Opis:
The detailed studies of low temperature (T=2~K) polarization resolved photoluminescence and photoluminescence excitation studies from heavily modulation doped Ga$\text{}_{1-x}$Al$\text{}_{x}$As/GaAs single heterojunctions in continuous wave and time-resolved conditions are reported. The free conduction band GaAs electrons recombination with two-dimensional holes observed in low magnetic fields enabled us to determine experimentally the valence subband Landau levels. The high magnetic field photoluminescence spectra are dominated by excitonic transitions which are attributed to neutral excitons rather than to positively charged ones.

Opis:
The Onsager description of de Haas-van Alphen oscillations and the magnetic translation group approach are combined in order to argue that the magnetic susceptibility of mesoscopic systems is assumed to reveal some features different than those of a bulk sample. Firstly, due to a discrete nature of magnetic field that has to be taken into account while dealing with the mesoscopic scale phenomena, the susceptibility should vary in a discrete way, too. Secondly, the susceptibility should depend on both the size and the shape of the system.

Opis:
In the Weyl semimetals, a recently discovered class of bulk materials, inverted band gap closes in the first Brillouin zone at topologically protected points of degeneracy called the Weyl nodes. By using the Chern number formalism it is possible to assign to each of the nodes an integer topological charge Q. While around typical Weyl points the energy disperses linearly in all three directions, double-Weyl nodes (with |Q|=2) exhibit quadratic dispersion in two directions and linear in the third one. We use a simple 2-band tight-binding lattice model to investigate the dispersion of the Landau levels in the presence of quantizing magnetic field in the vicinity of a double-Weyl node. In the long wavelength limit we obtain analytically the expected presence of two chiral levels. In addition, we find numerous level crossings between the non-chiral Landau levels and the chiral ones, a feature which is distinct from the single node case. Calculations for a finite-size sample, both with periodic and hard-wall boundary conditions (the latter corresponding to slab geometry), show that the two chiral levels hybridize in the conduction band with the two lowest non-chiral Landau levels. In the case of slab geometry these four levels are responsible for the formation of a protected surface state.

Opis:
A method of calculating the Landau levels in crystals having the ellipsoidal Fermi surfaces has been presented with an accent put on the directional dependence of the energy quanta defined by the levels. Physically the problem concerns mainly semiconductors examined in a nearly-free electron approximation. In this case the shape of the Fermi surface is defined by three different effective masses entering the electron Hamiltonian. Beyond of the masses the method, which can be applied for an arbitrary direction of the magnetic field, does contain no empirical parameters in its framework.

Opis:
The tunneling current between the metallic tip of a scanning microscope and s-wave and p-wave superconductors in a quantizing magnetic field is investigated. The differential conductance is calculated both as a function of bias voltage at the centre of the vortex line and for varying position of the scanning tunneling microscope tip at a stable voltage.

In this paper all inequivalent irreducible projective representations of the two-dimensional translation group for a given factor system are determined. A normalized, i.e. corresponding to the Landau gauge, factor system is considered. Obtained representations directly lead to concept of magnetic cells and to periodicity with respect to the charge of a moving particle. It is also shown that the quantization condition is imposed on the product qH of the charge q and the magnitude of magnetic field H. The Kronecker product of such representations is considered and it is proven that the multiplication of representations corresponds to the addition of charges of particles moving in a given external magnetic field. In general, coupling of d representations corresponds to d-particle states. Presented results can be applied in any problem related to two-dimensional electron gas in a magnetic field, for example in the fractional quantum Hall effect or high temperature superconductivity.

Opis:
The group-theoretical classification of states of identical particle pairs is presented. Then obtained states are coupled with those of an antiparticle to construct states of a three-particle system. Investigations are performed using products of irreducible projective representations of the 2D translation group. For a given Born-von Kármán period N degeneracy of pair states is N, whereas three-particle states are N$\text{}^{2}$-fold degenerated. It has to be underlined that the case of even N is more complicated since pair states are labelled by four inequivalent irreducible projective representations. The problem of symmetry properties with respect to particles transposition is briefly discussed.

The normal-state energy spectrum of the two-dimensional t-J model in a homogeneous perpendicular magnetic field B is investigated using the Mori projection operator technique. The density of states at the Fermi level as a function of 1/B reveals both high- and low-frequency oscillations. The high-frequency oscillations correspond to large Fermi surfaces, while the low-frequency components are related to van Hove singularities in the Landau subbands, which stem from their bending due to strong electron correlations. Frequencies of the low-frequency components are of the same order of magnitude as those observed in underdoped cuprates. These components become dominant if smoothing processes are involved. It is shown that despite increased distances between subbands the pseudogap affects only slightly the frequency of density of states oscillations.

We seek for an oscillating center solution of the wave function satisfying the Schrödinger equation for a nonrelativistic charge particle in an arbitrary external field, where the oscillating center of physical system is a motion governing by a guidance formula of the classical mechanics and at the same time, the physical system obeys the rule of quantum mechanics. In terms of our approach, one enables to know how quantum process may actually come about. The results are applied to analyze the Landau level. We explain successfully that the orbit of oscillator center for the Landau level is circle.

Opis:
It is shown that in the case of a free electron in a spatially periodic magnetic field the concept of magnetic translations operators is still valid and, moreover, these operators can be defined in the same way as for a Bloch electron in a uniform magnetic field. The results can be a useful tool in the investigation of recently observed phenomena in 2D electron gas with spatially modulated density.
