Opis:: The aim of this article is to analyze the challenges and success factors on organizations’ path to agile transformation, as frequently discussed in the literature and encountered in business practice. The research conducted proved that large-scale agile transformations require a dedicated approach with set of tools and best practices in place. The implementation challenges and barriers have been categorized into method-, organization-, culture- and technology-oriented groups. As a result of an in-depth analysis carried on for the purpose of this paper, a dedicated methodology of agile transformation has been proposed to ease the implementation process.

Opis:: The uncertainty and turbulences of market surroundings, globalization, developing linkages among companies and market instability entail tough challenge for contemporary organizations. In order to survive they must evolve their behaviors and competencies, strengthen strategic abilities as well as develop the lightning reaction to market signals. Hence, they need to develop agility indicators. These indicators become of key importance as the company intends to achieve market success. The author brings up issues of the agility, its indicators and the strategies which can lead to achieving agile enterprise, since this issue has not been widely discussed in the Polish literature on the subject. The goal of the article is to get these issues across and therefore it has been based on the literature published internationally. Analysis of these sources allows for specification of agility indicators, such as speed and flexibility, emphasizing that they should be linked together. The author of the presented article is reaching a conclusion, that agility can be attained by two interconnected strategies: exploiting the agility in order to achieve the competitive edge and integration of the organization, people and technology.

Opis:: Background: A number of Agile maturity models (AMMs) have been proposed to guide software organizations in their adoption of Agile practices. Typically the AMMs suggest that higher maturity levels are reached by gradually adding more practices. However, recent research indicates that certain Agile practices, like test-driven development and continuous integration, are being abandoned. Little is known on the rationales for abandoning Agile practices. Aim: We aim to identify which Agile practices are abandoned in industry, as well as the reasons for abandoning them. Method: We conducted a web survey with 51 respondents and interviews with 11 industry practitioners with experience in Agile adoption to investigate why Agile practices are abandoned. Results: Of the 17 Agile practices that were included in the survey, all have been abandoned at some point. Nevertheless, respondents who retained all practices as well as those who abandoned one or more practices, perceived their overall adoption of Agile practices as successful. Conclusion: Going against the suggestions of the AMMs, i.e. abandoning Agile one or more practices, could still lead to successful outcomes. This finding indicates that introducing Agile practices gradually in a certain order, as the AMMs suggest, may not always be suitable in different contexts.

An IT project management system in accordance with the MSF Agile methodology

Opis:: Good management of the development team working on an IT project is crucial in achieving the final product. Contrary to appearances, not only coding and the use of appropriate programming patterns and practices have an impact on software development or quickly visible results of work. The way the project management is carried out is also an important aspect. The main goal of this work was to design and create a proprietary software system based on MSF Agile (Microsoft Solutions Framework for Agile Software Development), that is, to prepare a set of best practices and extensions of the Agile methodology to facilitate work on an IT project. This fully flexible system allows you to coordinate the project using the principles taken from the MSF Agile methodology, based on the Agile idea implemented in the Scrum methodology. This system will certainly be helpful and useful when creating new projects by students of universities, such as the Jagiellonian University, in accordance with the methodology of agile programming.
Dobre zarządzanie zespołem deweloperskim pracującym nad projektem IT jest kluczowe w osiągnięciu końcowego produktu. Wbrew pozorom, nie tylko kodowanie oraz stosowanie odpowiednich wzorców i praktyk programistycznych ma wpływ na rozwój oprogramowania, czy szybko widoczne efekty pracy. Istotnym aspektem jest także sposób, w jaki jest prowadzone zarządzanie nad projektem. Głównym celem niniejszej pracy było zaprojektowanie i stworzenie autorskiego systemu oprogramowania w oparciu o MSF Agile (ang. Microsoft Solutions Framework for Agile Software Development), czyli sporządzenie zestawu najlepszych praktyk i rozszerzeń metodyki Agile ułatwiających pracę nad projektem informatycznym. Ten w pełni elastyczny system pozwala na koordynację projektu przy zastosowaniu zasad, zaczerpniętych z metodyki MSF Agile, opierającej się na idei Agile zaimplementowanej w metodologii Scrum. System ten z pewnością będzie pomocny i przydatny podczas tworzenia nowych projektów przez studentów uczelni wyższych, np. UJ, zgodnie z metodyką programowania zwinnego.

Skutkuje to zmianą postrzegania niektórych aspektów funkcjonowania organizacji. Hipoteza zakładająca wzajemne relacje między kulturą korporacyjną a specyfiką adaptacji Agile została ustanowiona na podstawie systematycznego przeglądu literatury i analizy danych z raportów powstałych na podstawie doświadczeń różnych firm. Badania jakościowe przeprowadzone metodą wywiadu z pracownikami badanej firmy pomogły w rozpoznaniu ich nastawienia, w tym barier blokujących najczęściej przyjęcie metodyk Agile w dużych przedsiębiorstwach.
Maintaining healthy corporate culture in multinational context is a natural challenge in companies operating globally. Recently, many large-scale enterprises across various industries consider introducing Agile frameworks as a direction for improving overall company performance, which also demands considerable changes in company inner operating environment. The following study focuses on investigation of the organizational culture element as essential factor to be carefully addressed when going for new ways of working on a large scale. Hypothesis exploring interrelation between corporate culture and specifics of Agile adoption in large scale have been set up on the basis of systematic literature review and company’s experience sharing reports. Qualitative research with in-depth interviews from employees’ viewpoints helped to highlight company workplace mentality and employee’s mindset as the most often recognized blocking factors for Agile adoption in large-scale enterprises.

