Opis:
The theoretical research of reflection of bulk magnetoelastic waves in the ferromagnet with isotropic elastic properties has been investigated. It shows calculation of intensities of reflection and transmission of magnetoelastic waves at falling on the boundary of two semi-infinite uniform ferromagnets with different values of parameters of exchange interaction, uniaxial magnetic anisotropy and saturation magnetization; taking into consideration the coupling in the interface, which qualitatively changes the nature of frequency dependences of reflected magnetoelastic waves intensity and dependences on the external uniform permanent magnetic field.

Opis:
The effect of nonequilibrium plasmons on the steady-state high-dc-field response of electron gas in n-GaAs is numerically studied via iterative procedure using the Monte Carlo simulation algorithm for hot-electron transport and the Boltzmann equation for plasmons. The electron population inversion in wave vector space along the electric field is predicted to exist for fields in excess of about 10 kVcm. The plasmon distribution disturbances leave the steady-state velocity at low fields almost unaffected but lead to reduction of that up to 10% for fields around and above the maximum of the velocity-field characteristics.

Opis:
The work is dedicated to comparative investigation of the luminescent properties of Y₃Al₅O₁₂:Pr (YAG:Pr) single crystals and single crystalline films using excitation by synchrotron radiation with an energy of 3.7-25 eV in the exciton range of YAG host. We have found that the differences in the excitation spectra and luminescence decay kinetics of YAG:Pr crystals and films are caused by involving the Y_{Al} antisite defects and oxygen vacancies in the crystals and Pb²⁺ flux related dopants in the films in the excitation processes of the Pr³⁺ luminescence. Taking into account these differences, we have determined in more detail the energy structure of the Pr³⁺ ions in YAG host and estimated the differences in the energies of creation of the excitons bound with the isolated Pr³⁺ ions in YAG:Pr films and the dipole Pr-Y_{Al} antisite defect centers in the crystal counterpart.

Opis:
There is a need for efficient stem cell-to-tenocyte differentiation techniques for tendon tissue engineering. More than 1 week is required for tenogenic differentiation with chemical stimuli, including co-culturing. Research has begun to examine the utility of mechanical stimuli, which reduces the differentiation time to several days. However, the precise length of time required to differentiate human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hBMSCs) into tenocytes has not been clarified. Understanding the precise time required is important for future tissue engineering projects. Therefore, in this study, a method was developed to more precisely determine the length of time required to differentiate hBMSCs into tenocytes with cyclic stretching stimulus. Methods: First, it had to be determined how stretching stimulation affected the cells. Microgrooved culture membranes were used to suppress cell orientation behavior. Then, only cells oriented parallel to the microgrooves were selected and evaluated for protein synthesis levels for differentiation. Results: The results revealed that growing cells on the microgrooved membrane and selecting optimally-oriented cells for measurement improved the accuracy of the differentiation evaluation, and that hBMSCs differentiated into tenocytes in approximately 10 h. Conclusions: The differentiation time corresponded to the time required for cellular cytoskeleton reorganization and cellular morphology alterations. This suggests that cells, when subjected to mechanical stimulus, secrete mRNAs and proteins for both cytoskeleton reorganization and differentiation.

Opis:
Millimeter wave bridge technique for non-destructive material homogeneity characterization is described. The idea of this technique is the local excitation of the millimeter waves in the testing material and the measurement of the transmitted (reflected) wave amplitude and phase in different places of it, i.e. the material plate is scanned by the beam of the millimeter waves. The results of the homogeneity measurements for dielectric wafers according to dielectric constant anisotropy are presented. The measurement technique sensitivity is discussed.

Opis:
The Tb$\text{}_{1.1}$Fe$\text{}_{11-x}$Co$\text{}_{x}$Ti (x = 0, 1, 2, 3, 4) compounds with the ThMn$\text{}_{12}$-type structure were studied by using the torque and magnetization measurements in order to investigate temperature and composition behavior of the magnetocrystalline anisotropy. The Tb$\text{}_{1.1}$(FeCo)$\text{}_{11}$Ti single crystals demonstrated spin reorientation transition from easy axis to easy plane with the decrease in temperature. The substitution of Co for Fe produces an enhancement of the Curie temperatures, decreases temperatures of spin reorientation transition and appearance of canted structure.
