Opis:: Artykuł prezentuje wstępne uwagi na temat języków antropocenu. Wychodzi z założenia, że antropocen wymaga wielowymiarowego, niejednorodnego, międzyskalowego spojrzenia, które ujawnia, że to, jak nazywamy i opisujemy tę epokę geologiczną, ma znaczenie dla naszego myślenia o przyczynach, następstwach oraz aktorach odpowiedzialnych za kryzys ekologiczno-klimatyczny. Następnie autor opisuje kilka przykładowych języków antropocenu: język geologii, rozmaitych dyskursów teoretycznych oraz literatury i sztuki. Przedostatnia część artykułu prezentuje zawartość 11 tomu czasopisma "AUPC. Studia Poetica". W części końcowej autor proponuje kategorię "antropocenu dyfrakcyjnego", która jego zdaniem pozwala sprostać antropocenowi jako nowemu, nieintuicyjnemu, emergentnemu wydarzeniu.
The article presents preliminary remarks on the languages of the Anthropocene. Its assumption is that the Anthropocene requires a multidimensional, heterogeneous, cross-scale view revealing that how we name and describe the geological epoch matters to our thinking about the causes, consequences and actors responsible for the ecological and climate crisis. The author then describes a few exemplary languages of the Anthropocene: the language of geology, various theoretical discourses, as well as literature and art. The penultimate part of the article presents the content of the 11th volume of the journal “AUPC. Studia Poetica”. In the final part, the author proposes the “diffractive Anthropocene” category, which, in his opinion, makes it possible to face the Anthropocene as a new, non-intuitive, emergent event.

Opis:: Human-made noise pollutes the Earth further every day. It is important to investigate how that process affects the whole biosphere. I present a symbolic case of the Australian lyrebird, which is a songbird that mimics the sounds of its surroundings. Today its songs sound like chainsaw and other heavy machinery. All animal species are polluted by human noise to some extent. There are many studies about sonic perception in animals, but it seems that this knowledge is still hardly popularised. The phenomenon of sharing sounds between humans and other animals may also be better understood by new approaches to studies on cultural evolution.

Opis:: The life among ruins is a well-known motif in the Polish urban, architectural and historical studies. The ruination, as a leit-motif, reappears now in a different setting – it is anymore connected solely to traditional heritage studies, but it stands as a real threat and challenge resulting from the Anthropocene condition. In this paper, the idea is to discuss the phenomenon of an intensified ruination as a sign of our, Anthropocene time, and further to confront it with a concurring concept of the Capitalocene and its meaning for critical heritage studies. While the first concept of the Anthropocene redirects our attention to new materialism, vitality and biological agency of material, cultural heritage, the other suggests a different approach and implications for heritage. The discussion on heritage in the Anthropocene and the Capitalocene will be illustrated by Alfred Seiland’s photographic series “Imperium Romanum”.

Opis:: This article will argue the suitability of the Pink Elements (2019) by SUPERFLEX for representing the elementary particles of our posthuman reality, intended from a cultural perspective. Firstly, it will address the ‚bit’, deemed by some as the current arche, revealing its limits in the light of the Niche Construction Theory applied to humans. Then, I will try to demonstrate that the relational dimension corresponds to reality as we perceive it after postmodernity. Therefore, I will analyse the dynamics of the human-environment relationship in the geological era called ‚Anthropocene’ by comparing Merleau-Ponty’s perception and Morton’s hyperobjects. Finally, I will give some examples of recent artworks reflecting this relationship, synthesisable as a ‚recording of a non-deciphered text’, among which the Pink Elements will stand out as bricks capable of representing the ultimate substance of reality as the posthuman culture shows it to us.

Opis:: The essay attempts to consider the ontological presence of the climate change denial within the discourse of the anthropocene. The author asks about controversies raised upon the climate change topic. The author indicates that the anthropocene functions as an ambivalent philosophical metaphor, which underlies the contemporary ecological discourse. To understand ontological status of the climate change denial within the discourse of the anthropocene, author reflects on the issue of content control on the Internet. The author asks about the ways of the existence of a digital image that has been removed from the web, he also raises the issue of its non-presence. The non-presence idea turns out to be a concept, which can explain the interrelatedness of the climate change denial and the climate savers movements.

Opis:: The purpose of the article is to highlight the serious challenge of living in the Anthropocene era. Recognizing humans as a force of geological significance, it is also necessary to take into account our responsibility for the state of the world and the search for ways to adequately deal with the threat posed by the deepening degradation of the planet, which is ultimately likely to lead to the disappearance of the human and many other species. One way to deal with the danger is to change the way we describe the situation and find a new language for expressing our new attitude to reality. Opis:: The European colonization of Australia introduced a new population into a continent in which Indigenous people had practiced cyclic burning as a form of ecosystem maintenance since time immemorial. The settlers’ complete disdain for Indigenous knowledge and related practices caused these customs to largely fall into disuse. One result of this was an increased vulnerability of landscapes to bush fires, a factor that has risen to the fore in the early twenty-first century. The fires that have swept across the landscape with increasing frequency and ferocity have provoked fears of a rolling, fiery apocalypse that might make living in many areas of the continent untenable. This marks a new phase of settler anxiety that has been fuelled by extensive coverage of fires on broadcast and digital media platforms. Blending discussions of Indigenous culture, 19th-21st-century European settler visual art, literature and modern communications media, this article begins by examining the nature of Anthropocene modernity and the very different worldviews and practices of Australian Indigenous peoples. Particular attention is given to senses of time and of living and working with fire. Subsequent sections open up the topic with regard to the planetary present and how we might adjust to the future.
