Opis:
Vehicle emission calculation is critical for evaluating motor vehicle related environmental protection policies. Currently, many studies calculate vehicle emissions from integrating the microscopic traffic simulation model and the vehicle emission model. However, conventionally vehicle emission models are presented as a stand-alone software, requiring a laborious processing of the simulated second-by-second vehicle activity data. This is inefficient, in particular, when multiple runs of vehicle emission calculations are needed. Therefore, an integrated vehicle emission computation system is proposed around a microscopic traffic simulation model. In doing so, the relational database technique is used to store the simulated traffic activity data, and these data are used in emission computation through a built-in emission computation module developed based on the IVE model. In order to ensure the validity of the simulated vehicle activity data, the simulation model is calibrated using the genetic algorithm. The proposed system was implemented for a central urban region of Nanjing city. Hourly vehicle emissions of three types of vehicles were computed using the proposed system for the afternoon peak period, and the results were compared with those computed directly from the IVE software with a trivial difference in the results from the proposed system and the IVE software, indicating the validity of the proposed system. In addition, it was found for the study region that passenger cars are critical for controlling CO, buses are critical for controlling CO and VOC, and trucks are critical for controlling NOx and CO2. Future work is to test the proposed system in more traffic management and control strategies, and more vehicle emission models are to be incorporated in the system.

Opis:
In recent years, bridge safety accidents caused by insufficient shear bearing capacity of bridges have attracted increasing attention. The main causes include internal factors such as insufficient bridge section and deterioration of steel bars, as well as external factors, for example, vehicle load surge and improper maintenance. To address this issue to some degree, this article adopts the method of strengthening RC beams with ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) and conducts parameter analysis using finite element method, taking into consideration the influence of four parameters: reinforcement material, reinforcement thickness, reinforcement length, and reinforcement form on the shear strengthening characteristics of RC rectangular beams. After obtaining the optimal reinforcement plan through parameter analysis, the author applied the research results to an existing bridge with insufficient shear strength. It then turned out that the shear bearing capacity of the reinforced bridge’s inclined section increased by approximately 27.1%. Simple and fast in construction, this reinforcement method is one of the methods that is effective to increase cross-section reinforcement; besides, it features good economic characteristics and applicability.

Opis:
Cooperative adaptive cruise control (CACC) for human and autonomous self-driving aims to achieve active safe driving that avoids vehicle accidents or traffic jam by exchanging the road traffic information (e.g., traffic flow, traffic density, velocity variation, etc.) among neighbor vehicles. However, in CACC, the butterfly effect is encountered while exhibiting asynchronous brakes that easily lead to backward shock-waves and are difficult to remove. Several critical issues should be addressed in CACC, including (i) difficulties with adaptive steering of the inter-vehicle distances among neighbor vehicles and the vehicle speed, (ii) the butterfly effect, (iii) unstable vehicle traffic flow, etc. To address the above issues in CACC, this paper proposes the mobile edge computing-based vehicular cloud of the cooperative adaptive driving (CAD) approach to avoid shock-waves efficiently in platoon driving. Numerical results demonstrate that the CAD approach outperforms the compared techniques in the number of shock-waves, average vehicle velocity, average travel time and time to collision (TTC). Additionally, the adaptive platoon length is determined according to the traffic information gathered from the global and local clouds.

Opis:
In recent years, the massive accumulation of industrial by-product gypsum, especially flue gas desulfurization (FGD) gypsum and phosphogypsum (PG), not only encroaches on lands but also causes serious environmental pollution. The preparation of α-calcium sulfate hemihydrate (α-HH) from industrial by-product gypsum is an important way to solve the massive accumulation. α-HH possessing larger, dense and well-grown crystals with fewer cracks and pores has high added value and a wide range of application. Hitherto the preparation methods of α-HH from industrial by-product gypsum mainly include the autoclave process, salt/acid solution process, or alcohol-water solution process. Thereinto, the autoclave process is the only method to realize industrialization. In order to solve the high energy consumption and unfavorable continuous operation of the autoclave process, researchers suggested alternative approaches, such as salt/acid solution process and alcohol-water solution process. However, these methods are basically in the laboratory stage or pilot scale test at present. Compared with FGD gypsum, the utilization rate of PG with a larger emission is very low owing to the high impurity content. And combining the preparation of α-HH with the recovery of valuable impurities from PG seems a promising way to solve the bulk deposition of PG.

Opis:
With the rapid development of the polymer materials industry and the improvement of people's environmental awareness, magnesium hydroxide has been widely used in polymer materials due to its high decomposition temperature, non-toxic smoke suppression, and the advantages of neutralizing harmful gases produced by polymer combustion. However, the conventional preparation methods of magnesium hydroxide exhibit several issues, including high hydrophilicity, elevated polarity, and limited compatibility with polymers. This research proposes an improved method by adding sodium stearate and KH560 modifier, controlling the rate of magnesium oxide and preparing magnesium hydroxide flame retardants using a modifier-directed hydration method. Various characterizations confirmed its morphology, particle size and structure. The magnesium hydroxide exhibits low polarity, small particle size, stable structure and excellent hydrophobicity (with a contact angle of 120.32°, and a free energy of 1.34mN/m). In parallel, the magnesium hydroxide/polypropylene composites demonstrate excellent flame retardancy (LOI of 25%, V-1 grade) and simultaneously enhance the dispersion of magnesium hydroxide within the polypropylene matrix, improving the material's toughness and strength.

Opis:
Soil type and nitrogen (N) are two important factors affecting plant growth and development, and photosynthetic physiological characteristics. However, there are still relatively few studies on the effects of N on P. chinense Schneid. seedlings under different types of soils. In this study, three soil types (red soil, alkaline purple soil, and acidic purple soil) and three N levels (50, 150 and 300 mg/plant) were used to investigate how N levels affected seedling growth, biomass accumulation distribution and photosynthetic characteristics under three soil types. The results showed that N may promote the growth of these seedlings and increase their height and basal stem under three soil types. The stem and leaf biomass, aerial biomass, total biomass, and rootshoot ratio showed significant differences. N increased chlorophyll content in leaves on alkaline purple soil and acidic purple soil, but inhibited chlorophyll synthesis on red soil. Under the same N application, the order for total biomass accumulation in seedlings was alkaline purple soil, red soil, and acid purple soil; for the net photosynthetic rate, it was red soil, acid purple soil, and alkaline purple soil. These results indicate that leaves might elevate the photosynthetic rate by increasing stomatal conductance, intercellular CO2 concentration, and transpiration rate, thereby promoting the growth of seedlings. In addition, soil type and nitrogen had a significant interaction effect on the growth and photosynthetic characteristics of P. chinense Schneid. seedlings. These findings will help screening for suitable soil types and nitrogen application levels for efficient cultivation of P. chinense Schneid. seedlings.