Opis:: Software project enterprises deliver increasingly complex and custom-made software products and services. Agile methods were designed to address the challenges of dynamic and unpredictable software delivery environments to support the project team operating in these difficult work conditions. Agile Manifesto has presented four key values and twelve principles as mandatory rules. However, its implementation largely depends, in each case, on project teams and their organizational context. Implementation of the Agile method in everyday teamwork is strongly coupled with team values as well as with the whole organizational culture in a given team environment. The team values, in turn, depend on people in a team and their motivation led by autonomy, mastery and purpose. The primary goal of this paper is to present the Agile transformation changes from the perspective of project team values. Desk review and results of the multiple case study analysis in the companies undergoing an Agile transformation process are being presented as empirical research. The research results focus on the changes of the Agile transformation process from the perspective of project team values. The results showed an Agile transformation impacted a project team approach to work organization and it can be assessed from different perspectives of a project team values such as, for example: courage, focus, commitment, respect, openness, feedback, simplicity, communication, visibility, honesty and even a sense of humour. Broad organizational changes are impacting not only project team values, but also agility of whole project organization and its organizational culture.

Opis:: Agile methods for project management are often treated as methods for mitigating risk. However, there is disagreement as to whether explicit methods of risk management should be used in projects which are executed according to Agile methodology or is the implicit risk management built into Agile methodologies sufficient. To contribute to the discussion, an attempt has been made to identify risks that are either caused by the introduction of an Agile methodology to a project or become more significant when such methodology is in use. If such risks exist, this would be evidence that explicit risk management is required, even in the case of Agile methodologies. The results of this research may be useful for any organization that is in the process of selecting a methodology for project management and is considering Agile methodologies.

Opis:: Celem pracy jest przedstawienie oraz analiza kluczowych walorów metodyki zarządzania zwinnego (popularnie nazywanej z eng. Agile) podczas tworzenia rozwiązań oraz produktów cyfrowych. W pracy przybliżono oryginalne założenia manifestu Agile, pojęcia SCRUM, sprintu projektowego i kreatywności. Metodę badawczą stanowiła rozbudowana ankieta, rozpowszechniana do osób ściśle pracujących w omawianej metodyce. Analiza wyników umożliwiła zbadanie rzeczywistej jakości działania zarządzania zwinnego, kluczowych walorów tej metodyki oraz ogólnego wydźwięku w branży IT. Zebrane opinie również dotyczyły tematów współpracy z klientami, zarządzania procesami, organizacji pracy oraz kreatywności w analizowanym sektorze.Najważniejszymi elementami pracy w aspekcie strategii Agile, stanowią zarządzanie poszczególnymi etapami projektu, brak przestojów oraz korelacja między różnymi środowiskami osób pracującymi nad produktem. Niezbędnym elementem rozwoju nad produktem cyfrowym jest wyzwanie, jakie stanowi jego kreatywna część, której zmienność jest nieodłącznym aspektem każdego nowego projektu. Wybór elastycznego systemu zarządzania umożliwia szybkie zmiany i dopasowania pod nowe cele, bez potrzeby wdrażania nowych rozwiązań od samego początku, a jedynie wymieniając najistotniejsze składowe w sprawdzonej metodzie. Z tego powodu w pracy poświęcono szczególną uwagę kreatywności i zarządzaniu nią w kontekście częstych korekt oraz efektywnego eksploatowania.
The key of the work is to present and analyze main advantages of agile management methodology in digital products development. The master thesis presents the original assumptions of the Agile manifesto, SCRUM concept, design sprints and creativity. The research method was an extensive questionnaire disseminated to people closely working in the discussed methodology. The analysis of the results made it possible to examine the actual quality of agile management operation, the key problems of this method and overall tone in the IT industry. The collected opinions also concerned the topics of cooperation with clients, general management processes, organization flow and creativity in the analyzed sector. The most important elements of work strategy are the management of individual stages of project, no downtime and correlation between different environments of people working on the product. An indispensable element in the development of a software is the challenge posed by its creative parts, the variability of which is an inherent aspect of each new project. The choice of a flexible management system allows for quick changes and adjustments to new goals, without need to implement new solutions from the very beginning. Only by listing the most important components in a proven method. For this reason, the work can focus on creativity and managing it in the context of frequent adjustments and efficient use.

The described situationof project failure by an inexperienced manager is based on his own experience as well asproblems encountered during the implementation of a given project. Agile methods arethe future of project management in IT industries with their increased resistance tochanges.
