A linear $k$-coloring of a graph is a proper $k$-coloring of the graph such that any subgraph induced by the vertices of any pair of color classes is a union of vertex-disjoint paths. A graph $G$ is linearly $L$-colorable if there is a linear coloring $c$ of $G$ for a given list assignment $L = \{L(v) : v ∈ V(G)\}$ such that $c(v) ∈ L(v)$ for all $v ∈ V(G)$, and $G$ is linearly $k$-choosable if $G$ is linearly $L$-colorable for any list assignment with $|L(v)| ≥ k$. The smallest integer $k$ such that $G$ is linearly $k$-choosable is called the linear list chromatic number, denoted by $lc_l(G)$. It is clear that \(lc_l(G)≥\Big\lceil\frac{\Delta(G)}{1}\Big\rceil+1\) for any graph $G$ with maximum degree $\Delta(G)$. The maximum average degree of a graph $G$, denoted by $mad(G)$, is the maximum of the average degrees of all subgraphs of $G$. In this note, we shall prove the following. Let $G$ be a graph, (1) if $mad(G)<\frac{8}{3}$ and $\Delta(G) ≥ 7$, then \(lc_l(G)=\Big\lceil\frac{\Delta(G)}{2}\Big\rceil+1\); (2) if $mad(G)<{18}{7}$ and $\Delta(G) ≥ 5$, then \(lc_l(G)=\Big\lceil\frac{\Delta(G)}{2}\Big\rceil+1\); (3) if $mad(G)<{20}{7}$ and $\Delta(G) ≥ 5$, then \(lc_l(G)≤\Big\lceil\frac{\Delta(G)}{2}\Big\rceil+2\).

Opis:
The long-term effects of fire on the radial growth of Korean pines (Pinus koraiensis) in Changbai Mountain is poorly understood. In order to quantify the impact of fire on the radial growth of Korean pines, we measured ring widths and developed two tree-ring chronologies from 21 burned Korean pine trees that were damaged by fire in 1857 as well as 30 control trees in the Changbai Mountain Nature Reserve, China. As expected, the growth rates of the burned trees were slower than those of the control trees in the first five years following the fire. However, beginning six years after the fire, the growth of the burned trees increased considerably, and this period of increased growth lasted 13 years, with moderate growth occurring throughout the 1866 to 1871 period. A difference in growth rates between burned and control tress was also observed for the 20 years since temperatures began markedly increasing in 1980. Burned trees tended to respond negatively to monthly minimum temperature, precipitation, and vapor pressure deficits (VPD), whereas the positive relationship between those factors and radial growth of control trees became stronger. In addition, the significantly negative effect of competition on radial growth was only observed among burned trees. These results demonstrated that the negative and direct effect of damage to physiological plant processes by fire only affected the years shortly after a fire occurred and then became obscured by its indirect effects, such as differential responses to climate and competition, which did persist for a long time. The indirect effect on radial growth over time could be explained by the variability in the relative strength of climatic responses and competition caused by fire.

Public transportation is often disrupted by disturbances, such as the uncertain travel time caused by road congestion. Therefore, the operators need to take real-time measures to guarantee the service reliability of transit networks. In this paper, we investigate a dynamic scheduling problem in a transit network, which takes account of the impact of disturbances on bus services. The objective is to minimize the total travel time of passengers in the transit network. A two-layer control method is developed to solve the proposed problem based on a hybrid control strategy. Specifically, relying on conventional strategies (e.g., holding, stop-skipping), the hybrid control strategy makes full use of the idle standby buses at the depot. Standby buses can be dispatched to bus fleets to provide temporary or regular services. Besides, deep reinforcement learning (DRL) is adopted to solve the problem of continuous decision-making. A long short-term memory (LSTM) method is added to the DRL framework to predict the passenger demand in the future, which enables the current decision to adapt to disturbances. The numerical results indicate that the hybrid control strategy can reduce the average headway of the bus fleet and improve the reliability of bus service.

This paper addresses the problem of producing small area estimates of Ethnicity by Local Authority in England. A Structure Preserving approach is proposed, making use of the Generalized Structure Preserving Estimator. In order to identify the best way to use the available aggregate information, three fixed effects models with increasing levels of complexity were tested. Finite Population Mean Square Errors were estimated using a bootstrap approach. However, more complex models did not perform substantially better than simpler ones. A mixed-effects approach does not seem suitable for this particular application because of the very small sample sizes observed in many areas. Further research on a more flexible fixed-effects estimator is proposed.

