality ratio of 0.5, 2 mol/L H2SO4, liquid-to-solid ratio of 7, leaching temperature of 90°C and 4 mol/L sodium chloride. The leaching efficiency of Co, Cu, and Fe were nearly 97.08%, 100%, and 92.45%, respectively. Furthermore, the contents of cobalt and copper in leaching residue were all less than 0.4 wt.%, which satisfies the requirements of industrial production.

VirulentHunter : deep learning-based virulence factor predictor illuminates pathogenicity in diverse microbial contexts

Virulence factors (VFs) are critical determinants of bacterial pathogenicity, but current homology-based identification methods often miss novel or divergent VFs, and many machine learning approaches neglect functional classification. Here, we present VirulentHunter, a novel deep learning framework that enable simultaneous VF identification and classification directly from protein sequences by leveraging the crucial step of fine-tuning pretrained protein language model. We curate a comprehensive VF database by integrating diverse public resources and expanding VF category annotations. Our benchmarking results demonstrate that VirulentHunter outperforms existing methods, particularly in identifying VFs lacking detectable homologs. Additionally, strain-level analysis using VirulentHunter highlights distinct pathogenicity profiles between Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium, revealing enrichment in VFs related to adherence, effector delivery systems, and immune modulation in M. tuberculosis, compared to biofilm formation and motility in M. avium. Furthermore, metagenomic profiling of gut microbiota from inflammatory bowel disease patient reveals a depletion of VFs associated with immune homeostasis. These results underscore the versatility of VirulentHunter as a powerful tool for VF analysis across diverse applications. To facilitate broader accessibility, we provide a freely accessible web service for VF prediction (http://www.unimd.org/VirulentHunter), accommodating protein sequences, genomes, and metagenomic data.
