Opis:
The present work was a study on global reaction rate of methanol synthesis. We measured experimentally the global reaction rate in the internal recycle gradientless reactor over catalyst SC309. The diffusion-reaction model of methanol synthesis was suggested. For model we chose the hydrogenation of CO and CO2 &enspas key reaction. CO and CO2 &enspwere key components in our model. The internal diffusion effectiveness factors of CO and CO2&enspin the catalyst were calculated by the numerical integration. A comparison with the experiment showed that all the absolute values of the relative error were less than 10%. The simulation results showed that decreasing reaction temperature and catalyst diameter were conducive to reduce the influence of the internal diffusion on the methanol synthesis.

Opis:
The production processes included catalytic dehydration of methanol in an adiabatic fixed-bed reactor and two columns product separations. In this study, the technological process for dimethyl ether (DME) synthesis is built on PRO/II platform based on the combined parameters of the reaction dynamic model for methanol dehydration reaction, the improved NRTL model of the liquid phase, the PR model of vapor phase. In order to validate the proposed model, the simulation results have been compared with the available data from a set of industrial production equipment with a production capacity of 200 000 tonnes per annum. A comparison between the calculated and measured results has proved that these results are satisfactory. The bed height and the volume of the catalytic bed are calculated aim at one million t/a DME yields and while taking account of high-purity DME production. After discussing the influence of feed stage location and reflux ratio for DME product purity, the suitable unit operation conditions are chosen. Accordingly, accurate process simulation results provide the basis and guidance for an improvement and development of the similar industrial device.

Opis:
PtSn/Al2O3 &enspcatalysts with a given loading of 1 wt% Pt and 1 wt% Sn were prepared by co-impregnation or successive impregnation with aqueous solutions of Pt, Sn precursors and a commercial alumina. The catalysts were characterized by N2 &enspadsorption, H2-TPR (H2&ensp temperature-programmed reduction), H2-pulse chemisorption, XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) and CO-FTIR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy), and tested in the hydrogenation of acetic acid. The results showed that the preparation method affected both the chemical properties and their performance in the hydrogenation of acetic acid. Sn enrichment on the catalysts surface was observed on the co-impregnated catalyst and catalyst in which the Pt precursor had been loaded first. It was found that the modification of Pt was a function of the sequence of Sn addition as revealed by CO-FTIR. Co-impregnated catalyst showed the highest activity and ethanol selectivity.

Opis:
B-ZSM-5 catalysts were prepared by various modification methods with boric acid, including ion-exchange, impregnation and direct synthesis. The catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), NH3-Temperature Programmed Desorption (NH3-TPD), N2 adsorption-desorption, Fourier Transform Infrared spectrometry (FT-IR), 27Al and 11B MAS NMR spectra. The results revealed that the weak acidity of catalysts was significantly increased by modification. The catalytic activity was measured in a fixed bed at 460°C for methanol to propylene (MTP) reaction. The results of MTP reaction showed a great increment of the propylene selectivity for the boron modified samples, especially for the directly synthesized B-ZSM-5 which also displayed high activity and selectivity towards C2 =-C4 = olefins. It was found that the remarkable selectivity strongly depended on the intensity of weak acidity.

Opis:
Microcellular combustible materials, based on poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) bonded RDX, were fabricated by the pressure quench method using supercritical CO2. After foaming, the bulk density, porosity, expansion ratio and cell density were analyzed. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) has also been used to investigate the influence of the foaming conditions (temperature, saturation pressure and depressurization time) and the RDX ratio on the porous structure. The skin-core structure was also observed after the pressure quench process. The mechanical sensitivities and burning performance were investigated by the friction sensitivity test, the impact sensitivity test and the closed vessel test, respectively.

Opis:
To acquire a better understanding of the early ignition phenomena in a 100 mm ignition simulator loaded with a packed propellant bed, a theoretical model of the ignition gas flow through the rigid porous medium was developed. Three pressure gauges were installed in the lateral side of the ignition simulator for post ignition measurement of the chamber pressure. The pseudo-propellant loaded into the chamber was similar in size to the standard 13/19 single-base cylindrical propellant. It was composed of a rigid ceramic composite with low thermal conductivity. It was assumed that the pseudo-propellant bed was rigid in contrast to the assumption of an elastic porous medium. The calculated pressure values were well verified by the experimental data at a low loading density of the pseudo-propellant bed of 0.18 g•cm-3. However, there was still error between the experimental and the calculated results in the early pressure peak position closest to the ignition primer when the loading density of the pseudo-propellant bed was increased to 0.73 and 1.06 g•cm-3. This error is attributed to the change in local permeability of the pseudo-propellant bed at high loading densities, which is assumed, for ease of modelling, to be constant in the model. These calculations may enable a better understanding of the physical processes of ignition gas flow in an ignition simulator loaded with a pseudo-propellant bed.

Opis:
A laboratory experiment lasting for 90 days was conducted to examine the interaction between a remediation plant, Gossypium hirsutum, and the petroleum contaminated soil. Root indices and 9 various types of soil enzymatic activities in two separate groups were determined. Results showed that compared to the uncontaminated control, the growth of cotton roots was slightly strengthened at the pollution level of 1000 mg-kg-1, while seriously inhibited at the pollution level of 2000 mg-kg-1 and 4000 mg-kg-1. At the same pollution level, all studied soil enzymatic activities except alkaline phosphatase were markedly higher in the group with plants than in the group without plants which may indicate that the content of nutrients essential for plant growth as well as the activities of microorganisms capable of degrading contaminants were both enhanced in soils planted with cotton, therefore conducive to the increase of the overall fertility level and the degradation of pollutants in the petroleum contaminated soil.

Opis:
The arrival of the post-genomic era has allowed the regulation of every gene or protein of an organism to be studied at once using microarrays for transcriptomic studies, proteomics to analyse gene products, and metabolomics to study the complete complement of products and intermediary metabolites produced by a single person or a single organism. Too often the results of such enterprises are disappointing either because many of the products cannot be identified, or because they are products of genes of unknown function. Success is far more likely to be achieved if the organism to be exploited is thoroughly understood at the levels of genome organisation, regulation, physiology and biochemistry.

Opis:
For over three decades, the need for closure (NFC) construct has played a pivotal role in research programs addressing the motivational underpinnings of knowledge formation, judgment and decision making, and social and group cognition. In recent years, NFC research has entered a new phase with notable developments in both fundamental and applied research. The substantial progress in the domain of basic NFC research pertains to investigators’ renewed interest in NFC's essentials, including its motivational nature, its role in the mobilization of task investment, the interplay between closure needs and abilities with implications for the measurement of NFC, its relation to cognitive depletion, its effects on memory phenomena, and its genetic and neural correlates. The second major development pertains to efforts to expand NFC research from the lab environment to real-world settings, including work on NFC effects on groups and organizations, its influence on the development and counteraction of prejudice, and its role in violent extremism. In this chapter, both developmental trends are discussed, highlighting their contributions to an advanced understanding of the motivational underpinnings of human cognition and behavior.
