Opis:
According to the secondary literature of the past decades, many features of Meiji Japan (1868-1912) that were regarded “traditionally Japanese” have been proven to be “invented traditions” of an era of building a modern nation and national consciousness as a part of modernization. Creating a nation state with strong nationalism followed the European developmental pattern, but was built on Japanese cultural traditions. One of the aims of the paper is to trace back the sources of this process, suggesting that premodern and culturalist conceptions of community were used, too. The paper try to suggest that in this respect, the Japanese cultural movement of forming a nation shows similarities not with the nation states of Western Europe (where nationalism strongly attached to modernity) but rather with the “national awakening” movements of the peoples of Central Europe, which have not been dealt with in the secondary literature yet.

Possibility of infecting a newborn baby by its HCV and HBV positive mother : nursing treatment
Autorzy:

Opis:
Parturient period is the time when a mother suffering from symptomless viral hepatitis of A and C type can easily infect her newborn baby with the virus. Pregnancy itself does not affect the clinical course of hepatitis, but the moment of infection has a big influence on the risk of the newborn baby getting infected with the disease. The risk is continuously increasing as the time of delivery is approaching and it is the highest in the parturient period because most cases of infection take place during the delivery rather than through the placenta (the risk of acute C-type infection increases rapidly in the last trimester of pregnancy). The importance of preventing parturient HBV and HCV infections is increased by over 90% likelihood that the babies infected with the virus during delivery will eventually become its carriers. Every child born by a woman suffering from acute and chronic HBV infections is given a special immunoglobulin and a vaccine against B-type hepatitis immediately after the birth. No vaccine against HCV infection has been discovered so far. As far as the problem of breastfeeding is concerned, existing data do not allow for determining an explicit attitude towards HBV and especially, HCV positive mothers. In the case of C-type infections, the virus is detected in colostrum and milk of 20% HCV infected mothers. No significant statistical differences have been found, however, between the frequency of infections among breastfed babies and those, who were fed artificially. There are also no clear guidelines on nursing care and proper education rules in this field.

Opis:
This paper presents an experimental investigation of the hot deformation behaviour of 15% B₄C particle reinforced AA6061 matrix composites and the establishment of a novel corresponding unified and physically-based visco-plastic material model. The feasibility of hot forming of a metal matrix composite (MMC) with a low volume fraction reinforcement has been assessed by performing hot compression tests at different temperatures and strain rates. Examination of the obtained stress-strain relationships revealed the correlation between temperature and strain hardening extent. Forming at elevated temperatures enables obvious strain rate hardening and reasonably high ductility of the MMC. The developed unified material model includes evolution of dislocations resulting from plastic deformation, recovery and punching effect due to differential thermal expansion between matrix and reinforcement particles during non-steady state heating and plastic straining. Good agreement has been obtained between experimental and computed results. The proposed material model contributes greatly to a more thorough understanding of flow stress behaviour and microstructural evolution during the hot forming of MMCs.

Opis:
The benefit/cost (B/C) ratio method is utilized in many government and public work projects to determine if the expected benefits provide an acceptable return on the estimated investment and costs. Many authors have studied probabilistic cash flows in recent years. They introduced some analytical methods which determine the probability distribution function of the net present value and internal rate of return of a series of random discrete cash flows. They considered serially correlated cash flows and the uncertainty of future capital investment and reinvestment rates and they presented some formulae for the B/C ratio for probabilistic cash flows. In the paper, the expected value and the variance of a probabilistic cash flow are obtained by means of moments. Then a probabilistic B/C ratio is given. Fuzzy set theory has the capability of representing vague knowledge and allows mathematical operators and programming to be applied to the fuzzy domain. The theory is primarily concerned with quantifying the vagueness in human thoughts and perceptions. The fuzzy B/C ratios are developed for a single investment project and for multiple projects having equal or different lives.

Opis:
The experiment was laid out in a strip-split plot design consisting of 16 treatments with three replications, at NMRP, Rampur, Chitwan during the winter season (October, 2015 to March, 2016). Four different levels of planting geometry (60 cm×30 cm, 60 cm×24 cm, 60 cm×19.5 cm and 60 cm×16.5 cm, representing 55,555, 69,444, 85,470 and 1,01,010 plants ha-1, respectively), two hybrid varieties of maize (Rampur hybrid 4 and Rampur hybrid 6) and two tillage methods (conventional and zero tillage) were used as the treatments. Economic analysis revealed that significantly higher net benefit (NRs. 1,06,692 ha-1) was obtained with 85 rather than 55 thousand plants ha-1 (NRs. 79,249 ha-1), but remained at par with 69 (NRs. 92,656 ha-1) and 101 (NRs. 96,198 ha-1) thousand plants ha-1. Moreover, the B:C ratio was higher in 85 (2.57) than 55 (2.28), 69 (2.43) and 101 (2.35) thousand plants ha-1. The net returns and B:C ratio (NRs. 97,372 and 2.46) obtained from Rampur hybrid 6 were also higher, but statistically at par with Rampur hybrid 4 (NRs. 90,024 and 2.35), respectively. In addition, net returns and B:C ratio obtained from zero tillage (NRs. 1,03,473 and 2.6) were better than conventional tillage (NRs. 83,924 and 2.22). Thus, both hybrid maize varieties (Rampur hybrid 4 and Rampur hybrid 6) can be successfully grown under a zero tillage system with optimum plant population of 85 thousand plants ha-1 to achieve higher grain yield and better winter season net returns in western Chitwan, Rampur, Nepal.

Opis:
Thermodynamic description of the Fe-B-C system in its iron-rich corner is developed in the context of a new Fe-B-X (X = Cr, Ni, Mn, Si, Ti, V, C) database. The thermodynamic parameters of the binary sub-systems, Fe-B, Fe-C and B-C, are taken from earlier assessments modifying the B-C description. The parameters of the Fe-B-C system are optimized in this study using experimental thermodynamic and phase equilibrium data from the literature. Liquid, beta-rhombo-B and graphite phases are described using the substitutional solution model, while the ferrite (bcc), the austenite (fcc), the cementite (M3C) and the M23C6 phases are described with the sublattice model and the borides, Fe2B, FeB and B4C, are treated as stoichiometric phases. A good correlation was obtained between the calculated and the experimental thermodynamic and phase equilibrium data. The description is recommended to be used at the composition region of wt% C + wt% B < 15 and at temperatures below 2700°C.
