Opis:
The local structure around Fe ions in the C$\text{}_{60}$Fe$\text{}_{2}$ fullerites before and after heat treatment in temperature of 850 K was investigated by means of Fe K edge X-ray absorption near edge structure and extended X-ray absorption near edge structure methods. The X-ray absorption measurements were performed at liquid nitrogen temperature using synchrotron radiation in transmission mode. The X-ray absorption near edge structure and extended X-ray absorption near edge structure studies showed that the heat treatment of the C$\text{}_{60}$Fe$\text{}_{2}$ fullerite at temperature 850 K causing an irreversible transition from monoclinic to fcc structure is accompanied with changes in the state of Fe ions, part of them forms clusters in bcc structure, while others turn to Fe$\text{}^{3+}$ ions bonded to fullerenes.

Opis:
The aim of Fe K edge XANES and EXAFS studies is to reveal the local structure around Fe ions in C$\text{}_{60}$Fe$\text{}_{x}$ intercalated fullerites. The measurements are performed in transmission mode at LN$\text{}_{2}$ temperature for C$\text{}_{60}$Fe$\text{}_{x}$ powder samples and other materials: ferrocene Fe(C$\text{}_{5}$H$\text{}_{5}$)$\text{}_{2}$, Fe metal foil and α-Fe$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{3}$. The main result is that the XAFS spectra of the C$\text{}_{60}$Fe$\text{}_{2}$ intercalate is almost identical to that of ferrocene and very different from α-Fe and α-Fe$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{3}$. The results support opinion that in the C$\text{}_{60}$Fe$\text{}_{x}$ intercalates the ferrocene-like bonds in complexes C$\text{}_{60}$FeC$\text{}_{60}$ are formed. Additionally, the XAFS spectra showed that neither remarkable amount of Fe metallic clusters nor oxidized iron particles are present in the C$\text{}_{60}$Fe$\text{}_{x}$ sample.

$PbI_2$, $BiI_3$, $CdI_2$ and AgI crystalline samples intercalated with pyridine have been studied by Raman spectroscopy. Comparing the Raman spectra of pristine metal iodides with those of intercalated samples we have shown the coexistence, in the host crystalline lattice, of two adsorbed forms: a physisorbed one, featured by weak forces of van der Waals type and a chemisorbed one, involving stronger forces related to an electrostatic interaction. The physisorbed form is consistent with the molecules inserted into the interlayer spaces while the chemisorbed form is represented by the molecules forming coordination complexes with the crystalline lattice cations. The crucial role in the formation of such complexes is played by the lone pair of nitrogen atom belonging to the molecules.

Opis:
The results of the investigations of thermally stimulated electron emission from graphite submitted to intercalation of K-Bi alloy, in the temperature range of 100-400 K, are presented. Total and partial pressure in the measuring chamber in relation to the temperature of the sample are also reported. The insertion of a K-Bi alloy into the interlayers of graphite considerably changes thermally stimulated electron emission properties. The emission images I(T) depend on the content of intercalate and the emission maxima obtained at temperatures of about 170 and 210 K are conditioned by the desorption of a gas while the total pressure above the different samples is of the same order. The desorption of gases at a temperature over 250 K does not cause any increase in the electron emission.

Opis:
In this paper we propose a method of intercalation of layered single crystals with atoms of 3d-metals in a magnetic-field gradient. We report on structure properties of Co_{x}InSe and Co_{x}In₂Se₃ layered crystals intercalated by cobalt. It was established that ferromagnetic ordering at room temperature is observed in the intercalated crystals. The crystals are a nanocomposite material that consists of a layered matrix and arrays of Co nanoformations on the van der Waals surfaces of InSe and In₂Se₃ layers.

Opis:
The general properties of the layered transition metal dichalcogenides and the possibility to modify these materials by intercalation are reviewed. Examples are given of experimental results obtained by using angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy and very-low-energy electron diffraction. The possibility to use layered semiconductors as model systems in studies of e.g. Schottky barriers and surface photovoltage is exemplified by the Rb/WSe$\text{}_{2}$ system. Attention is also paid to the use of van der Waals epitaxy in interface studies, and its possible practical applications. The potential of layered semiconductors like WSe$\text{}_{2}$ in solar cell applications is also mentioned.

We have conducted tunneling spectroscopy studies for isolated C$\text{}_{60}$ molecules in the double barrier tunnel junction configuration. The tunneling current-voltage (I-V) and dI/dV vs. V spectra of these molecules exhibit rich structures resulting from both resonant tunneling through the discrete levels and single electron charging effects. In particular, we observe degeneracy lifting within the molecular orbitals, probably due to the Jahn-Teller effect and local electric fields. Theoretical fits, performed using the "orthodox" model for single-electron tunneling modified to account for the discrete level spectrum of C$\text{}_{60}$, agree well with our data.

We synthesized both the $V_{2}O_{5}$ xerogel and the composite $V_{2}O_{5}$ xerogel/C starting from the solution of $V_{2}O_{5}$ in hydrogen peroxide. After the characterization by XRD, thermal (TGA-DTA), SEM methods and by particle size analysis, the investigation of $Li^{+}$ and $Mg^{2+}$ intercalation/deintercalation reactions in an aqueous solutions of $LiNO_{3}$ and $Mg(NO_{3})_{2}$ were performed by cyclic voltammetry. The composite material $V_{2}O_{5}$ xerogel/C displayed relatively high intercalation capacity, amounting to 123 mA h $g^{-1}$ and 107 mA h $g^{-1}$, in lithium and magnesium salt solutions, respectively.

Polymer-layered silicate nanocomposites belong to a new class of hybrid materials consisting of organic-synthetic polymer matrix and inorganic filler-layered structure clay minerals. The paper presents the results of FTIR, NMR, and SAXS studies of poly(ε-caprolactone)/sodium montmorillonite nanocomposites. We observed a correlation between the concentration of poly(ε-caprolactone) in nanocomposite samples and structural changes both of the clay mineral and the intercalated polymer. Stiffening of the clay structure appears as a result of poly(ε-caprolactone) intercalation into a clay structure. $\text{}^{27}$Al NMR studies indicated in nanocomposites two non-equivalent sites of aluminium ions, i.e. in octahedral and tetrahedral coordination, whereas in the montmorillonite clay structure the aluminium ions are located in the interlayer space too. We found also that the temperatures of structural changes and softening process of poly(ε-caprolactone) chains in the nanocomposites depend on the concentration of poly(ε-caprolactone).

The most effective and popular algorithms to reconstruct the three-dimensional electron-positron momentum density from the measurements of the two-dimensional angular correlation of annihilation radiation are based on the Fourier transform or polynomial expansion. We compare the efficacy of different methods in reconstructing the momentum density of the rare-earth based compounds $ErGa_3$, $CeIn_3$ and model profiles, presenting also our new filtering algorithm.
