Opis:
Specific heat, magnetization and DC susceptibility of the single crystal $CsNd(MoO_{4})_{2}$,a layered rare-earth dimolybdate, have been investigated nominally, in the temperature range from 100 mK to 300 K in the magnetic field up to 5 T, applied along the a axis. The analysis of the experimental data revealed the absence of a phase transition to the magnetic ordered state down to 100 mK. The application of a standard two-level model yielded an excellent agreement with the specific heat data above 2 K in nonzero magnetic field indicating a weakness of magnetic correlations and a predominant occupation of the ground-energy doublet. The latter indicates a large energy separation between the ground and first excited doublet. These measurements suggest that $CsNd(MoO_{4})_{2}$ can represent a good realization of a single-ion magnet.

Opis:
The angular dependence of electron paramagnetic resonance spectra of $Cu(en)(H_2O)_2SO_4$ single crystals was studied in the X-band frequency range at temperatures 4 and 300 K. Analysis of the linewidth at 300 K revealed nice agreement with the angular variation of the g-factor. This coincidence is the manifestation of the symmetric and antisymmetric exchange coupling, as main broadening mechanisms in $Cu(en)(H_2O)_2SO_4$ at high temperatures. The radical change of the angular dependence of the linewidth observed at 4 K can be ascribed to dipolar coupling.

Opis:
A polycrystalline sample of CeOsGa₄ was prepared by arc-melting stoichiometric quantities of high purity elements of 4N and greater, in an arc furnace. The data was confirmed to crystallize in an orthorhombic structure, with a space group Pmma (Number 51). Measurements of the magnetic susceptibility showed a distinct anomaly around T_{o} = 3.8 K, while the high temperature data (above 100 K) obeys Curie-Weiss law. The calculated effective moment of 2.44 μ_{B}, was obtained, which was a bit less than the theoretical moment for a Ce³⁺ ion of 2.54 μ_{B}. Magnetization data at T=2 K depicts that CeOsGa₄ does not saturate up to applied magnetic field of 7 T, while the data measured at 9 K indicates that the compound is purely paramagnetic at that temperature. The low temperature specific heat data is characterized by an anomaly at T_{o} = 3.8 K confirming the χ(T) data. Electrical resistivity shows a metallic behaviour at high temperatures with a deviation at low temperatures, signalling the cooperative behaviour which results to ordering. In this work we present the initial studies of the physical properties measurements performed on this compound.

Opis:
Magnetic and specific heat measurements of $Dy_{11}Si_4In_6$ are reported. This compound crystallizes in the tetragonal $Sm_{11}Ge_4In_6$-type crystal structure (space group I4/mmm), in which Dy atoms occupy four different sites. The AC and DC magnetic measurements suggest complex magnetic properties. Below $T_{c}$ = 52 K magnetic ordering has a ferromagnetic component, while below 20 K a change of the properties is observed. Near the Curie temperature the magnetocaloric effect with the magnetic entropy change $\Delta S_{m}$ equal to 16.5 J/(kg K) is observed. The specific heat data indicate only the phase transition at 52 K.

Opis:
The present work is focused on the investigation of magneto-structural correlations in Cu(en)Cl₂ and Cu(tn)Cl₂. A comparative study of powder susceptibility and magnetization of both compounds revealed that the replacement of tn by en ligand did not affect single-ion properties. On the other hand, the structure modification led to significant reduction of magnetic interactions as well as lowering the crystal symmetry. The impact of the high pressure on magnetic properties of the compounds is discussed.

Opis:
It was proposed in the 1950's that X-rays could be used to probe magnetization densities. After some experimental demonstrations of the technique, applications have shown that the use of magnetic X-ray scattering combined with synchrotron radiation can lead to important new discoveries in the magnetism of solid materials. Several important features have emerged, especially the resonant magnetic X-ray scattering: large enhancements of scattered intensities, site and species selectivity, X-ray energy and polarization dependence. These properties make it possible to study new phenomena: details of magnetic structures of materials including micro-crystals, new aspects of magnetic phase transitions and surface magnetism.

Polycrystalline samples of $TbSn_{2}$ and $DySn_{2}$ were studied by means of magnetic susceptibility, electrical resistivity and heat capacity measurements. Both compounds have been found to order antiferromagnetically at low temperatures with some extra features in the ordered state due to changes in their magnetic structures. The two stannides exhibit metallic conductivity. The estimated crystal field levels splitting of $Tb^{3+}$ and $Dy^{3+}$ ground multiplets do not exceed 75 K.

Opis:
Specific heat measurements have been performed on the polycrystalline $TbNi_2, LaNi_2$ and their solid solutions $Tb_{1-x}La_xNi_2$ (x=0.2, 0.3). The Debye temperatures, phonon and conduction electron contributions as well as the magnetic part of the heat capacity were determined and discussed. The magnetocaloric effect was estimated from measurements performed in a magnetic field of 0.42 T for $TbNi_2,$ $Tb_{0.8}La_{0.2}Ni_2$ and $Tb_{0.7}La_{0.3}Ni_2$.

Opis:
In the system $Tm_{1 - x}Yb_{x}B_{12}$ the specific heat has been studied in a wide range of Yb-concentration in the vicinity of the quantum critical point $x_{C}$ ≈ 0.3. The results were obtained on high quality single crystalline samples of $Tm_{0.7}Yb_{0.3}B_{12}$ compound placed near quantum critical point, both for antiferromagnetic metals (x < $x_{C}$) as well as for paramagnetic insulators (x > $x_{C}$) within a wide temperature range of 1.9-300 K in magnetic field up to 9 T. The temperature dependence of the magnetic contribution to specific heat for $Tm_{0.74}Yb_{0.26}B_{12}$ shows a logarithmic divergence of the form $C_{mag}$/T∿-lnT at T<4 K, which may be attributed to the quantum critical regime, and it is suppressed by strong external magnetic field. The Schottky anomaly of the magnetic contribution to specific heat in $Tm_{1 - x}Yb_{x}B_{12}$ has been established and analyzed in detail.

Opis:
Magnetocaloric properties of the spin-1/2 Ising model on a decorated square lattice in a transverse magnetic field are investigated by the use of a generalized decoration-iteration transformation, which establishes a rigorous mapping correspondence with the zero-field spin-1/2 Ising model on a square lattice. The temperature dependence of the entropy, the isothermal entropy change and the adiabatic temperature change display anomalous singular behavior in a vicinity of a second-order phase transition. The large inverse magnetocaloric effect can be found in the isothermal entropy change within the temperature interval, which is delimited by the critical temperatures at zero and non-zero transverse fields.
