Praca analizuje strategie literackie użyte przez Angelę Carter na podstawie dwóch bajek, „Krwawa komnata” i „Oblubienica tygrysa”, zawartych w kolekcji Krwawa komnata. Pierwszy rozdział pracy poświęcony jest historycznemu ujęciu rozwoju gatunku. Kolejne podrozdziały ukazują problemy związane z definicją gatunku, podejmują próbę odtworzenia dróg rozprzestrzeniania się bajek, jak również opisują stanowisko feministek i samej Carter w stosunku do bajek. Rozdziały drugi i trzeci poświęcone są analizie dwóch bajek – „Krwawej komnaty” i „Oblubienicy tygrysa”. Celem jest zbadanie, w jaki sposób Carter, przez ponowną interpretację postaci i poszczególnych motywów, użyła feministycznych pojęć z zamiarem zakwestionowania podstaw systemu patriarchalnego. Ostatni rozdział skupia się na celach przyświecających pisarce w ukazaniu bajek z feministycznej perspektywy.Podsumowując, postmodernistyczne i feministyczne podejście Carter do bajek zmusza czytelnika do ponownego przemyślenia takich założeń jak istnienie rzekomo ponadczasowych i uniwersalnych wartości. Kolekcja opowiadań Angeli Carter potwierdza rolę, jaką bajki odgrywają we wprowadzaniu działań o charakterze buntowniczo-wywrotowym przez pisarzy; korzenie tego procesu odnaleźć można już w początkowych etapach rozwoju gatunku we Włoszech, a następnie również we Francji i Niemczech.
The thesis examines literary strategies that Angela Carter, a British feminist writer, employed in two of her stories, “The Bloody Chamber” and “The Tiger’s Bride”, included in the collection entitled The Bloody Chamber. The first chapter discusses the historical development of the fairy tale. The successive subchapters present the problems connected with the definition of the genre. They also attempt to retrace the paths of fairy tales’ dissemination as well as analyze feminists’ and Carter’s stance on fairy tales. The second and the third chapters are devoted to “The Bloody Chamber” and “The Tiger’s Bride” respectively. The idea is to explore how Carter, through the reinterpretation of the characters and single motifs from the traditional tales, applied feminist notions in the critique of the patriarchal system. The last chapter focuses on Carter’s aims in rewriting her stories from a feminist perspective and stresses the need to confront and reevaluate old beliefs about the position of women in the patriarchal culture.The conclusion of the thesis is that Carter’s postmodern feminist approach towards fairy tales forces the reader to reevaluate the allegedly timeless and universal values. Carter’s collection confirms the role of fairy tales as a means of spreading subversive messages, the process which can be traced back to the origins of literary tales in Italy and, later, to France and Germany. - Dostawca treści:
