Opis:
This paper addresses the problems of robust fault estimation and fault-tolerant control for Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems with time delays and unknown sensor faults. A fuzzy augmented state and fault observer is designed to achieve the system state and sensor fault estimates simultaneously. Furthermore, based on the information of on-line fault estimates, an observer-based dynamic output feedback fault-tolerant controller is developed to compensate for the effect of faults by stabilizing the resulting closed-loop system. Sufficient conditions for the existence of both a state observer and a fault-tolerant controller are given in terms of linear matrix inequalities. A simulation example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Opis:
The Mₙ-matrix was defined by Mohan [21] who has shown a method of constructing (1,-1)-matrices and studied some of their properties. The (1,-1)-matrices were constructed and studied by Cohn [6], Ehrlich [9], Ehrlich and Zeller [10], and Wang [34]. But in this paper, while giving some resemblances of this matrix with a Hadamard matrix, and by naming it as an M-matrix, we show how to construct partially balanced incomplete block designs and some regular graphs by it. Two types of these M-matrices have been considered. Also we will make a mention of certain applications of these M-matrices in signal and communication processing, and network systems and end with some open problems.

Opis:
Gradient descent method is one of the popular methods to train feedforward neural networks. Batch and incremental modes are the two most common methods to practically implement the gradient-based training for such networks. Furthermore, since generalization is an important property and quality criterion of a trained network, pruning algorithms with the addition of regularization terms have been widely used as an efficient way to achieve good generalization. In this paper, we review the convergence property and other performance aspects of recently researched training approaches based on different penalization terms. In addition, we show the smoothing approximation tricks when the penalty term is non-differentiable at origin.

Opis:
Nanothermite composites containing metal oxide and metal fuel are attracting attention due to their outstanding combustion characteristics. The morphology of metal oxide is important for the performance of nanothermite composites. In this paper, branch-, plate-, sphere-, and hollow sphere-like CuO nano/microstructures were synthesized via a facile hydrothermal process. The CuO/Al based nanothermites were prepared via ultrasonic mixing of the asobtained CuO products and nano-Al. The combustion behaviour of CuO/Al based nanothermites was analyzed by DSC and laser ignition. This study shows that this nanoscale mixing resulted in a large interfacial contact area and low diffusional resistance between the fuel and the oxidizer, and the reaction reflects large energy and laser ignition sensitivity.

Opis:
Neuromedin S (NMS), a 36-amino acid neuropeptide, has been found to be involved in the regulation of the endocrine activity. It has been also detected in immune tissues in mammals, what suggests that NMS may play an important role in the regulation of immune response. The aim of this study was to demonstrate the presence of NMS receptor 1 (NMU1R) and effect of NMS in pig splenic lymphocytes (SPLs) and pulmonary alveolar macrophages (PAMs). The presence of NMU1R in pig SPLs and PAMs was respectively confirmed by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), western blot analysis and immunocytochemical methods. Furthermore, SPL proliferation was analyzed using the 3-(4,5)-dimethyl-thiahiazo-(-2-yl)-3,5-di-phenytetrazoliumromide (MTT) method. Additionally, the secretion of interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in PAMs was all measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kits. In the present study, the results of RT-PCR and western blot analysis revealed that NMU1R mRNA and protein were both expressed in pig SPLs and PAMs, and the immunocytochemical investigations further revealed that the positive signal of NMU1R immunoreactivity was observed in plasma membranes of both SPLs and PAMs. In the in vitro study, we found that at concentrations of 0.001-1000 nM NMS alone or combined with lipopolysaccharide or phytohemagglutinin significantly increased SPL proliferation. Application of ELISA method showed that NMS could induce the secretion of the pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1β, IL-6 and TNF-α in PAMs. These results suggest that NMS can act as a potently positive pro-inflammatory factor and immunomodulatory agent that affects the immune response of immune cells by combining with its receptor NMU1R.