Human neutrophil peptides (HNPs) possess high antimicrobial activities against a broad spectrum of microorganisms. Rhodobacter sphaeroides is the best-characterized photosynthetic bacterium and exhibits potential as a novel expression system. Up to date, no literature has been reported regarding expression of HNP3 in Rb. sphaeroides. In the present study, the HNP3 gene fragment was amplified by SOE PCR and ligated into photosynthetic bacteria light-harvesting complex 2 (LH2) expression vector leading to HNP3 fusion protein expression vector. The HNP3 fusion protein was successfully expressed as rapidly evaluated by the LH2 characteristic peaks at ~800 nm and ~850 nm before purification and SDS/PAGE. Subsequently, the HNP3 fusion protein was purified by one-step affinity chromatography, and could be rapidly detected by the color and the spectral absorption at ~800 nm and ~850 nm before SDS/PAGE. Antimicrobial activity assay suggested that the HNP3 fusion protein exhibited high antimicrobial activity towards E. coli. The present study may supply an insight into employing the novel Rb. sphaeroides expression system, exhibiting dramatic advantages over currently used commercial expression system, to heterologously express human neutrophil peptides.

Constrained by the micro-space structure, it is proposed to use platinum wire incandescent ignition combustion mode to achieve the operation of internal combustion engine. However, the combustion test of the platinum wire incandescent ignition in miniature piston internal combustion engine shows: the combustion mode of micro-space platinum wire incandescent ignition has a poor combustion characteristic, low heat release rate, long combustion duration, and low combustion pressure. Therefore, a homogenous charge compression ignition mode is proposed to realize the operation of miniature internal combustion engine. However, it is found that the compression combustion cannot be come true in the cold start-up state of the micro engine. And the compression combustion in the first cycle was realized by the way of increasing the temperature of the cylinder block and platinum wire appropriately. The results show that: The maximum heat release rate is obviously improved and the combustion duration shortened by 28.6ºCA, and pmi increased by 76%. So, a novel hybrid combustion mode of in-cylinder compression combustion supported by the platinum wire incandescent ignition is put forward, through the way of adjusting the temperature of platinum wire, and this combustion mode is regarded as the ideal combustion mode of micro reciprocating piston internal combustion engine.

This paper studies the relationship between transmission intensity and strain based on tapered long-period fiber grating at a fixed wavelength. In experiments, tapered long-period fiber grating was prepared by the electric melting method. Experimental results show that two resonance peaks appeared at 1482 and 1537 nm, respectively. Here is the elaboration of the relationship between the resonant wavelength and the strain, its wavelength-strain sensitivity is 20 pm/με, and the linearity was negative. Then our next study was about the relationship between transmission intensity and strain at a fixed wavelength. The results show that the transmission intensity at a fixed wavelength is related to the exponent with strain. The coupled-mode theory is applied to simulate the relationship between fixed wavelength and strain. The simulation results matched the experimental results. Two fixed wavelength transmission intensity ratio was used, and the ratio showed a linear relationship with the strain, and the slope is –0.018 dB/με. Therefore, within the 0.01% resolution of our detector, we could resolve a 0.16 με strain change. We can select the appropriate light source and detector to achieve higher measurement accuracy. Thus, there is a great potential in fiber grating strain sensors.

Objectives Investigate the impact of daily occupational walking steps on the progression of papillary thyroid cancer (PTC), a topic hitherto underresearched. Material and Methods The authors analyzed the data from 800 individuals with PTC across stages 0–IV. Participants were evenly divided into 2 distinct occupational groups: office workers and construction workers (N = 400 each). Data included comprehensive records of daily walking steps, demographic information, and clinical indicators. Pearson’s correlation coefficients or analysis of variance (ANOVA) were employed to assess the linkage between daily walking steps and PTC risk and stage, as well as associated biochemical markers. Results The analysis revealed a significant inverse relationship between daily walking steps and PTC risk. A higher frequency of daily steps was associated with reduced chances of PTC onset and a lower diagnostic stage of the disease. This protective effect of physical activity was particularly pronounced in the construction worker cohort. Subsequent evaluations showed that construction workers who consistently logged higher daily steps had markedly lower levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), free triiodothyronine, free thyroxine, thyroid peroxidase antibody, thyroglobulin antibody, and thyroglobulin (Tg). Notably, daily walking steps exhibited a strong inverse correlation with body mass index (BMI), age, PTC volumes, and levels of TSH and Tg across both occupational groups (ρ < –0.37). The increase in daily steps was associated with the reduction in PTC stages (p < 0.001). Conclusions The research underscores the potential benefits of increased daily walking steps, suggesting that they may play a protective role in reducing PTC risk and moderating its progression.

Opis:
An extraordinary phenomenon with violent oscillation, accompanied by an abnormal “click” sound is observed during the valve closing in a fuel feeding pipe system. A fluctuation model with flow cavitation, in which time-varying stiffness, time-varying damping coefficients and flow cavitation are comprehensively considered, is proposed. On this basis, a dynamic vibration equation is established and an expression of flow pressure at the valve port is derived. The critical displacement of the flow cavitation system is defined. When the vibration amplitude reaches the critical displacement, cavitation occurs. Based on this model, simulation of vibration displacement and flow pressure is given. The simulated transient process shows the phenomena of vibration fluctuation with cavitation. The results are compared with the experimental data measured by a pressure sensor. Under our experimental conditions, the critical displacement of vibration is 1.41mm, and the average relative pressure peak error is 0.022. The comparison between the simulation and experimental results shows that they are in an acceptable agreement.
