Opis:
The design of neonatal intensive care units (NICU) influences both patient safety and clinical outcomes as well as the acoustic conditions. In NICU exposure to sound pressure levels above the recommended can affect both neonates and healthcare staff. This study aimed to evaluate the sound pressure levels and to assess noise perception of professionals in a NICU before and after structural modifications and layout redesign. The measurements were performed with a sound level meter. A questionnaire was given to staff before and after the intervention. The opinion of healthcare staff regarding noise in NICU was better after the intervention, when compared with the responses previously given. The results showed that noise levels were excessive in the NICU (before and after), exceeding the international recommendations, with the levels ranging between 46.6 dBA to 57.8 dBA before and 52.0 dBA to 54.0 dBA after intervention. Overall, there is a need for more research in order to verify the effectiveness of some actions and strategies to reduce the impact of noise in NICU.

Opis:
There are industrial sectors that have been working with traditional EDI systems during the last decades. One of these is car manufacturing. The traditional EDI legacy systems mainly link hub companies and first tier suppliers. During the last years new technologies and techniques have been developed that introduce vital changes in B2B: the Internet, the web and XML Legacy systems mean costly investments and still work satisfactorily; but 42H has to include all the supply chain companies, and all production sectors. This document tries to introduce an ideal model that, taking into account legacy systems, shows the way towards a full integration for enterprises o f all sizes and kind o f activity. This model is a projection o f a real model already developed and working: ComprasAuto, developed by the Centre for Innovation and Services of Galicia (Spain) as an order from CEAGA, a cluster of first and second tier Galician companies in the supply chain of Citroen production plant in Vigo (Galicia).

Opis:
Bronchial atresia corresponds to a congenital anomaly of the airways, in which a bronchial segment presents a focal obstruction. As a result, there are mucoid impactions with or without bronchocele, resulting in air trapping and distention of the lung parenchyma. In the present study, we report the case of a patient incidentally diagnosed with bronchial atresia when undergoing chest computed tomography after performing thoracic sympathectomy as a treatment for palmoplantar hyperhidrosis. Classically, the diagnosis is made incidentally with an asymptomatic patient, but cough, shortness of breath, wheezing, hemoptysis, chest pain, or pneumothorax may be present. There is still no established consensus on the treatment of this pathology, but in asymptomatic patients, the usual approach is conservative, with outpatient follow-up.

Opis:
We describe the development of quinolylnitrones (QNs) as multifunctional ligands inhibiting cholinesterases (ChEs: acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesteraseehBChE) and monoamine oxidases (hMAO-A/B) for the therapy of neurodegenerative diseases. We identified QN 19, a simple, low molecular weight nitrone, that is readily synthesized from commercially available 8-hydroxyquinoline-2-carbaldehyde. Quinolylnitrone 19 has no typical pharmacophoric element to suggest ChE or MAO inhibition, yet unexpectedly showed potent inhibition of hBChE (IC50 Z 1.06 0.31 nmol/L) and hMAO-B (IC50 Z 4.46 0.18 mmol/L). The crystal structures of 19 with hBChE and hMAO-B provided the structural basis for potent binding, which was further studied by enzyme kinetics. Compound 19 acted as a free radical scavenger and biometal chelator, crossed the bloodebrain barrier, was not cytotoxic, and showed neuroprotective properties in a 6-hydroxydopamine cell model of Parkinson’s disease. In addition, in vivo studies showed the anti-amnesic effect of 19 in the scopolamine-induced mouse model of AD without adverse effects on motoric function and coordination. Importantly, chronic treatment of double transgenic APPswe-PS1dE9 mice with 19 reduced amyloid plaque load in the hippocampus and cortex of female mice, underscoring the disease-modifying effect of QN 19.