Opis:
The study area in the West Junggar Basin is known to be rich in hydrothermal gold deposits and occurrences, even though there has been minimum exploration in the area. It is here hypothesised that this area could host more gold deposits if mineral exploration methods were to be reinforced. This research is aimed at identifying geochemical anomalies of Au, and determining possible factors and conditions which facilitate the formation of anomalies by referring to As and Hg as gold pathfinders. Geostatistical analyst techniques have been applied to 9,852 stream sediments and bedrock data collected on a total surface of 1,280 km2 of West Junggar, Xinjiang (northwest China). The kriging interpolation and quantile-quantile plot methods, combined with statistical methods, successfully identified both Au and its pathfinders’ anomalies. In the present study, median was considered as background values (10.2 ppm for As, 9.13 ppb for Hg and 2.5 ppb for Au), whereas the 95th percentile were threshold values (28.03 ppm for As, 16.71 ppb for Hg and 8.2 ppb for Au) and values greater than thresholds are geochemical anomalies. Moreover, the high concentrations of these three discovered elements are caused primarily by hydrothermal ore mineralisation and are found to be controlled mainly by the Hatu and Sartohay faults of a northeast-southwesterly direction as well as their related secondary faults of variable orientation, which facilitate the easy flow of hydrothermal fluids towards the surface resulting in the formation of geochemical anomalies. Most of anomalies concentration of Au are found near the mining sites, which indicates that the formation of new Au anomalies is influenced by current or previous mining sites through geological or weathering processes. In addition, the low concentration of gold and its pathfinders found far from active gold mine or faults indicates that those anomalies are formed due to primary dispersion of hosting rock.

Opis:
Optical transitions in small band offset superlattices are studied within the framework of the nearly free electron approximation, in which the weak superlattice potential is treated as a perturbation. Interband selection rules are derived for transitions involving conduction and valence band states at the superlattice Brillouin zone center and the zone edge. It is found that a number of new transitions can occur in such small-offset superlattices due to wave function mixing of different subband states. The effect of the effective mass on the optical transitions is also discussed. The theory is used to explain the results observed in magneto-optical absorption experiment in ZnSe/Zn$\text{}_{1-x}$Mn$\text{}_{x}$Se small-offset superlattices. Furthermore, the nearly free electron formulation is found to be in excellent agreement with rigorous multi-band numerical calculation on superlattices involving small band offsets.

Opis:
A scaffold knit with natural sericin-free silk fibroin fiber possesses desirable mechanical properties, biocompatibility, ease of fabrication, and slow degradability. However, regenerated silk fibroin degrades faster than natural silk. In this study, natural silk fibroin fiber mesh-like scaffolds were prepared by a weft-knitting method and the pores were filled with sponge-like regenerated silk fibroin-collagen I. The microporous sponge and mesh-like scaffolds were fused to achieve gradient degradation of the scaffolds, and rabbit bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) were seeded onto the scaffolds to form scaffold–BMSCs composites. The composites were implanted into gap defects made in the rabbit Achilles tendon. Twenty weeks after implantation, histological observation showed that tendon-like tissue had formed, collagen I mRNA was expressed, abundant collagen was generated, and that there was no obvious degradation of silk. The maximum load of the neo-Achilles tendon was 62.14% that of the natural Achilles tendon. These outcomes were superior to those obtained in the group implanted with a scaffold without BMSCs. These findings suggest the feasibility of constructing tissue-engineered tendons using weft-knitted silk scaffolds incorporated with sponge-like regenerated silk fibroin/collagen I and seeded with BMSCs, and show potential of the scaffold–BMSCs composites to repair Achilles tendon defects.

Opis:
We explore the possibility of using electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) of Mn$\text{}^{++}$ for measuring uniaxial strain in II-VI superlattices. This work is motivated by the fact that the EPR spectrum of Mn$\text{}^{++}$ is very strongly affected by crystalline fields. Changes in a crystalline field which arise from strain are thus automatically expected to have a profound effect on the EPR spectrum. Consistent with this expectation, we have observed giant crystal field splittings of Mn$\text{}^{++}$ EPR lines in ZnTe/MnTe, CdTe/MnTe, and ZnTe/MnSe superlattices. The EPR spectra observed in these systems are ascribed to isolated Mn$\text{}^{++}$ ions diffused into the ZnTe or the CdTe layers from the respective MnTe or MnSe layers. In addition to providing precise information oii the magnitude and the sign of strain produced by lattice mismatch between the superlattice constituents, we show that the EPR spectrum also provides a direct measure of strain fluctuations in the layered medium.

Opis:
The normal modes cannot be extracted even in the Pekeris waveguide when the source-receiver distance is very close. This paper introduces a normal mode extraction method based on a dedispersion transform (DDT) to solve this problem. The method presented here takes advantage of DDT, which is based on the waveguide invariant such that the dispersion associated with all of the normal modes is removed at the same time. After performing DDT on a signal received in the Pekeris waveguide, the waveform of resulting normal modes is very close to the source signal, each with different position and amplitude. Each normal mode can be extracted by determining its position and amplitude parameters by applying particle swarm optimization (PSO). The waveform of the extracted normal mode is simply the waveform of the source signal; the real waveform of the received normal mode can then be recovered by applying dispersion compensation to the source signal. The method presented needs only one receiver and is verified with experimental data.
